It wasn't until it was said that his "words and views are not only un-American, but beneath any respectable person wishing to hold public office" that Braun decided to backtrack his statement and say that he "misunderstood the question", however, the question of the Supreme Court leaving interracial marriage up to the states isn't something to be misunderstood
