A Lone Man Refusing to Do the Nazi Salute (1936)
Like he's saying "you sheep make me sick"
The lone American.
What???
You're right towerfella; not all Americans were against Nazism or fascism. In fact quite a few were supportive of what Hitler and other fascists were doing. When today, some 80-90 years later... You'd think that all the Nazis are gone, but they still come out of the woodwork when they think the time is right. Thank you Chumbawamba!
Yeah, .. looks like that guy was against it, though.
And I believe Americans on the whole are not fascist, but that doesn’t stop fascist people from coming here and speaking loudly.
Well, that's an interesting point of history. There were home-grown, domestic US fascists, and they (at one point) seemed to be planning to overthrow the US government: the 1933 Business Plot against FDR that sought to start a coup. Didn't work.
In other words, US fascists were not foreigners or foreign agitators. There was a lot of sympathy for European fascism before WWII.
It could happen again, and democracies need to be very vigilant right now.
Edit to add: this photo is from Europe, not the US, to be clear.
Sounds like now. -ahem- Bit that is what makes us great; we can talk about it.
there literaly at taht era a oficial nazi party in USA you know right?
How many?
We are a melting pot for the world.. of course there will be some. But discussion changes minds.
too much https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/american-nazism-and-madison-square-garden
https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2019/02/20/695941323/when-nazis-took-manhattan
and there still fachist today of course .
Or, alternatively, this person: http://wegert-familie.de/home/English.html
The alternative suggestion (Gustav Wegert) seems like the more likely candidate once you compare the three photographs. That has to be the same man.
Definitely gustav!
Agree. I think there is much stronger evidence it is Gustav Wegert than August Landmasser.
100%. His mug matches the photo, whereas August does not. That man was a hero in his own right, but this one goes to Gustav.
Even better that there are multiple heroes, right?
Of course. Anyone resisting Nazis, past or present.
“Landmesser had run afoul of the Nazi Party over his unlawful relationship with Irma Eckler, a Jewish woman. For this, he was imprisoned and eventually drafted into penal military service, where he was killed in action.”
“It is believed that [his wife] was taken to the Bernburg Euthanasia Centre in February 1942, where she was among the 14,000 murdered. In the course of post-war documentation, in 1949, she was pronounced legally dead, with a date of 28 April 1942.”
“Initially, their children were taken to the city orphanage. Later, [their first daughter] Ingrid was allowed to live with her maternal grandmother. In 1941, [their second daughter] Irene went to the home of foster parents. After her grandmother's death in 1953, Ingrid also was placed with foster parents.”
:(
Bernburg Euthanasia Center...that's just awful. As a disabled person it makes me so angry that people defend or fly a nazi flag.
Man his biography was so tragic along with the fate of his wife. Fuck.
…but unfortunately not uncommon.
And the depressing thing, even if he was against Hitler and the Nazis, it is still very likely that he was conscripted into the military and died some horrible death on some battle field, or, if he remained at home, died some horrible death buried under burning rubble.
And that’s pretty much what actuallyhappened
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Landmesser
Someone commented this earlier, and he’s one of the possible persons in that photo. His story is really sad and awful.
So standard military stuff?
What Happened to him ?
He was drafted into the German army and was killed in action in 1944.
He died a hero's death after the war. His balls of steel were smelted then used to rebuild Berlin.
you people are so fucking weird
Relax bro
He was arrested for having a Jewish girlfriend and sentenced to military conscription where he died
He was diagnosed with the bullet in the brain disease
Is that Andy Richter? The Swedish German?
a man without a doghouse for sure
I didn’t even know he was sick!
Andy Richter, he don’t go for that funny business neither!
Dude in the bottom right corner isn't doing it either...
I see about 6 people not doing it, and a few more that you can't say for sure.
Or they are the two guys not paying attention, two guys with shoulder issues, who knows why they aren’t doing it lol
That is %100 courage…to stand up for what is wrong when others won’t.
What if he had a bad rotator?
Then he should have taken some meth…pretty sure it was in abundance In Nazi Germany
No one ever talks about the benefits of living under the Nazis.
Weird how i see a few men not raising their arm..
I didn’t get a harumph outta that guy!
His name was Girt Schollbrun and he was upset because he thought the Nazis weren’t going far enough
More than one person not doing it. Stupid picture.
Based
That is a true gentleman
his action & his facial expression made me smile
"I'm not"
Never seen again
Time traveler.
He looks like a time traveler just observing. 🤪
A beautiful example of society and sheeple. Love it. It shows how many people who are mass-conditioned exist in the world. We're easily swayed by the thinking that we are actually superior to others because we want to be special. The disease of specialness is rampant in our society. Look at social media's influence -- You're special, now make a selfie or become an "influencer" to be seen and heard. What is it in our DNA as humans that wants to be like everyone else but worships the one difference like an Adolph Hitler as a holy grail? Drones of humanity. We think that we're evolving because technology moves so fast? Not really. But most of us don't have the self-reflective powers to actually critically think through our actions and consequences, now we're letting 1's and 0's do that for us? So lost. We're too busy being busy at allowing ourselves to be anesthetized daily.
“Be that guy.”
Yes Jewish man
He made a difference.
Nowadays this would be the one politician on Germany who takes a stand against uncontrolled immigration.
Later he was diagnosed with a very rare disease called "bullet in the brain" disease.
Russians today vs that one russia against putin
It’s because his last name was also Hitler…
Living in a rural southern area, I feel this.
Merica
Just here for the brats
Fucking Karl, always had a problem with authority. Would do the deed, but still had lip and plenty of dip, of which he got dirt cheap.
Refused to wear the ribbon
Maybe he didn’t have arms
What they don’t say is that this man just didn’t think Hitler went far enough (mods I am joking please mercy me)
Hitler wasn't right wing enough for him.
His name most definitely was put on a list and a visit was paid.
A true great film by Terrance Malick about an Austrian who refused to conform is A Hidden Life.
Look harder. THere are several not doing the roman salute.
It looks like a Trump rally
Looks like my dad during the vaccine pressure. He is the only person I know who didn't get the vaccine or covid.
Especially after you already contacted the disease. It’s like everyone forgot about natural immunity in 2020 and 2021.
You can’t become “naturally immune” to viruses that mutate and evolve in variants.
So how can a vaccine specifically designed for one variant also keep up? Natural immunity is superior to the Covid vaccine. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36362500/. There is a reason why a cold vaccine was never developed. https://www.robitussin.com/cough-cold-center/why-no-vaccination-against-common-cold/
How does the yearly seasonal flu campaign work?
Completely not related. Influenza (flu) and the common cold are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. Flu is caused by influenza viruses only, whereas the common cold can be caused by a number of different viruses, including rhinoviruses, parainfluenza, and seasonal coronaviruses.
The yearly influenza vaccine campaign is very related. It shows how poorly informed you are.
Destroying Nazi Germany was imperative, but the Allies in the end gave everything that Germany had in the East plus half of Germany with half of Berlin to Stalin. That was considered winning?
The only Jew at the rally
Woke.
There’s ☝🏽more he’s 👀dead at the the camera 📸 too
Russian front
My ADHD ass getting all the 'ooos' and 'aaaahs' from people 80 years later just for spacing out and forgetting it was time to heil.
Traitor dog
Not voting for biden energy
One person running for Pres certainly has that Hitler vibe ... And it isn't Biden.
I get that Biden is kind of a shitty President but how is he anything even close to Hitler?
Genocide comes to mind
Because Biden is totally committing genocide right now
Who is he committing genocide against?
Trump said he would like Israel to “finish the job”
Yea the ppl claiming Biden is bad support Trump, who's ok with letting Israel just crush the Palestinians to dust?
Joe Manchin.
I'm liking the look on his face, it's suggesting a smirk
