While Michael Giacchino returning to do the score makes sense, or even John Williams (love his work, but seriously, let him retire guys) I would want a new person's take on a Jurassic Park score. My biggest pick is Alexandre Desplat, mainly due to his work with Godzilla (2014), which captured the tone and aesthetic of that movie perfectly. I wouldn't be too excited if Hans Zimmer did it, as his latest work is kind of generic sounding and lacks the melodic punch of his earlier work, like Backdraft (The Lost World trailer music), Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lion King. If he did do a throwback score, that would be fantastic. I just hope it's something that's as re-listenable as the first two scores, or even JPOG. What are your picks?
James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, John Powell. Hell, could even bring back Don Davis. Which would never happen but still.
Powell would go so hard.
Silvestri or James Newton Howard are my picks.
Powell writes great stuff but his style does match John Williams enough in my opinion. Unless he actually tries to emulate John Williams like he did for a few moments in Solo
Bit of a wildcard, but I'd love to hear what Nicholas Britell (Succession, Andor) would come up with. Otherwise, Desplat seems like a sensible choice.
Leo Birenberg did a fantastic job with Chaos Theory. Let’s see what he can do stepping up.
Dream choice: James Horner (RIP)
Practical choices: James Newton Howard - he has a wide range of style and has shown effortless weaving between horror and beauty (especially with his Shyamalan film work and Jackson’s King Kong) Howard Shore - his work on Lord of the Rings trilogy transports you to another world from ethereal to epic sounds.
Bring Don Davis back. I thought he did great with JP3.
As the years go by, I look back on his score more and more fondly.
I'm surely in the minority, but I honestly prefer it over the JW scores.
Ludwig Göransson
I came here to mention him as well.
Its got to be someone who can tell stories , not just make soundscapes. John Williams crafted intricate songs where as a lot of composers just craft general vibes and moods.
I’m up for Michael Giacchino returning again, he did some great work with the soundtrack for the JW trilogy.
He does fantastic work on pretty much everything. He did the incredible theme, he did UP, he did rogue one, a ton of MCU movies. He's great
My picks are Alexandre Desplat, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Ramin Djawadi, John Powell, or Hildur Guðnadottir.
Hildur did Joker right?
Yes she did the score for Joker indeed and Chernobyl.
Oh my God she did Chernobyl too? Fantastic scores for both
I second Ramon Djawadi.
I’d be really interested to see Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ take on the score. They’ve showed some significant range. If they can pull off the jazz for Mank they can probably pull off the dramatic dinosaur stuff.
James Newton Howard or Alan Silvestri
Daniel Pemberton
Ramin Djwadi
if possible have john williams come out of retirement to do a collab with michael giacchino
Michael Giacchino, since he’s my favourite composer, but would be also very happy if someone less known gets a shot. Michael Williams would be fantastic too, obviously
Nathan furst
Serious wildcard: Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy).
Giacchino has delivered great scores, I'm completely fine with him returning.
I personally like his music a lot, especially the multiple variations of the Jurassic World theme. Absolute banger, John Williams is obviously a legend too.
Hans Zimmer or Giacchino
Ramin Djawadi. I would love a fresh take and the man knows how to rework a theme as well as create compelling original work that really captures a vibe. And he has already done Crichton-based work (Westworld).
How about Harry Gregson-Williams or Klaus Badelt?
James Newton Howard, John Powell or Alexandre Desplate, in that order.
I hope Giacchino never touches a Jurassic film again. Thought his stuff was dreadful, but then the JW films were dreadful anyway. He’s much more suited to animated films and I laughed so hard when he was being touted as the next John Williams, simply because he’d been given Star Wars and Jurassic films to score.
Anyway, in an ideal world John Williams would be my top pick of course, but being realistic, any of the three mentioned above I think would do a great job, as it seems many others on here feel too.
I would still want John Williams to come back. I know that's very far from being a possibility.
I seriously don't want either Giacchino or Zimmer to do the score. I think Giacchino had his run in the JW Trilogy (Though I am not that fan of his work. I'd listen to Don Davis than him) and so its time to move on from him.
And as much as I love Zimmer, I don't think his score is suitable for a Jurassic movie. If I can imagine, for me it will be like putting an ice cream in a chicken curry.
My pick would be Alexandre Desplat or David Arnold
