Saw this comment about the OG Pleasantview series on a post about their favorite sims let’s play from her.
I’ve watched the series a couple times and I don’t remember anything that I interpreted as misogynistic or patriarchal.
Does anyone have an idea on what the commenter may have been referring to here?
(Also, side note: I find it kinda funny that the commenter was like “oh well ¯_(ツ)_/¯” to this alleged sexism lmao)
iirc she has the babies born out of wedlock named like that to remember who's dad is who, since usually they're born to mostly romance sims who have several children by different sims. though idk why this would be more effective than just checking the family trees
always make women take their husbands last names in marriage and children born out of wedlock always got their dads last names
I think making the female sims take the husbands name in marriage is pretty normal and unproblematic since that’s how it usually is irl, I do the same though I do make exceptions.
I guess the kids born out of wedlock taking the dad’s last name is more subjective and controversial though, unless I think the couple will be together long term I have them take the mom’s last name.

She would make every male sim a "Founder" even if they were married in, they would automatically take over the family. I understand this for like a historic save but she would do this in her modern games so....
I'm also also now remembering another really weird thing she did, where in her OG Pleasantview series one of the Burb kids turned out to be gay and she created a weird storyline where John Burb is homophobic???? and didn't approve of having a gay son 😬😬 like why would you put homophobia in your sims stories....

Oh so that's where it came from. I see that headcanon a lot on Sims 2 sub.
Cindy set up a system where only straight male Sims could be the "heir" of a multi generational family and inherit anything from their parents. female Sims ceased to be part of their family of origin upon marriage, as did gay male Sims, and could receive nothing from their parents.
in a game where you can do anything, she chose to build sexism and homophobia into her world and make them key components. I found it really off putting when I used to watch her videos.
By the way, has she ever reach the moment when she had inheritance happen? I don't recall a gameplay of her make past 2 generations. Excluding gays from it is cruel and thanks for taking a note of that.

Some of the Sims Challenges have very bias rules. I was shocked at the Test of Time skin color rules and when I tried the challenge I didn't follow that rule. Legacy challenges have inheritance and naming rules.
Cindy has always played a very hetero vanilla game in Sims 2.

Cindy is very misogynistic. She has daddy issues the size of a planet, and for her, everything is about men and being acceptable to men.
RE: Daddy issues, her father is a horrible person by all accounts. Her issues are real and rooted in the fact that her father was a shit human. I acknowledge that. Unfortunately, while Cindy knows that her father was truly awful and she has a laundry list of problems because of him, she has never acknowledged that her need to have the care and attention of a DaddyBoyfriend in order to feel like a real person is in any way a problem that she should be working on in therapy.

She has spoken about him, yes. She hasn't told everything, of course. But she has said that he was an alcoholic (both her parents were) and that he would frequently say he was going to be home or come to get her at a certain time and then would just not show up at all, and that he left her in the care of people who hurt her. She has mentioned that her step-mother was abusive, and there may have been other adults who were abusive. She's also said that he didn't feed her sister and her properly, lots of gross canned meat, I seem to recall her mentioning.
Oh, and she believes he had BPD.
So, yeah, he was an overall shit human. I can sympathize with that, for sure.
The thing that frustrates me is that the key to healing is to get to the root of the issues, just like pulling weeds. If you just snip the tops, the weeds are still there and will be back being a problem in no time. You have to dig them out. She doesn't have a lot of inclination to get down to the root of her issues. She wants a quick fix with a DaddyBoyfriend and a speed run through some workbooks and then everything will be magically fixed. Ta da.

also, during the LS she made while driving through kansas, she said that she decided to be a carbotarian vegetarian to rebel against him when she was 12 yo after he hit a deer with his vehicle -- she described him as being a "typical, arkansas, redneck hunter" and said that she "refused to eat his dirty meat" -- so, here we have cynthia making an inappropriate, sexual joke about her father? to amuse the chat? to amuse the driver? 😶 idk who a statement like that is intended to amuse, tbh. i mean, other than herself, i suppose.

i know that you're empathetic about the issues she has with her father, but without getting too terribly graphic, there are thousands and thousands of people who do work through their trauma with kink relationships. i am definitely not saying that i believe that she is knowingly doing this or that he is anywhere near qualified to be that type of partner to her -- only that it isn't so uncommon and seeing him called that or her issues called "daddy issues" in a sarcastic way feels insensitive.

I'm not calling her issues that sarcastically. She really has profound and deep issues about her relationships with men, and also with women, though they're different issues (she doesn't like women, nor herself, and she craves the approval of men, and of her Favorite Person man, specifically).

like you, and hell, most of the folks here, i've really hoped that she'd start getting to the actual roots of her trauma. not even on camera or anything so macabre. just, like, to save her own life, or something.
we all know it requires years ( and years ) of intensive, often expensive, therapy, but also bravery and effort; a willingness to sit with the difficult truths and the pain that comes with them. i'm starting to think that this will never happen for her. every other word from her mouth when she is distressed is comfort, comfort, comfort. you couldn't be more right about the quick fixes and the speed runs.
i think it becomes even more difficult if abusive parents pass away before that type work has begun. it's just too easy to start to deify them, at that point, and cynthia just loves herself some easy. the whole thing is really starting to give hopeless.

I don't want to see her therapy on camera. I don't need to know about her pain, her past, her suffering. I have no doubt that she had a shitty childhood, and I have always had compassion for that. I had hoped, for her sake, that she would do the work and heal.

Interesting observation.
She did talk about her daddy abandonment issues in one vlog, but it was stated that this left her vulnerable to abuse by her stepmother rather than acknowledging her anger and hurt by his enabling of this. But of course if she’s even still attending proper therapy - as opposed to those workbooks (which while therapeutic cannot substitute for actual therapy) - she doesn’t seem to be addressing these daddy issues as part of the root of her problem. It’s fine to develop techniques for coping with BPD symptoms, but unless she also looks at the reasons she’ll not ever be able to force it into remission. BPD is like a chronic illness - therapy can relieve the symptoms quite a lot, but it will always be there underneath and can reemerge without constant vigilance and regular if less frequent therapy sessions.
People here said that her female Sims always had male Sim last name, same with children born out of wedlock, male Sims were the one who got inheritance. I also seen some comments criticizing her for only having one gay couple (which was few years ago too)
I forgot about the inheritance thing, I totally understand why that may offend some people.
I remember the criticism about how many gay sims she has, but I think that was overblown to be honest. She would literally randomize her sims gender preferences; the lack of gay couples was due to her ACR settings not because she’s homophobic lol.
Look I’m not a Cindy fan but it’s just the way she played the game, I believe in her Veronaville play through she had a matriarchy system where the husbands took the woman’s last name, but that’s part of the hood lore anyway.
I think she’s definitely a pick me and would 100% put a woman down if it meant male validation, but I don’t think her Pleasantview play through was inherently misogynistic. I think she just enjoyed the traditional gender roles where the woman took the man’s last name. I believe children born out of wedlock would take dad’s name (which to me seems odd because if I never knew my dad and my mum raised me I’d take her name), but the dads would also pay child support, so nothing unlike real life I guess.
I agree that the last name stuff isn’t that serious, but I think her inheritance system as mentioned by other commenters is pretty……😬
I agree, but back in the very old days of the Sims 2 there were all sorts of legacy challenges where only male/female sims could inherit, it’s all very early-mid 2000s, some quite problematic challenges. It’s funny how she was absolutely disgusted with the Asylum Challenge (putting your Sims in a mental health facility) but was fine with that. It’s all very bizarre, but I guess it’s just how she grew up playing the game.
I did play the game when I was about 7 and even I still made gay, women-focussed families.

I don’t think this is a symptom of her other pick-me-Patricia habits, just a sign that everything old becomes new again. She was playing this way 10 years after TS2 stopped getting updates and no one else was really creating content on it anymore so it seems like a Cindy thing if you’re not super familiar with the weirder parts of the online old school sims community.

I think it really was just a case of one person put it into their rules and a bunch of people followed suit!
When I started playing legacy challenges I got my rules from… it may have been CarlsSims3Guide? I don’t remember. But either way they listed the matriarchy/patriarchy as an optional thing that awarded no extra points! The main difference it made was that if you didn’t birth an heir of the correct gender for the challenge your legacy ended. But I never saw anything about inheritance besides obviously the person getting the house etc was the heir, and the spares kind of just got fed into the void.
If I remember well from people doing these challenges you’d typically give nothing to the spares because they were excluded from the challenge rules once they moved out. So you could really just settle them however you wanted.
There was a general thread of just traditional firstborn legacy (first child always inherits), but you had your share of zany and even historical legacies that would play fast and loose or lean into stuff like gender presentation and poly relationships if the person’s playstyle found it fun.
I wouldn’t truly be surprised, she’s got a misogynistic thing going on in her personal life as it is; like for example lol; attacking a pregnant woman as if it was 100% her fault that Andrew cheated. And, her entire personality is dependent on what the funstick she has thinks of her. I actually grew up in Arkansas and these views are very much alive down there.

And as far as I know absolutely nothing cindy has done in the game comes remotely close to your example of “role playing racism”, she just has babies take the last name of the man & follows some old rules for generational gameplay. Not everyone has to play the game the same way
