This was an Early 2010’s Silverado with Duramax diesel engine and holly fucking shit, I have never seen a million mile car in my shop and first time seeing it in person. Don’t know further details how this customer got his truck to a million mile but despite having electrical issues, engine and transmission runs fine and frame is not badly rusted. Unfortunately, odometer maxed out at 999,999 miles and to get accurate odometer, speciality OBD is required to retrieve it.
Hotshot?
Ranch truck
Edit: also spending its entire life in montana cruising at 80 and never dealing with high temps
How's the dust though? Does it not dry out and clog the drivetrain?
We keep our air filters clean and do full checkups on our trucks every winter for rubber, suspension, differentials, engine internals, etc. (can't do much else in 4 feet of snow). So, any problems that the dust would cause are usually caught before they become problems
It brings a tear to my eyes, I want a million miler so bad. Yes I am a cheap bastard.
I’d be so much more excited to show off my million mile car than a brand new one.
I have a 200,000 mile Audi and whenever anyone mentions it I just have to slip in that "it's not bad at all for 200,000 miles"
I can't wait for that number to be much higher and I have no idea why I enjoy that
My parents have an Audi over 120k miles, converted to Toyota miles that's like 350k miles (ie an Audi at 120k is like owning a Toyota at 360k).
That thing is a POS, it has had so many issues (carbon buildup, cracked pvc coolant pipe under turbo, oil consumption since new) and they owned it new. I can't imagine owning one with 200k miles, that's insane.
Mines has nearly 300.000 miles with stock clutch and it’s in perfect condition
Yep, I got to 315k miles on a Audi A6 with original turbo and clutch. Was an awesome car.
Mines got the 1.9TDI so it will last many more years
What Audi is it and what year?
My 200k A6 is better build quality than pretty much anything I've worked on in my life( although some things are over engineered) but I've also worked on other VAG products that were much lower quality. They make so many different models, on different platforms that come off different production lines and are designed by different people that you can't just use blanket terms on VAGs entire range
Must be an a4
Lol it doesn’t matter. They can have a ton of issues at low miles, other Audis make it well past 200k no problem.
not equal to that at all, having a few maintenance items to completed doesnt make a car shit especially at 120
Maybe my expectations were too high, both the vehicles I had to compare it to were made during the early 2000s where design targets for smog and performance didn't require complexity to meet.
The reason I consider the 2016 Q5 a POS is that the issues it had either aren't maintenance items according to Audi or the items broke way sooner than with other vehicles.
Walnut blasting isn't a maintenance item according to Audi, if it was I'd pass it. Even as other brands move to dual injection or acknowledge the issue, Audi still blames carbon buildup on fuel quality. They haven't revised the engine.
The parts that broke, did it sooner than on any other vehicle I have seen. I know cheap plastic isn't something Audi is alone with, many brands do this, and that doesn't make it acceptable.
Audi also removed the dip stick, and since it burns oil this is really annoying. Also the hood latch makes the oil light go on when it shouldn't, so their substitute for a dipstick is something that is super unreliable.
My wrangler just rolled 298,000. You already know I’m watching every mile go by waiting for that 300
I prayed, make it to 300, maki it to 300. Well, at 300,056 I completely blew out on of the cylinders and had a golf ball sized hole in the side of my block. I was so focused on 300,000 I forgot that 400,000 would be nice, too.
194k on my '99 A4. God help me
I am very proud to tell people my 05 cts-v has almost 300k on it when they are checking it out lol.
Because Audi has a bad track record. My father had some Audis and their transmissions would fail sub 50k miles. Maybe having one with decently high miles feels like an accomplishment.
Some Audi's have a bad track record, the A6 C6 (what I have) is one of their best cars and most of the engines they came with are relatively bullet proof as long as they are maintained correctly, so mine doesn't feel like a flex in that sense
I have an '04 Envoy XL with 271k and some change. Only issue so far was a water pump. I'm praying hard for 500k
Two of my 5 vehicles have over 200k, another has 190k the next one has 170k and the lowest I have is at 140k. Right now one is running while I wait for parts on one of the 200k and I am restoring the one that has 140k because it was my first car bought new by my mom. The other 2 are in the queue to be fixed.
Same here. I like to casually drop "yeah, my car has a good bit over a quarter million miles."
I had a Ford ranger with 340k, i loved the look on people’s faces when I told them. The bed was held together with offcuts of trex deck boards, but the frame was solid.
At an average 40mph, that's 25,000 hours behind the wheel. Would you REALLY like a million mile car?
You're reading too much into this man
Lol, I meant I want to only ever do oil changes because it's hit the 1 year mark if that makes sense. I'm cheap too.
you"ll never get there that way.
I had a 1990 buick Century.
Daily driver. Beat the shit out of it every day driving 60 miles one way about an hour everyday.
Buy lifetime parts from like auto zone, advanced auto, napa etc. SAVE THE RECIPTS!
many sets of rotors, 5 radiators 6 alternators, window motors.
I sold it with 475 K on it.
Still regret it .
My first car was a 96 Buick Regal (with plush red interior purrs) which I always felt would have been high-miler had I not totaled it within a month of passing my driver's test lol.
I got a 96 Volvo after that which I didn't crash but ended up being the biggest hunk of shit I've ever driven.
Let's do some math:
1,280,000 miles
14 years old
91,500 miles per year
With 50 working weeks, that is 1,830 miles per week
If it is driven five days a week, that is 366 miles per day
If you are at 60 MPH, that is just over six hours a day
So I would guess this is a courier vehicle doing a certain highway route over and over again.
One more thing:
Let's guess an average of 18 MPG
71,111 gallons of gas
National average of $2.80 per gallon of gas over the past 14 years
$199,111 spent on gas
Edit: I have adjusted gas prices to the actual national average based on this: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=emm_epmr_pte_nus_dpg&f=a
OP says it's a Duramax, so it could be well over 20mpg if it wasn't towing anything. Still going to be well over $150k in fuel.
Diesel is more expensive, and I have never got that much MPG out of a Duramax (when you do the math by hand like you should the reality is about 18). But for the sake of argument let's say they got 20 MPG:
Unlikely 20 MPG
64,000 gallons of diesel
National average of $3.40 per gallon of diesel over the past 14 years
$217,600 spent on diesel
Edit: I have adjusted the diesel price to the actual national average based on this: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=emd_epd2d_pte_nus_dpg&f=a
Weird. My 07 gets 21-22mpg at 60mph with 35s.
I would bet yours indicates 21-22 mpg, but you are getting less. Tires, odo, injector size, fuel system changes, temperature, and a bunch of other factors can affect those GPM read outs. First make sure your speedo and odo are accurate (GPS can verify, tire changes with out out software changes can affect this). If those are accurate and you know how far you are really driving, reset the trip at the start of your tank and divide the miles by the gallons you actually put in to refill the tank.
It has been my experience the dash exaggerates MPG. We call them lie-o-meters, they are there to make you feel good about your purchase and show your wife the diesel is saving you money (it isn't).
If it is any consolation, in my opinion the Duramax lies the least at about 2-3.5 MPG more than you are actually getting. The Cummins lies the most at about 3-5 MPG more than you are actually getting.
I've never kept a Ford running long enough to get real numbers (I'm not exaggerating, I've only owned one Ford and it was a 6.0, only kept it a few months due to non stop problems). But the Ford readout also seemed optimistic, I just didn't do enough miles to really figure it out.
I hand calculate every tank. On board computer runs about 1 mpg better than real life. Bone stock besides cat back exhaust, intake and a very mild economy tune. Speedo is corrected via the tuner and matches GPS. Past 70 mph the economy definitely drops off but at 60 the mileage is impressive imo.
20 MPG is still very impressive for 60. I tend to average 60 MPH, but that means most of my highway is 75 to 80. My figures above are based on those experiences.
Wouldn’t bigger tires make you indicated fuel economy better since you’re going further than the odometer thinks.
Painted on the side of the bed cover that it has over 1,280,000 miles - that’s wild.
It has to have been shared by multiple people and driven 7 days a week. That's 270 miles a day, every day, for 13 years. Add in any down time for maintenance, vacations, weekends, and you're pushing 500 miles a day. Hell, weekends alone puts it up to 380 miles a day. That's a full time job for one person ignoring commercial driving rest time standards.
Delivery truck / hot shot could hit those miles. Easy to do like 500 miles in a day.
Yeah I remember on a reality show on car dealerships many years ago someone had a Dodge dually after a few years with over 650k doing that up in Alaska.
Yea, lots of commercial driving. I saw a post with someone that had nearly 500k on a car under 5 years old doing truck escort work. There are plenty jobs that will get you to those numbers if your job is driving on the highway.
Imagine getting an oil change every 2 -3 weeks.
The owner's daylight savings routine goes like: change the clocks, new batteries in the smoke detectors, and off to the tire shop.
That 2010 may have been sold July 2009 maybe September- and 300 miles a day ain’t nothing(5 hours) more likely it did time as a specialty delivery vehicle a logged 600-800 a day 6 per week
Million miler’s are pretty common in the trucking world, my dad regularly drives trucks with 2m + on em, they’re basically one out another in
Seems really unlikely
Volvo and Toyota territory
Older GM trucks are known to run forever, especially the 4th gen C/K1500s (88-02). There are multiple million mile trucks that rolled over a decade plus ago.
I personally had a 94 K1500 Slverado extended cab 4x4 auto that was all original with 370k miles on it when I sold her in 2008. A relative still has it, still original drivetrain but im not sure on its miles these days.
Then my 95 C1500 5.7L is still just a pup with 172k on the odometer, god damn
Shes barely broken in. The 350 in most those trucks are bulletproof. They just refuse to die.
My 92 K1500 is just broken in at 205k miles.
I miss my 91 K1500. I killed the trans pulling a Lincoln LS through some mountains at almost 400k. I wish I still had it and had just gotten the trans rebuild and the A/C fixed.
That was always the big issue I saw with the GMT400 platform. The Trans would have issues first. Only other issue was the ignition module died more than once on me
Had two work Suburbans at an old job. I was the one that blew out 3rd gear in both of them. So to get it back to the office I'd have to red line it in 2nd, in order for it to shift over 3rd and into 4th.
My old bar band had a 94 K1500 suburban that towed our 4500 pound trailer everywhere. Trans went and the ignition modules would die, and the drivers side barn door would jam and you'd need a screwdriver to pop it open. Past that, they were tanks.
looks like the clear coat is gone anyway
I gave up after my 4th lifter at 100,000 miles
5.3?
So happy I got the 4.8. I just wish it came with more than the 4L60
Running the AC compressor makes a big difference in pedal lag!
That's why I'll swap my 4l60e to the 6 speed when it dies.
I was looking for this comment!
If it’s the original engine and transmission and has not been rebuilt Chevy will give you a new vehicle so they can take it apart and see how it looks. Probably because they don’t want future versions to hit that mark lol.
Chevy will give you a new vehicle
[citation needed]
Yeah this def isn't true lol my relative's Impala hit 1 million miles and the local dealerships as well as corporate didn't give a shit. They sent a letter that basically said "lol nice" 😂
They are secretly pissed off that it wasn’t totalled within the first 100k miles like most of the rest of them so they’d have to buy a new car.
Sadly this 1M miler will outlast any new chevy- 1 would not be surprised if it makes 1.5
Lol it is at 1.280m already
This isn't true. They have already figured out how to make their new vehicles not last this long.
Toyota did that with tundra.
This only works if it’s a Dodge, then they’ll record a commercial and give you a new Viper. Just be careful you don’t fall asleep in the car and allow it to roll over 999,999 before the cameras record it.
No, Peg.
You could always try selling it to a Japanese business man who collects old American JUNK.
That wouldn’t make for a funny episode of Married with Children though
What do you mean? He's a connoisseur of the Jiggly Room because of the Jiggly.
lol took me a second.
Imagine the attempts at fraud.
I have over 1.3 million miles on mine. When I contacted them all I could get was them wanting me to come in so they could get pics of it for there advertising. And they would throw me some free service in there. I told them to go fuck there self. The only reason it lasted this long is i am the only person to ever work on this truck that didn’t fuck it up.
You're mad they didn't give you free shit for you using your car? You sound like a dick lol
I scrolled down their profile to see if they are a dick. It was a quick ten seconds lol
No they want to use it for advertising and they want to do is give me an oil change. They can go fuck there self. I have to take time out of my day to go up there and that is all I get. I don’t need it
Tell them you'll accept a filter kit and 10L of full synthetic to do it yourself instead, then.
I think you were looking for “their” self but a better way to write it would be their selves since it’s plural. Even that is not really right, though. Better version would be “I told them to go fuck themselves” as one word. Or, if you’re in a hurry, “I told them to get fucked” or “I told them to fuck off” might eliminate the confusion.
Themselves is best (most commonly used). Think, his-self vs himself. Him/them is an object pronoun, not a possessive. But some people start to think of "self" as the object of the verb fuck so you hear his-self, their selves, etc and it's all fine as long as it's not causing confusion
Omitting "herself" from the discussion because herself vs her self sounds the same.
Where self?
Volvo, Ford, Renault, every other company.... Stop spewing garbage.
Assuming 12ish mpg, with gas at $3/gal, nearly $250k in fuel has been put through that bad boy
OP says it's a Duramax,
Gas hasn't been $3 since well before this truck was made lol.
87 is sitting at about $2.99 in coastal MS at the moment. Probably best case scenario price wise given the location but it’s out there.
We had $2.75 in petal, Ms a few days ago
2021 in Central ohio we had gas sub $2
In the flyover states it often is
No shit?! What’s a specialty odo reading entail? GM service center?
What is the original color supposed to be?
I'd guess its silver and then paintds flat back and the edges sanded or weathered, to bei g the silver back out. Sorts like model makers.
It’s even funnier because it looks like a truck you’d see for sale and say “yeah got about a million miles on it”
I bet value will be very low due to million mileage of the truck.
The wild thing is if they go to sell it, they’ll have to check the “Odometer does not reflect true mileage” checkbox on the odometer disclosure form.
For totally legit reasons.
Wonder how the internal bits look
I wanna know what the interior looks like, or is that what you mean and I’m thinking ur asking about engine internals? Either way, I want to see both tbh.
Return on investment right ‘ter..
Is chevy going to buy him a new truck like Toyota does?
Don’t know but customer would be so happy if that ever happened. Very rare for manufactures to offer customer a free vehicle for having a million miles in their current car.
My little ranger has 262000 miles but sadly I think she's almost done.
I’ll take it if you’re going to throw it out :p
Please provide them with correct flag for RH side
I’ve seen this truck somewhere. He delivers those 5 hour energy drinks to gas stations or something similar.
I was just thinking I had seen it too at a gas station in the St. Louis area.
Given the mileage, it should be every gas station in the country.
I love the Christmas vibe that the dashboard gives off when ever it's driven.
I drive by this guy's house all the time. It's been fun to watch the painted numbers on the back window steadily increase over time. Cool to see this truck pop up on my homepage!
2009 Toyota Camry with 700,000 miles! B
Too bad the flag is facing the wrong way
At least Ford got that right when they added that easter egg to the dashboard on the new F-Series. But then there were a bunch of paste-eaters going "Stupid Ford put the flag on backwards LOL"
Whether the flag is on your right shoulder or the right side of a vehicle, the stars are always oriented towards the front.
That's not a million miles, it's showing 999,999 !!/s
What does the interior look like?
I seen that truck on i55 hauling construction equipment thought I was still sleeping.
A guy from Texas last year crossed a million miles on a 2003 Accord on the original engine (second transmission). That thing was a science experiment in the lifespan of individual parts (for instance, the clutch pedal assembly wore out around 900k - not the clutch, mind you, but the pedal assembly itself).
I see that as a given if you look after it properly
That rear axle doesn't have 1 millions miles on it. Prolly changed out 20+ times.😂
I still got 675k to go
Real mileage unknown. Nice :)
I shouldve taken a pic of the stock 6.0 that had 800k…
I don’t think it’s that rare for a diesel truck engine not to make it to 1,000,000 miles. Usually diesel engines are over built. I can’t comment on Duramax engines, but I have seen plenty of Cummins engines with over 1,000,000 miles. If you take care of them, they will last. I can’t say for sure if any of the newer diesels will make it that far though the complications with the def system and catalyst, not sure if the service is just as long but the old-school diesel definitely.
It would be a million mile and it’s not there just yet.
My lbz is running around 730k (620k towing). Hoping i can get to 7 figures on the original engine and transmission
