According to the IRCC website, I can take my own selfie for my PR card. Has anyone done this, and if so, do you have any tips so it isn't rejected?

Been there. Done that. Took picture on DSLR and used photoshop to edit my picture to the requirements. There are lots of YouTube videos which helped me. IRCC accepted my first submission

What did you do for the part that requires a document...
The back of one photo must include:
- the subject’s name and date of birth
- the name and complete address of the photography studio
- the date the photograph was taken
The photographer may use a stamp or handwrite this information. Stick-on labels are unacceptable.
For digital photos, this information can be provided in one separate document including a confirmation from the photo studio (i.e. receipt).

I recently went thru it, lots of trial and error, in the end, cell phone pic (not selfie) and I used an app to make the background whiter, don't remember which app tho
