It's definitely not a huge upgrade but I like the new squared look and how it's a little wider. Probably won't be upgrading til the 7 personally but if it has good trade in deals I'd be a little tempted
I don't understand why people are happy about the squared off design. Has nobody ever held an Ultra in their hands? That's as uncomfortable as an in hand phone experience can get.
I wanted the 6 so bad until I saw that. Might have to just get the 5 as my first foldable
My father has the s24u and I'm on the fold5 now, really love the squared sleek design of the s24u, but I'm upgrading anyway, always prefer the latest cpu and looking forward to the new touch of the fold6
Possible if you want to trade in something like Z fold 3 + an S23U.
Does Samsung still allow for trading in multiple devices?
They did for fold 4. And they could be broken.
Kinda hope they do the same with this Gen
They did not for fold 5
They're going to have to bring it back because they said they would give $1,500 for trade in bonus and there's 0 chance they offer that much for even a Fold 5.
True
It's confirmed on their website for the F6. Offering $1,500 for trade in. No way they are giving $1,500 for one phone.
I tend to upgrade every year because I don't trust the inner screen lasting and Samsung offers decent discounts for pre order.
I'm planning on every other year because it barely loses any trade in value in that time (if any - Fold 3 and 4 currently have the same value towards the 5, and this was true for Black Friday too). If a phone can't last two years without breaking, I don't want it
You're right. Realistically it should last 2 years without breaking but I'm okay paying a slight premium to change it annually.
Fair enough.
I'm not, I'm already paying a premium to get a fold instead of a slab - sans the S Pen and the folding, the S24+ is the same specs for half the price, and I wouldn't upgrade that more often than every 3-4 years if I went that way.
I feel the same way. I have been trading in/upgrading every year since the Fold 2. Was surprised how the thinner hinge and minor update to inner display screen protector improved how I use the device. Now the spen is always available without adding too much bulk/case width. So with Fold 5 I always have the spen handy. I don't miss not having a dedicated silo inside the unit for spen storage.
Latest processor and great bundle discounts for latest ear buds don't hurt either.
What I do question is why I have been upgrading my galaxy watch every year. Software features don't really improve enough for me...
I'm in the same exact boat as you. I also started on the fold 2. The incremental changes are nicer than people realize. The hinge in the 5 is far superior to the 4 for me.
I keep upgrading the watch but the features aren't much better I mainly do it for the bundle. I sell the old watch on eBay it usually balances out.
I also keep getting new buds. Resale market in those isn't great so I have several laying around. Feels wasteful.
You could of traded your buds in for more discounts
I tried it actually doesn't allow it for the bundle same as the watch. If you buy them separately they give you a discount but it's not significant.
Anything is better than nothing, as for me they would sit in my closet forever if I don't trade them in
They're good back ups. Leave one in a car or work locker. Not a great use but I think Samsung offers like $20 which is basically nothing. You can trade in $10 cheap Bluetooth headphones and they offer the same amount.
This is the way. Great trade in value and warranty refresh for the win!
This for sure.
You can upgrade and it doesn't have to be with Samsung any more. The OnePlus Open 2 when it comes out I guarantee will wipe the floor with the Fold 6
Not sure the software experience with One Plus is there though.
I see no reason so far to do it. The Fold 5 is my all-time favorite phone. I love the form factor, opened and closed, and I am not much a camera person, so don't really see any feature that can justify the pain of setting up a new device.
My Fold 5, so far and knocking on wood, is as good as the first day.
I should probably say for context that my phone before this one was an iPhone 8 and I only changed it because the Fold gave me a bunch of things that the iPhone 8 couldn't.
Have you noticed if the screen's crease become more pronounced over time?
I honestly feel that the phone looks exactly the same as 1 year ago. The crease is mostly invisible most of the time.
I do wipe the interior screen often.
100% my crease has become deeper and more pronounced. At launch did not notice it all that much, 1 year on it is very visible and very noticeable. Especially on white backgrounds. Fold 5
Not sure why people are downvoting you for just explaining your experience
I guess you are not allowed to have a negative experience. I honestly starting noticing it after 2-3 months that it was getting deeper and I started googling are other people having the same issue. To be fair it is still usable but all the people saying their phone is the same as day 1, that is not my experience. Mine is 100% deeper, more pronounced and more noticable than it was
Agreed. Although, Android is a lot better at restoring a backup than it used to. Still not as streamlined as iCloud though. Samsung/Google kinda stumble over each other.
Only if the trade in deal is amazing, otherwise I don't see the point.
One year Fold5 user here. Heavy use daily driver phone for work and personal use. Phone is in immaculate condition. No need to upgrade but if the early adopter trade is good I'll consider it.
Honestly I'm eyeing the competition this year. Pixel and OnePlus might just make me jump ship from the 5 with the right kind of magic
The current OnePlus Open even at 8 months old looks incredible. I can't wait til the second one comes out. It'll have a better camera than the Fold 6 for sure.
I don't see why more people aren't dumping Samsung after such minor and pathetic updates on top of price increases too. Give your money to companies that actually evolve. We're letting Samsung become the next Apple and it sucks.
I'm definitely getting Fold 6. The 5 is great, but the bigger screen looks cleaner.
lol. No. But it does have me definitely looking for a different phone.
Yes because Yolo
I think my decision will be based on the trade-in deals and the unpacked event. From the leaks it doesn't seem too worth it. The first Fold I got was the 3 and didn't upgrade until the 5 came out. I may just continue that trend and wait til the 7.
I have a tiny scratch on the smaller screen, I wonder if that's gonna affect trade in values.
Highly unlikely. They ding for cracks and broken screens, not minor wear and tear.
I'm waiting to see unpacked and mess with all the discounts. Honestly right now I'm kinda leaning pixel Fold 2.. but if the deals are good enough on the 6 I'll go for it.
Nah. It's very similar to the Fold5. I never wanted it wider, but the Fold6 is slightly thinner. But it's so slight that I don't care. Honestly, coming from a Fold4, I think the 5 is about perfect. Hinge is sooo much better.
Many people like the square look, but IMO it now looks like any regular Galaxy phone. At least the older skinnier models have a unique look to them. You know what it is the moment you see it.
I'm going to go from f3 to f6, so for me, it's different. F3 is still pretty good if you ask me. It's just starting to age.
After paying top dollar for the Samsung blue 1TB, they’d have to offer me something big. Mine works perfect like day 1 and I have outstanding battery life….i go over 2 days before charging with 45% still remaining. Dont care about the camera too much. I use this for business mostly as a court reporter. Had the Note 20U 512gb before this. I really didn’t want to trade that in either. That was a great phone. I do not miss the built-in S pen, and I do have the S-Pen Pro that I never used yet…waste of money. And I do have the slim S Pen case still in the package. I am using the clear Samsung case still with the ring thingy on the back. I have to see what the new one looks like first and the trade-in value.
I love the S pen pro. It's just not -easy- to use on the go. Great at home though! Can use the same pen on the fold as the tablet. The tiny pens are too tiny imo. Would love it if they made them bigger!
Honest question here, if you're not using the S pen and you still have 45% left after 2 days, what are you using your phone for? You can't be using it much for fold things (like movies/YouTube) because your battery life would not be that great. If that's the case, why did you buy such a big expensive phone?
LOL. That is just me, with everything I buy, or can afford to buy. I use my phone for business. I am a court reporter and I use it for reading my transcripts, and Zoom when necessary, although I use my PCs most of the time. But nothing works like my Fold for reading mail and doing court work. I don’t answer my phone or play games or even stream much. When I switched 4 years ago from all IOS, iPhone, MacBooks, etc., I made my kids and friends upset as they are mostly iPhone users. My kids especially got upset because I messed up their group texting n videos. So for that, I use my iPad Pro 12.9” which for the most part, I hate Apple, but use the iPad to keep the peace. Before the Fold, I had the best phone ever…..note 20U 512gb in matte black….sorry I didn’t just keep it as a spare.
Ahhh, that makes sense. Using the Fold to read and send emails is a game changer.
So far this phone has been terrific, but it would be foolish at this point to go to a 6 which won’t really be much different, other than maybe shape. Front screen is fine for me…my fingers are small (F). But I’m a computer tech and kinda geeky since I got A+ certified in the 90’s. So new stuff always intrigues me…..like I said, Samsung would have to give me back a huge chunk for this phone or I’m keeping it. I also have the Samsung Galaxy Pro 360 1TB, 15.6” in that navy blue. Got it when I got the Fold, so it’s first gen. The camera is the worst piece of crap though and I cannot use it for Zoom at all as people just look distorted…..it’s a beautiful display if I don’t have to go live! And to upgrade to their latest Pro 360, they had the nerve to offer me $75…..I’d sooner let my little grandkids kill it! I paid $1600 plus…..
I am. Mostly because my work pays for it. Lol. Also i prefer the new design.
Gray 1TB here. ive been heavily considering it
I need a fast phone to win bids as an Amazon flex driver and delivering Walmart spark. I'm waiting to see how much faster the phone is than the five. I could see myself paying a couple hundred dollars, but not a thousand.
Not sure why you're getting downvoted, lol. All valid points. If my phone was vital for my business, I'd upgrade every year. Helps that the purchase is a tax write off too.
Only if they offer a good trade deal!
I have the 4 and I'm gonna wait till the 7 and hope it offers more
Will our fold 4 survive until then? Trade in value will drop a lot more by then as well.
100%
Going to pick up the Watch Ultra LTE too of the leaks are to be believed.
Maybe 3 to 6, if I get the perfect deal!
I'm waiting to see what pixel fold 2 has before I decide for sure. My Pixel 8 Pro is pretty great but I do like my Fold as well. Maybe I can get both in one.
probably not upgrading to the 6 from the 5 unless trade ins are very good AND there are features like a considerably better camera and direct camera integration to social media apps like the S24 has... Which I don't understand why the fold 5 does not get this camera integration
Nah. I don’t see much point in buying it. Maybe if the trade in on my 5 is ridiculously good. Maybe if the keynote has some surprises like qi2. I doubt I’ll bite though.
Still rocking the 3 and waiting for an actual upgrade. Besides the galaxy ring I plan to buy to complement my watch.
If the trade in deal is amazing.... maybe. I've been really bummed about the lack of improvements. When I went from the 4 to the 5 I was shocked and how similar it was. Other than moving the flash so my old case covered it I wouldn't have even noticed if someone had switched them out on me. The old case still fit.
Yes, I've upgraded every year since the 3
Me might not be day 1 but yeah I'm thinking about it
I don't buy phones I just rent them.
I've had every version since the OG and trade yearly. But...the PF2 could be worth considering. I'm going to wait a bit this time. The 6 truly seems like an incremental upgrade.
I'll have to see what the trade-in offers are like and if the s-pen works on the external screen. The free year of samsung care was also tempting, if true.
Yes because I like new things and I have disposable income.
Tbh seeing the leaks, not much to expect. I have fold 4 and so I might switch depending on the trade in value I get for fold 4.
Sticking with my 5 until the 8 or 9 comes out.
Nope, HATE the square design. Will most likely get the Pixel Fold 2.
No. Not worth it
Fold 5 user here. It's seriously holding up very well. Samsung really knocked it out of the park with this one. My 3's inner screen protector was bubbling after 10 months but my 5 is pristine. I'll hang on to my 5 until they boost battery life by over 30% and improve the camera hardware.
I have a Fold 3 and a 5. After 8 months the screen protector at the crease gave way. 6 days later I still haven't got my phone back. It was the same crease issue for Fold 3.
So on the day I sent it for warranty claim, I bought 23 Ultra (huge savings vs 24 Ultra and I'm not too anal about specs). I'm not going back. I will miss the real estate but damn, the sheer inconvenience is no longer worth it for me.
Depends on the trade-in and also how much has changed . Else I will get the pixel fold 2
Nah, I love the look and feel of the fold 5 and I finally got a great case/kickstand/grip/matte screen protector combo. I'll probably wait till the next gen
Yep. 5 is paid off, 6 is pre-ordered
No: If the leaks are true and the only upgrades being applied are software related mostly. Pray this isn't the route they go because it would be extremely out of character and disappointing for a company that boasts innovation since the time the Note series was created.
Yes: If, once unveiled July 10th, Samsung surprises us with worthy hardware upgrades then I'll reconsider but until then, Fold 5 is literally where they've peaked as far I'm concerned based on the competition.
It was a mistake going from the 3 to the 4. It was a mistake going from the 4 to the 5. It’ll be a mistake going from the 5 to the 6.
Live n not learn. lol
Truth is it I had a 3 I’d be perfectly happy with it. Nothing about the later two warranted an upgrade. Yes even the 6. Stick with your 3. Don’t upgrade until there is a noticeable difference. In 3 releases it’s essentially the same phone.
No. But i personally don't upgrade my devices for a couple of years. I like to make phones last. You know, a thing we use to do back in the day
I have a 4 and will only trade in if I get a good deal like I did with the 4.
I got the 4 with budpro2s and the watch5pro for about $492 after Rakuten rebate. But they'll also have to give me a samsung ring also within this price range. Lol
I wanted to go from 3 to 6, but seeing specs made me go Oneplus Open. After 2 weeks of using it, i laugh at fold 6 everytime i see that pathetic outer screen lol
Yep, will be upgrading. I do every year and actually quite like the look of the upgrade. Another iterative improvement, but it'll make it much nicer to use daily.
I'm considering. But only if the trade-in makes it less than $500. I really like the squared off design and wider front screen. I also like the idea of starting off with a fresh new folding screen.
