Why it is so overpriced? A ceramic one cost over 1000 rupees. But I can't justify the price for such a simple equipment. What I mean, something like a good hand grinder might cost 5-6 k or a french press or mocha pot may cost 1k-2k, because they have lots of moving parts, or they have to be precise but why the f*** something as simple as a glass/ ceramic v60 cost so much? My french press cost me 550 only, and its a good french press, but why something as simple as a v60 is so overpriced? ( I'm not a expert on coffee or v60, it's just my observation, so don't mind if I said something stupid)
Firstly, plastic V60 is not that expensive. You can get it for sound 450-500 Rs.
There are several factors why Hario charges a premium for the ceramic V60.
It’s a patented design and Hario charges a premium for that. Another example is Chemex brewer, which is even more expensive than Hario because it’s the design they sell, not the material.
It’s a one-time investment. I bought my Hario dripper 8 years ago and I still use it.
Ceramic as a material is usually a bit expensive because they are made from pure materials that are chemically non-reactive. They are aesthetically pleasing than plastic or glass.
Also, your French press costed you 550 because you bought a cheap rip off design of the original French press. You can similarly find rip off designs of the V60 for cheap too.
