LPT - Turn your water supply off when you leave the house
Home & GardenIt's pretty impractical to do this every time you leave the house, but for a trip then hell yes. I also hit the breaker on the water heater and furnace.
Why on the last two?
Gotta remind those things who’s the boss
Water heater could still go as it's old, rather have cold water all over the basement instead of boiling hot then exposed elements.
Furnace because I don't want to mess with my thermostat settings, I have times and days of the week set. There may be a way to turn it all off from the console, haven't looked.
If you're really that worried, they make electronic/automatic water shutoff valves that connect to leak sensors. Leak detected? Shut off the water main for you.
I have an old facet I don't really like messing with it .... Last time it leaked and I freaked out 😅
Replace it...
It doesn't take a few days. A couple hours is more than enough to completely destroy everything you own.
Found that out the hard way.

If you do this and have a recirculating pump, turn that off too. If you don’t, it will burn out when it runs dry and be an expensive fix (alas, firsthand knowledge here)
Sounds like you should keep yours turned off AT ALL TIMES...
