The freaks that love these protests are going to continue to be those freaks. What OP meant by dying down is that the general public won’t have as much as an opinion on the conflict once the next “Normie Event” happens. Then it’ll fade.
Exactly, thank you
Why are people in this sub so determined to dismiss what is being protested?
Depends on what is being protested and how. I opposed the war but saw antisemitic signs mixed in with antiwar signs at many protests, and I totally disagree with wanting to end the state of Israel. It’s unjust and also ridiculous as it’s not going to happen.
Have you been to any? Or even seen how it is almost always turns up to be?
“Almost always” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
Why is that? Were the vast majority of protests peaceful and not antisemitic or anti anything unrelated?
Um, actually, yes. Very little of the violence up to this point has been sparked by the protesters themselves. It almost invariably starts with the police, or comes from the counter-protesters — whom the police have a track record of just allowing to do what they like.
The expressly anti-Jewish rhetoric and lionization of the Hamas massacre has been monstrous, but it has not characterized most of the protest activity.
More importantly, even if it did, it wouldn’t change Israel’s actions. Which to put it mildly are stunning.
It is ironic that you say that we blame everyone else, but you are doing it yourself. And what actions?
I think you’re in the wrong sub. The pro-Palestine sub is more to the LEFT, and then down a volcano.
What does “pro-Palestine” mean to you?
When I say freaks I’m talking about the people that just like to protest. I live in DC and are friends with a few of them
Yeah. There was someone with a “Jews for Palestine” patch on their jacket near me last year, like 2022-2023. For what it’s worth, they were actually Jewish.
The
New Orleans is going to have major problems due to climate change. Cleveland and St. Louis have good-sized Jewish populations and are quite affordable. Nashville and Atlanta have good music scenes, but are mostly sprawl.
Completely agree. I like Atlanta
Clevelander here. Feeling pretty a’okay about where I am at.
Thanks for encouraging people to consider making a home in New Orleans. The Jewish community here is great, though it is tough to make a life here. OP - don’t move here without a job. Please read the multiple threads in r/asknola and r/NewOrleans about moving here.
Edit - Nola has its problems as well as this happened just a few days ago. https://www.wdsu.com/article/new-orleans-city-council-issued-a-statement-after-staff-members-house-was-vandalized-community/60830270
My cousin has lived there since the 90s, she told me her boyfriend used to be on a recreational baseball team called the Kosher Cajuns
Jewlane Grad can confirm.
New Orleans is a great place to be a Jew (even if Hurricane Katrina did make a fucking mess of my senior year).
How do black folks there treat Jews?
The antisemitism among the youth has been on a steady upward trajectory for almost thirty years. It’s not gonna get better. It will at best slow.
once the next oppression Olympics starts
Jesus christ man seriously. Rhetoric like yours is poison.
Even if you think Palestinians deserve death, even if that's your political viewpoint, you could at least be less flippant about it and use language which gives it the gravity it deserves.
Even if you think Palestinians deserve death
This person didn’t say that. You’re conflating contempt for #FreePalestine with contempt for actual Palestinians. Palestinians are not a monolith, and neither are their views on a pro-Hamas movement.
You’re either 14yo or being willfully ignorant if you can’t see how the current movement is just trendy activism. Heard about the oppression in Hong Kong recently? Or the war in Ukraine? Trends fade.
Trendy activism is certainly some way to put it. It’s not though. Either you’re 14yo or being willfully ignorant of the long history of conflict AND protests around the world in favour of Palestinian people. It’s been an identified, and vocalized thing for a LONG time. It’s not a trend, it is TRENDING right now because we’re watching war crimes go down on an almost daily basis. It is ridiculous of you to say the things you said and try to call someone else ignorant. It’s you.
Do people who worry about Gazans think “Israelis deserve death”? Perhaps a small number do, but that’s a crappy assumption to make about a stranger.
They used flippant language to discuss the impact of the war as nothing more than 'oppression Olympics' - there's a clear implications there that people who oppose the war are getting pissy about nothing.
I wasn't saying that because they're worried about Israel - I said it because they made it crystal clear about what they think about the reasons people oppose wars. You're the one making insane leaps here and inserting new words into my mouth.
Not necessarily. It doesn’t mean people are getting pissy about nothing. It means, to my reading, that lots of people are getting engaged on this topic with very little information and going with the flow because they are moved by the videos of the suffering they see in Gaza on TikTok. Since they don’t know much about the topic and people have the attention span of mayflies, it’s not going to take much for some new issue to erupt and dominate their attention like a police shooting, a celebrity being openly racist or sexist (Harrison Butker?), migrants being mistreated, homeless being mistreated, pregnant women with non-viable pregnancies experiencing hellish lack of treatment in a red state. Especially if Trump is elected which is less than 6 months away as a possibility.
There is no shortage of worthy causes and the poster is being cynical about which ones rise to the top, why, and for how long.
Thank you for your comment
Please remember that this is mostly a space for Jews to talk to each other, from Jewish perspectives, and we don't need to sugarcoat these concepts for each other.
I'm talking from a Jewish perspective, what I do not possess is an Israeli perspective. I feel zero connection to that country, the same way I feel zero connection to the proposed 'Kurdistan' despite my Kurdish-Turk heritage.
There is a whole ass universe between making light of casualties and 'not sugarcoated'. If you think assholery is permissible when nobody is looking, well then there's no real need to complete this sentence is there?
Hey asshole, from a Jewish perspective we don’t feel like 1) getting killed or 2) being harassed because of our culture or 3) seeing calls for our genocide being normalized. As for the Palestinians they made their choices they can deal with the consequences
As for the Palestinians they made their choices they can deal with the consequences
And thereeeeee it is. There it is. You want to know why people think we're murderous genocidal psychopaths? It's you. You're the reason.
Find someone else to troll.
I love living in Rochester, NY. Great Jewish community (Brighton) and great place to raise a family. Lots of Israelis. Park ave neighborhood is vibrant with restaurants, bars, live music. Cost of living is super reasonable compared to NYC. Winters aren’t great but manageable, summers are incredible and easy access to the finger lakes.
my sister & her family have lived in rochester for decades & can confirm all of this. buffalo, too.
I’m hoping to end up in or near Rochester or Buffalo when I get my JD.
St. Louis. Heck, we even have our own eruv.
So does Chicago.
Miami metro area.
I grew up here and one of the pros of not being in an “academic hub” is that people give less fucks about Israel/Palestine. There are also a shit ton of Jews here. There is hardly any activism of any sorts here (for better or for worse)
What sucks about being here is the cost of living though and not the best salaries
The techno/house music scene here is elite however our rock and jazz scene is not what I wished it were to be :(
Wynwood / midtown there’s couple jazz spots around!
Where like Gramps? I’ve been meaning to go there more. Lots of life music events there!
Lagniappe has live music everyday at 9 PM, sometimes it’s jazz sometimes it’s not. There’s a restaurant called JASS in design district that has live music almost every evening sometimes jazz music just call ahead! Also The Listening Room, & now there’s this thing that Olympia Arts Miami is doing called ‘Street Stages’ where they have street music every Thursday and Saturday night in downtown right near Julia and Henry’s. You can sign up for their newsletter or see the schedule online.
NYC is tense but it's also by far the largest and most lively Jewish community doing creative things and It's really the only place where we aren't necessarily outnumbered. The lived reality in the city is quite different from the internet. As far as music goes I haven't found it too radicalized but I don't want to talk about my life too much here so feel free to DM
I'm about to move out of North Carolina, the music scene isn't super great and my kid was beat up by someone who has been calling them a kyke and heil hitlering them all year, no Jewish food or culture at all, do not recommend.
Yikes, where in NC is this?
I'm in Greensboro, about 45 minutes from the research triangle. Last I checked there is only one kosher resturaunt in all of NC, in Charlotte.
To be fair, Greensboro just sucks all around. Raleigh/Cary isn't bad at all, and has a decent Jewish community. Kosher restaurants are definitely not a thing here though.
Philly. We don’t play that shit.
Amen. The Philly Jewish community is crazy tight.
According to my Spotify wrap up, it's also the city that aligns most with my music tastes. (Metalcore.)
How're the spotted lantern fly invasions going?
We beat them to death just like that robot
The What.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HitchBOT
Keep that fucking Canadian collection of trash out of my city
Hahaha oh my god.
Fun to put a word to it.
I go on sprees armed with a "bug a-salt" gun to stun them at range and an empty 2 liter bottle to finish the job up close.
Also yeah significantly low anti-semitism if the stories going around are anything to compare to. Plus we're heavy on security and have several groups who provide training for concealed carry and home defense. We even have a PI guy who runs faces of sketchy people who may come around.
I had a small (relatively) swarm by me this fall. I think I got 'em all, and two egg cases. We'll see...
Excellent news, I'm really glad to hear it! Hope it continues to be low.
Surprisingly not that many I have noticed.
Just don’t move to West Philly. You can’t go a block without seeing one-sided BS.
South Florida is calling
There are parts of South Florida that are Israel down to the people, the Bauhaus style apartments, and the sweaty weather. Notably Bay Harbor (literal miniature Tel Aviv), Hollywood, and Aventura. Obviously I prefer the real thing, but it's good to know such "Little Israels" exist.
Yea i think this is correct. I'm from the Baltimore/DC metro and its definitely not as bad as the rest of the country but i was just in south Florida and it's very jewish and very pro israel. Plus its probably a more creative scene if thats what you want.
Just moved to South Florida and can confirm.
I think of Baltimore county as a very Jewish area.
Visited Miami for a festival in February. Didn't hear a peep of anti-semitism or "anti-Zionism." My face blended in among all of the diversity. Really felt like a safe place in regard to being Jewish.
Too bad about the rest of it
When I went to Miami in January I saw multiple pro-Israel signs and an Israel flag over one of those big “welcome to this city” archs/ displays. Definitely a safe place for Jews
Came here to make same comment
Not if you pay attention to climate change.
What's the issue with climate change in South Florida?
The sea level is rising and Florida is flat. Hurricanes are getting stronger and more frequent. Miami is going to go underwater.
How's Tampa?
And a pro-Israel governor
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis arranged to fly about 700 Americans out of Israel in October. The flights were free for passengers. The federal government evacuated about 1,500 Americans but charged them, per federal law.
“He’s a friend of Israel,” Netanyahu said in an interview shortly after the meeting. “We talked about Iran. We talked about Israel-U.S. relations.”
A broken clock is correct twice a day.
Other than being pro Israel, desantis is insane
Jews will get Jews killed when we fail to acknowledge who our friends are, vs who works to hurt us
The man ran ad campaigns with explicit neo Nazi symbols, was Adolf Hitler a friend of the Jews because he permitted the Haavara Agreement?
What does this refer to? I haven't heard of this
Narrator: he did not
Narrator: He absolutely did
Here's your "Friend", a man who'd march you to a death camp with a smile on his face.
I just your link. You have DeSantis derangement syndrome.
Not an ad campaign- it was a retweet Not DeSantis - it was some random staffer
Oh no a Jew is cautious about a far right weirdo who wants to dismantle democracy and behaves like Nazis and Italian fascists.
Why was Desantis employing Nazis? Why was he attracting Nazis? Why did the Nazis believe they could be Nazis in his name? Why was a Nazi only fired after major public backlash? Why hasn't Desantis divested from other neo Nazi groups that work with him?
I can't reiterate how supporting Israel isn't an automatic tick that someone isn't anti semitic, the Balfour declaration was written by a guy who just wanted Jews out of his country and even wanted to put Jewish refugees in concentration camps, several high ranking Nazi officials supported Israel, you're a dangerous and frankly suicidal lunatic if you think the far right support Jews.
Ok. Ok. We are both Jews, and both want to see Israel as a thriving homeland for Jews.
I don’t agree with everything DeSantis says, but I do think he is an ally of Jews, based on his statements and policies.
Can you say the same for your progressive and communist friends? It is the progressives driving the campus protests. It is the progressives calling Jews colonizers and telling Jews to go back to Poland. It is progressives ignoring Israel’s record of rights for LGBTQ and bizarrely siding with those that works kill them.
I acknowledge your concerns. But I base my assessment on whether someone is an ally based on their actions.
Yeah I looked this up and the only thing I could find was the campaign firing a staffer who posted a meme with a Nazi symbol in it
Think on why a neo Nazi was working for him, releasing explicitly pro Nazi adverts, and was only fired due to mass public backlash when he was caught.
I'm sorry are you trying to suggest that Ron "I love Israel" Desantis is an actual Nazi? This is just silly
It is a well recorded and discussed phenomenon of Nazis loving the idea of Israel. Putting all of the Jews in a far off country in the middle of the desert, far, far away from them and their country is fun fact, very popular among people who want Jewish people to not exist in their country.
Several high ranking Nazi officials who signed off on the holocaust were openly Zionist, viewing it as an alternative to the holocaust if there weren't enough support.
What you're arguing here is that the Nazis were pro Jewish because some supported Israel, an absolutely vile thing to suggest.
I'm absolutely not arguing that or anything like it, don't be absurd.
But are you actually, in reality, in good faith saying that you think Ron Desantis is an actual jew-hating Nazi?
I am in Atlanta. Good size Jewish community, eclectic, purplish politically
Have you considered staying?
ATLANTA GA
Obligatory NAJ (just here for the memes, don’t judge me)
Cleveland Ohio has a huge Jewish community with many Israeli immigrants, music scene is good, the local economy is doing great. the sport teams are shit but most people are ambivalent towards politics.
How is Cleveland this far down when it has some of the most concentrated Jewish communities in the U.S.? The suburbs of Beachwood, Orange, and Solon are all 30-90% Jewish demographically. If you go to public school in any of these suburbs you will get Jewish holidays off because of how big the Jewish population is.
Can confirm, I lived in Orange and worked in Beachwood. Honestly miss the community.
Yes! Fellow Clevelander. I agree.
Plus Great Lakes and an incredible art museum
Cleveland has comparatively affordable housing and beautiful old buildings too!
Miami is like a mini Latin Tel Aviv. You’ll find a great second home and a strong community there. I’d suggest making a visit yourself and seeing what it’s all about. I can guarantee you will love it. Great music scene, it’s famous for hosting annual “Miami music week”, has loads of events always happening, super cultural, great restaurants (Israeli, Latin, Asian, etc.), a lot of Jewish people, and non Jewish people who support and love Israel.
I’m telling you, Miami is the best city in the US for us by far.
Seriously, Miami stands with Israel and the Jewish population more than any place in the West that I know of. A beacon of light in these times, and so much else to love here too despite rising costs
Boston.
lol Boston is ground zero for insane lefties who would turn into Jihadis for clout.
No, the SF Bay Area has that title I think.
There are great people and assholes everywhere. You might have to make new friends when you get back, but that also happens to people for non-political reasons (like people getting priced out of expensive cities). Whatever music scene you are in may have a lot to do with this too. If it's small, very political, and super progressive you probably won't have a good time regardless of what city you are in. I'm in NYC, and run with a team. I've had no problems there. Someone I know doing a different sport feels a need to keep their mouth shut around teammates because that sport happens to have a lot of very anti-Israel people. It really depends who you are around, not what city you are in.
Charleston has a pretty reasonable Jewish community, and leans center/conservative.
Hot as hell though, and hurricanes.
As a Charleston Jew, this is the answer.
I truly feel free in SE AZ.
Assuming everyone is armed keeps everyone civil for the most part.
not the bay area. I’m too anxious to wear my SF Hillel shirt from uni
West/ north-west Philly!
Jews first, Democrats and Republicans second.
Everyone is low-key 420 friendly.
Amazing music scene, my wife and I are seeing Infected Mushroom this summer (playing on a Thursday!!)
There's only one "Orthodox Jewish" here, but different levels of observance. People don't judge and everyone tries to do better.
The rabbis are chill and there's a lot of overlap between the synagogues. Aish and the kollel are across the street from each other and the same people can often be seen at both.
Baltimore is great!! Killer music scene, and huge names skipping DC for Baltimore lately. Good food (I don’t keep kosher) and the antisemitism is pretty mild. The few Gaza posters I’ve seen have been ripped down. Large Jewish community just outside the city, and a growing young Jewish community downtown. If you’re in New York, please come visit! I love it here.
Stay in Israel it's better here
St. Louis MO has a fantastic Jewish community, and is a super diverse city that is having a rising culture and economic boom right now.
The only problem is that it's in MO, which went super red post Trump, so there are a lot of alt-right bigots and uneducated fucknuts surrounding the city. Before 2016, though, the state was historically very purple, so plenty of smart and moderate people still here.
The city itslef has remained a bastion of culture in a sea of rural red (like most cities in deep red places post 2016). Highly recommend as a jew.
Mid Mi in general is nice due to Detroit, but that’s mainly because the Jewish population is matched with evangelist ones, so take that how you’d like.
Denver, CO has been quite welcoming. Our governor is Jared Polis, so
It’s crazy to me that I can no longer recommend NYC. Long Island is fine though.
I am down in Houston, TX we have a lot of Jewish people in certain neighborhoods, and if you look at the Wikipedia page for bellaire high school it seven says it used to be known as “Hebrew High” because of the high population of Jewish students. They even teach Hebrew in the high school as a foreign language elective. We have a relatively low crime rate and people here are generally friendly.
How do people feel about LA, especially with the music scene there? I was impressed with the pro-Israel people I met there.
I’m in LA. Somewhat varies by hood and while yeah there are protests, we have a strong Jewish community. I’ll go out on a limb and recommend the western half of the San Fernando Valley for a good balance of Jewish stuff (synagogues to food to people including Ashkies, Persians, and Israelis) with QOL and COL. if you’re willing to deal with LA’s brand of urban my sense of the political climate is practical progressive. Very dem, but lots of Jews in the political scene. My state rep and US rep are both Jewish.
South Florida has a huge Jewish community and is a purple area in a red state. There’s a bit of everything here, from south of Brickell up to Tequesta. There are some extremely pro-Israel people down here, the gun laws are excellent except for no open carry, there’s no state income tax, and medical marijuana is everywhere. Plus you’re almost always near a Whole Foods, sprouts, or other high end grocer. Palm Beach county in particular is excellent.
There is a lot of live music of all genres, robust nightlife options, excellent water sports, zoos, museums, etc.
The downsides are traffic everywhere (seriously, it’s bad), miserable heat during the summer, the highest point in the southern 1/3 of the state is the Medley Landfill, and the occasional hurricane. Also the cost of living is a bit higher than the national average, although much better than NYC.
The Cubans have brought a very anti-socialist ethos to the region which has caused a great deal of economic prosperity and an atmosphere that is generally pro-Israel, but without the Christian dogma prevalent in other southern states.
All in all I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, except perhaps New Hampshire or Wyoming, but those are destinations for when I retire.
South Florida is the closest place to approximating Israel, unfortunately sans our excellent technology industry. It's true that Jews live everywhere in the USA, it is a in fact a very Jewish country. But, South Florida feels a bit different in this in that it is unusually Jewish and almost feels like Israel. It even have similar traffic patterns and weather.
If I’m going to Florida it’s Orlando. But I cannot stand the heat- I just can’t do it.
Also missed the bus on being able to afford to buy a home
Possibly DC or Baltimore. Not sure about music scene but pretty big populations here.
I'm about to move there, merriweather has great big concerts and I see a few things for musicians in town (I'm one) like a weekly bluegrass/old time jam, also hear catonsville has a good music scene.
Welcome to Baltimore!! It’s a wonderful city. That bluegrass jam is really really fun. You’re going to love it here!
I'm in the US and moving to Miami Beach soon. I believe the population of Miami Beach and Miami City are both are 20% Jewish. Miami Beach's mayor is Jewish. To me it looks to have a lesser neo-nazi presence than other cities I considered such as Boston and Seattle.
If people are mentioning Miami, I'm gonna mention L.A. It's got lots of room and every scene you could want.
Austin is nice, good mix of liberal and conservative.
NYC is still the closest thing we have to a safe haven aside from Eretz Yisrael
u/MySexyPancreas id check out Austin. Young city, on the upswing, lots to do, and has both the best vegan spot and some of the best brisket I’ve had in a while.
Side note, one of the big local Republican club guys is a Jew named Tropp(?) if you’re into politics, his LinkedIn makes him seem pretty connected to the community
Milwaukee is nice. We’ve got our share of the weirdness but nothing too large scale
Miami or maybe Minneapolis.
minneapolis being represented by ilhan omar? bit of a turn off for a lotta folks
Austin is supposed to have a really good creative scene lately. Denver is also not too bad, but I have heard Austin is a bit more dynamic these days and they’ve got plenty of spots to play live.
Large southern cities/maybe college towns are your answer
You had worthless colleagues and friends if they abandoned you like that. It's tough to say where you'll find a place but they exist here.
South Florida is nice
These protestors are many of the same BLM crazies who burned down neighborhoods, were allowed to march through a contagious pandemic while everyone else was encouraged to stay home, bashed cops, hated on “white” ppl, and harassed & canceled anyone that didn’t agree with them. How long did that last? About a year and a half? Now they moved onto Jew hating. It ramped up for the past 7 months, and I suspect we have another 6 months to a year of this crap before these people move onto the next demographic they view as “oppressors”. So, wherever you move to, know that this trend of “identifying the oppressors” will move on from the Jews to another group.
It’s really unfortunate how radicalized people have become. You have the far left that are simping over the Houthis and Islamic Republic of Iran and they don’t know enough about the situation and just parrot bingo words off a sheet yet they can’t tell you which river or which sea. And they definitely don’t know who occupied Gaza or the West Bank before 1967.
I live in a very Jewish area of LA where we have public benches that say “love your neighbor as yourself” written in Hebrew, while our Ralphs has a kosher deli/market attached to it and almost all of the benches have been crossed out with spray paint or had “free Palestine” written over them.
You’re entering a new world here in America if you’re trying to interact with anybody under 35
Texas is Full 🤠🤠🤠
Come to a wealthier area of southern California. Most of the taxpayers here are actually conservative, despite what the media and colleges will have you believe.
We just have a large amount unemployed losers who you’d never need to speak with anyway, so their opinions are meaningless.
Miami.
Honolulu. It has both big city and small town vibes. Pretty small Jewish population, but also more insulated from what's happening on the mainland and abroad. It feels very safe, the weather is great. Good live music, fun cocktail bars, can't complain.
Not Austin or the west coast
Colorado has been fine. The only real protest site is in auraria and nobody seems to care it’s there. A lot of the protesters have gone home because they’re not really getting the reaction they want.
Stay in Israel
Austin
Warning here is Austin housing prices have spiked a lot in the last few years as a lot of folks moved there post pandemic. Make sure you plan your budget well.
Or it’s less expensive neighbor, San Antonio
I thought it’s getting cheap now since the tech industry mostly failed/ layoffs / everyone leaving
Not last I heard. Don't live there but have several friends who do.
Baltimore has a large community.
When you say “Pro-Israel” are you pro “Jews having a homeland to avoid oppression” or “stripping Palestinians of land and life”? Because there is a difference.
Yeah the difference is that the only people advocating for the latter is Israel’s equivalent of Marjorie Taylor Green.
literally who actively wants the latter? this braindead demonizing rhetoric makes me want to barf
Yea get the fuck out of the stolen ass land.
Don’t be so judgy. Maybe they’re going to convert and stay at a Native American reservation.

My hope is that the casual trendy antisemitism amongst the youth will reduce back down to a simmer once the next oppression Olympics starts trending on TikTok.
New Orleans has a Jewish community and is perhaps the most culturally unique place in the US. But the hurricane season and near continuous flooding will take some time to get used to
