But also some of the more extreme folks have a general idea of believing they should keep whatever they acquire in Conquest. Israeli's officially have always returned land as part of Peace deals, and it's pretty clear the West Bank has been kept as is for as long as it's been because they want the ultimate peace deal from the future Palestinian state. The thing is the more people they have there the heart it will be for anyone to move them much less a professional Army. The clock is ticking on that one. If Palestine is serious about wanting there to be a Palestine they need to secure land now and they can secure to 1967 borders now.

They don’t have any nuclear weapons to give up. If Israel broke the deal, they would be right back to where they are now - under siege. Why not improve the status quo?

They are literally giving up nothing, a ceasefire is in the interest of both people, and it is literally what the pro-Palestinian cause is asking for.

“We dismantled the military bases in Gaza.” But not in the West Bank. Just as Israel believes it is entitled to bomb in response to a shelling … so does Hamas see itself as entitled and even obligated to respond to the harm caused by Israel to the West Bank's Palestinians.

So, what is this supposed to mean? Israel offers to peacefully coexist with Gaza. Hamas says "no we don't want to because we have plenty of other reasons to kill you". So, if they don't want to, they don't want to. It's their decision. It doesn't mean Israel didn't make the offer, right?

One thing to keep in mind is that while in this conflict people fight, die and suffer on both sides, it's fundamentally not symmetrical. Israel is an established state, democratic, developed and prosperous, one of the best places in the world to live. To it, conflict with Palestinians is a nuisance. It's ready to pay and to compromise to remove this problem, but only within limits, and most important of all, only with firm guarantee that it'll actually end the conflict.

So Israel periodically offers to make certain steps towards normalization and peace, to which Palestinians answer "no way there is still occupation and so we still want to kill you". So, Israel is expected to give up on absolutely everything, continue suffering Palestinian violence while it does so, and then hopefully things will settle down. Or most likely not.

This is, however, not going to happen.

Where Hamas has attacked is Gaza, and that hasn't been occupied by Israel. Even though it has been blockaded as a result of some earlier insurgencies dating back to 2006, I think there is still no motive for attack as by now billions of dollars and supplies that have been donated by Iran, Qatar, etc, had made its way to weaponry which then Hamas uses for attacks instead of actual human development, as they mostly if not fully rely on Israel for water and electricity, which may be the reason for people saying that Israel has an unprecedented influence over the Gaza. West Bank is a different story as it is not as populated of Hamas as Gaza is, and it has settlements and gated communities that people may find controversial. Personally, I think that the breaking of the Oslo accords and the Camp David Summit by the PLO, Fatah, Hamas, etc, has prompted the gated communities in the West Bank. I enjoyed answering your question and giving a breakdown of my opinion of this issue.

yes, you missed a few major things.

1. terrorist acts were done by both sides mostly against the british, but against each other too.
2. there were two sideds attempting to make a state in the same location not just he jews.
3. there was a war.
4. palestinians are only paying a price today due to the arab nations and arab league, who rather than giving them a state of their own. and settling any remaining refugees, got them annexed by other arab states and left the refugees in the hopes of being a thorn in the side of israel.
5. and their land was collectively owned by the british not the palestinians, see point 3, as to why jews got the collective ownership.
6. palestinians and arabs local to the mandate where against the existance of a jewish state in any form boardering an arab state.

I’m pretty sure the Ottoman Empire’s name was on the deed, and Palestinians were just the tenants. At least in the ways that matter geopolitically who actually controls and administers the territory is more important than the ethnicity or even desires of the disconnected villages living in the area

Why can’t this conflict be viewed as a war of independence at the end of colonialism, one in which Palestinians both initiated and lost?
