Made the decision to swap my bed for a hammock one week ago tonight and I haven't regretted it a single night. Just wanted to spread the love.
Hm. I have a double BearButt, but I ordered a double La Siesta that I'm waiting on. I like my double a lot, but what works for you works!
I was talking about my quilt, but yeah, double hammocks do tend to be more comfortable.
Oh, oh. I do need an underquilt I think. Gets colder inside than I imagined
made mine from an old double comforter and three para-cord loops. One loop that passes thru both long edges but not the short edges and anchors to the same points as the hammock, length adjusted to bring sides up to match the hammock, then one loop thru each of the short edges attached to the respective anchor points, also shared by the hammock and long loop, adjusted to close the ends of the comforter against the hammocks gathers. Each of the corners has two loops running out of the comforter to the anchor points. Hope that made some sense.
Top quilt! I was talking about my top quilt!
Jeez, I must be sucking at communicating today, lol.
I do also have an under quilt for winter that I made from a few cotton blankets from Ikea.
I love how weight isn't an issue for my home hammock, unlike my hiking hammock, so I can just use heavy, comfortable bedding.
Oops I think I replied to the wrong comment, but right place at least lol. Anyway, yeah at home I use the poncho thrown together uq, and a regular blanket. I also use a king size blanket, so if I'm sleeping during the day I'll throw it over my ridgeline and make myself a teepee/man-fort lol.
I'll throw it over my ridgeline and make myself a teepee/man-fort lol.
Genius!
Yep, thats what i do, only i use a costco down throw for my teepee. Really holds the heat in. I have a topcover for my chameleon, but even the bugnet provides some additional comfort by comtrolling air currents.
Made mine from an old military poncho liner and paracord lol. I have a real one for camping.
my desk is right in reach of my hammock, so the cat naturally scales to the window, to the top of a bookcase across the room and then leaps from there. I think he likes the way the hammock swings after impact.
Dunno about your life, but check out r/hammockcamping if you sleep anywhere besides your bedroom. I sleep in a hammock at home as well, but mine is the same setup for camping anywhere else too.
Oh yeah, those guys are great :)
Im over two years full time sleeping in a hammock. Vacations are tough, i actually have to sleep in a bed.
I run into lots of people who have back and other pain, and they go to great lengths and spend a ton of money trying to find a comfortable bed. So i love to bring up that i sleep in a hammock. You might as well tell them you like to eat chalk, youll get about the same reaction.
Meanwhile, im thinking they are the crazy one.
Yeah I just told my aunt and she acted like my back was already done for. People just can't process that they might be wrong about something they've done all their life.
I take my hammock and stand with me. Occasional odd look at a hotel, but no issues so far.
I was full time for almost a year, split my time between inside and out. I've gone back to ground, but still have one setup in the basement when I feel the urge. Still the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Welcome to the tribe.
Why the ground? Do you enjoy it?
I call a bed "ground." I like sleepinging with my wife. Being close to her is one of the reasons I married her. She complained about my snoring quite a bit, I lost a significant amount of weight and started using my CPAP again. But sometimes the hammock calls to me.
Ah, I see. Thanks for the reply
When I wake up in bed with a sore back I will often switch to my hammock for relief.
I've been sleeping in my hammock full time for over a year now. My friend actually just suggested that I share my underquilt hack. I took a sleeping bag that can unzip fully (so it's completely flat like a blanket), because the zipper doesn't close completely at the bottom. There's a small hole just big enough for the rope to pass through, so the sleeping bag fits all the way around the hammock like a tube. No more paracord/underquilt hassle, the sleeping bag slides down out of the way, and you just swing your legs down and get out. I hope this is understandable... If you're interested, I'll share a pic. It's pretty life-changing, not gonna lie
Please share that pic! I have a sleeping bag to spare.
Bless. I'll have to give that a shot. You hang your so high, though!
Yeah, there's usually one hanging below it. I honestly prefer it hanging higher tho 🤷♂️
I struggled with my bedroom hammock until I swapped out the queen size doona I was using for a single. Much easier to get comfortable now. I did have to make stairs so my elderly cat can get in with me.
