My opinion is that GTA 6 will be a hallmark game from the current traditional era of gaming. I think things are going to become a lot different within the gaming world due to the growing reach of AI. GTA 6 will probably be classified as one of the furthest developers took a game before AI became the main stay and the all-consuming piece of game development. It will be looked back on with a ton of nostalgia similarly to how people cherish fun, yet simpler games, like playing Pac-Man instead of Dark Souls.
I think GTA 6 will be a defining game before a new era of gaming begins
What patents?
There is a couple to do with AI mostly aimed at how traffic and NPCs react to the environment and player. I've also seen a rumour of one that will randomly generate interiors but I doubt thats legit lol
Yeah, to add on, i remember there was one regarding a dynamic animation system as well as a system that allows Police to use CCTV cameras in game to track the player (Lucia/Jason) location
Feel free to prove me wrong but I'm fairly sure the former was about AI in the traditional sense, not machine learning type AI - the latter I'm pretty sure was some goofy reddit post made by some random person.
I'm not sure to be honest dude I've not done tons of research into it but I've ripped this from a article and it says pretty much the same thing I've read everywhere else in regards to the AI patent.
"Based on the patents, GTA 6's NPCs will react to what's happening around them, which will influence their responses and animations. So if you do something weird, onlookers won't just stand around pointlessly. They will comment on your actions and maybe even stay away from you. "
The latter - yeah, I'm pretty sure that's come from Reddit and various youtubers it's one I want to be true, but I doubt it will be. They supposedly want to add procedural generated interiors instead of hand crafted ones or something along those lines
Patents are publicly available documents, you can find them here: https://ppubs.uspto.gov/pubwebapp/static/pages/ppubsbasic.html
Just type Take-Two as Applicant name and you'll see all their patents.
Yeah, the former is def just AI in the sense of artificial intelligence.
That is nothing new. Rdr 2 has that, if you cause a lot of trouble in a town the npcs will remember that. I have a 300$ bounty in valentine and npcs constantly remind me that i caused a lot of trouble.
big bottom lady NPC with rotound features and big bottom
PUT IT IN THE WINTER DLC ROCKSTAR PLSS
One patent I remember is the animations system. There were PDF files showing how the whole system works to make character animations, like NPCs/Peds, feel a lot more realistic.
7 years? If only... :P
I don’t think it would be a good idea businesswise for companies like Activision to do
Cloud Imperium would disagree.
o7 Citizen
True, but they should hand over the reins to Rockstar as they are never going to get Star Citizen finished otherwise
Not a bad idea. Not a bad idea at all.
Star Citizen? I only know Galaxy Citizen… 🤣
I think this is exactly why GTA 6 or maybe another Rockstar game would be the hallmark of the old era. Once AI technology progresses to a certain point, all bets are off and companies and even individuals would start developing their own games that pale in comparison to anything seen today. Maybe Rockstar would still be a leader because while individuals use AI to make games that are three or four times more advanced than GTA 6, and other companies use it to make games that are 10 times more advanced, Rockstar uses the technology to make a game that’s 20 times more advanced.
There isn’t really a point in refuting your first statement, but there are definitely a few companies that spent longer than 7 years making a game. Like cyberpunk and ff15
I have a feeling we never get an RDR3 and instead Rockstar starts working on something completely different.
That would make me sad. Although could you imagine an open world pirate game developed by Rockstar 🤯
I kinda want a Bully, set in the late 90’s with a walkable/bike able smaller map that is heavily influenced by the “coming of age” teen HS movies of the era with all the cliques
Every single Studio is on GTA 6 so 6000/7000 employees jesus
Nah, I think their next game will be smaller scale, maybe Bully 2 or a new ip.
Patenting mechanics should be illegal.
There's absolutely nothing else they can do with rdr story. People have made videos explaining why it just won't work. That story is done. It would need to be something fresh. Like red dead revenge or something like that. But RDR is done. Making anything else relating to those 2 would hurt the series. That story was perfectly executed and time to say goodbye
Ye duh, it's like saying gta6 can't be done because gta5 story is done...
You're not understanding what im saying at all. RDR2 is a prequel to 1. No single gta 1-5 is a prequel sequel whatsoever. It's all its own story. Act man on YouTube broke it down very well and I will put money on them never making an rdr3. It will be something different. It will not be rdr3 for the sake of the name.
"Red Dead Redemption" is about Red Harlow from Red Dead Revolver. However, the title over the years has become kind of ambiguous (like GTA), so they can easily make a new story, with completely different setting and characters. As long as it is a western and a main character who seeks redemption, I guess...
The title is too big and too popular now for Rockstar to abandon it completely and risk creating something new. Like a pirate or medieval game etc.
Many installments have been. 3, VC, SA and 5 all broke new ground and set an unreachable standard for a long while.
Uh did you just forget the best one of them all, 4??
Technically, yes. although had I thought of 4, I wouldn’t have included it. I was around for the release of all of these and with 4 came… nothing. It was meh and the majority of people who think it’s good are young enough that it’s the first GTA they played extensively and that nostalgia is the only my reason they think it’s good. It feels far different than any other 3D GTA. It’s just fuckin depressing and boring. No game was trying to replicate that feel in that setting because it’s not appealing at all. Great, I’m a human trafficker with no personality and I’m going to love a shitty life where all I do is kill. I made money and now there’s nothing to spend it on. I take that back, I can buy turtlenecks and ugly suits but neither fit the play style the game forces upon me. Turd game
Not a good take imo, gta 4 stood out among all the gta games because it brought a fresh more realistic and gritty perspective, its story telling was layered and the gameplay mechanics were the backbone to what gta 5 became, the euphoria physics were revolutionary and as much as it was a limited open world game in terms of things to do, it definitely is one of the most immersive gaming worlds, a lot of people preferred its subtlety over gta 5’s over saturated and in your face parody that could take away the “real” aspect to the story and its character
I'm old enough to have played every GTA on release and this is just nonsense. When GTA 4 came out people were ecstatic. We used to just go to the shoreline and watch the scenery and the water because it looked bonkers for the standards at the time. Not to mention the physics and the story.
“Take”, in this case, being a synonym for opinion. Making your first sentence an oxymoron of sorts. But all is well. 4 is everything you described but those things are not what the 3D GTAs had been. Now if the whole series had been dark and foreboding with little comic relief and no real closure then it would be right in line with them and I’d judge it purely on the physics engine you mentioned. Which is good stuff of course but a good game it does not make. 3 was dark visually but that’s a limitation of the system at the time. It still wants you to laugh at it and it’s parody of the genre. Vice city is bright and goofy while parodying its genre. San Andreas gives a baby dose of sadness in the second cutscene but is arguably the goofiest one yet, while parodying its genre. Then you got the “stories” which are forgettable from the advancement-of-the-industry angle. Then there’s 4. The last time a major release came from the series, you could customize your character entirely (except skin color lol), you could make money in all sorts of ways and then, best of all, you could spend it. You could dress in 4 distinct different styles. Body types, fighting styles, different properties. You could customize cars. Cars, which are in the title of the series, should be a focal point of the game. Cars are not important in 4 at all. There’s a bunch of throwaway who cares cars and very few cool ones. The suspension you mention isn’t as diverse as you make it sound, it’s just different than the games before. Varying levels of body roll is essentially what you’re talking about.
The series should build upon itself, not take you in a different direction completely.
"3 was dark visually but thats a limitation of the system at the time"
gta 3 and vice city were released for the same consoles, like a year apart.. at a glance you may think that technical limitations may contribute to 3's tone, but you do realize that 3 and 4 take place in the same city, right? liberty city, parody of new york city?
look up pictures of new york and tell mehow much of it is sunshine, beaches and good times?
I think 4 had plenty of parody just like every other gta, must've just flown over your head.. i don't get whats great about cars without a little body roll either. take that away and you pretty much lost me.
Put simply, it was a step back. It did not build upon what had already been established as features. It definitely added some things, mainly euphoria, but why does that mean it can’t also have the things previous games had on lesser consoles
I don't know what planet you're living on man. anyone alive could tell you that the jump between san andreas to 4 was MASSIVE. i think u ought to go replay it maybe is my only advice. i'd bet money you weren't any older than 10 when 4 came out
oof, how backwards.. i was about 8 when i first played a little bit of vice city and gta 3, i was 9 when san andreas came out and played that extensively for the following years.. gta 4 was the new era of gta. gta 3, vice city, and san andreas (along with psp games), were all the same type of universe, built for ps2 gen systems.. gta 4 unveiling was huge.. and the atmosphere, the gritty dark, new york streets, it was beautiful. niko bellic is far from someone devoid of personality. his accent, the story of trying in america as someone born elsewhere, the dilusion of many claiming to live a luxory life when in reality are living in a roach infested apartment.. and most of all,the physics and the environment, how everything interacted.. i've spent countless hours just going back around one corner as fast as i could, to hit this intersection that acted as a jump and clear it to the other side.. the suspension of each and every vehicle was different and interesting.. people on the streeets had shit to say, the fighting system and just everything was overhauled.. and everything about 4 was just perfect
i really hope that it comes to be that 5 was the odd one out, and a step down from what they had produced just a few years before 5.. i played 4 non stop in my h igh school years, gta v i was inmediately unpleased with.. i played through it, of course, because it was the new gta, my favorite game series or whatever, but i didn't even have a desire to play it a second time.. i was busy in life shortly after when i graduated and did adult stuff for the next 5+ years, and then discovered gta online around 2019/2020 around covid.. and that provided me with a years worth of grinding, but i haven't touched it since cayo perico dropped, which i did grind out a lot, but for what reason... it's super repetitive and just the fact the physics are what they are leads to mundane, repititous playing.. i'd rather play with the glitchy swingsets again lol.
i think they'll find a mix between the two and it would make a bit of sense, especially if new york is one extreme, LA another, miami could be a perfect middle ground. but the more like 4 it can be, especially with physics, the better
You wanted to describe Nikos personality but you just typed out details of the plot. An accent and a home country isn’t a personality. His personality is I am man who is bad.
Perhaps you play videogames for a different reason than what I think to be the right reason. See I want to experience something new and different. Something unattainable in real life. If I wanted to get hit with a series of down endings, no money, friends and family dying, I’d just stay in reality. I get enough grey in my daily life. When I’m gaming I would like to be able to avoid that if possible. Okay, give me a plot that is a little more based in reality (a LITTLE) fine. I’ll deal with it but when I’m not doing missions you best believe I’m gonna be head canon top dawg. But 4 says no. You will wear your ill fitting track suit and wander around a grimy city with nothing to do. That’s not what rockstar had set up leading up to 4 but decided to go that way for a single game. I think the proof is in the pudding. They developed TLaTD simultaneously making 4 so it retains the dark feel and it sold like shit. They realized their mistake and tried to brighten up the bleakness with BoGT but it was too late and it sold like shit (relative to the series up to that point). And then the next game was as far from that as possible and is the greatest selling game ever.
I played GTAO from launch and it’s top 5 greatest time period of my life. I played it solid with my friends until about when you did. We burned ourselves out a bit grinding Cayo and a few of them left to play other stuff. I would log in every once in a while to spark some joy but my crew was down to 3 including me so I didnt progress much. During that time, I’d go to car meets or play user created games or some of the crazy races Rockstar was putting out. Still outstanding. A whole new experience that I would’ve paid for again. Then just recently I got GTA+ to replay LA Noire. Decided to get on GTAO to see what was new with the subscription. Not a ton but I already got my moneys worth getting to play thru badass LA Noire for $8. But the new content in general was actually insane. There’s so much. It’s like another game again. I say this all to say, five is the direction the series should’ve gone with four. It would be a seamless transition and there wouldn’t be the smudge on their track record that is the 4 we got.
And GTAV will tell you how rockstar feels about 4. The THIRD protagonist stomps Johnny dead before you even control him. It’s in the past, we’re done with it, this is GTA now and again. As it should have been the whole time. We apologize for wasting your time and money, please enjoy the Michael Bay of games. And to that I say, thank you so fucking much rockstar. You fuckin goat
gta 6 will save the industry
It will be the 2nd AAAA game
What was the 1st?
That Ubisoft pirate game.
Can’t wait until they release a AAAAA game for PS6
Let’s do away with this term, please.
or ruin it with new prices for AAA games
Every game will be $120 base model
Just because GTA would hypothetically be pricey doesn't warrant other games to be, GTA is miles above in quality.
Eh, not the end of the world tbh if it's a great experience that I'll own for years then I don't mind paying more.
You don't get it, GTA6 pricing will probably ruin economy of AAA games which are gonna be much more expensive while they will be trash like for example Ubisoft games who are telling themselves they made a AAAA game.
Give it up for day 3471 of baseless claims about how good GTA 6 will be. Tomorrow, get ready for another "GTA 6 will be the first AAAA game" post.
But that was skull and bones GTA 6 could never top that
I’m waiting for it to flop like cyberpunk did. Not saying it’s going to, (I’d be surprised if it did) but it could. People putting so many goddamned expectations on this game without any hard evidence of exactly how it’s gonna turn out. Something could go wrong at any point.
I don't think it will frop per se, but I absolutely agree with everyone having absoloutely massive expectations without any evidence or most people saying it who have never come close to being a game dev.
There's new era of gaming coming?
always has been.
There’s gonna be 2 new gaming eras before gta6 releases
Gta 7 will probably come out in 2037 - 2040
I’m just praying we get a spin-off game in between then.
Or rockstar does DLCs again but I doubt it
Nah this sub is wild☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
It might be but I also think we need to lower our expectations just a little bit. I’ve seen some absolutely insane theories about the game. It’s gonna be good but we need to be realistic about it. RDR 2 was good. GTA 5 was a downgrade. If they stick to how RDR 2 was then we will have a great game but if they go back to how gta 5 was I’m concerned
Agreed, Most likely it will be the largest handcrafted game that will ever be made
Hope r* wont screw up the online mode. But they probably will
That’s their priority. It’s why the game was made, and where all the money is. If GTA online had failed with TGA V, we’d have seen part 6 a decade ago
If GTA Online had failed with TGA V, we'd have seen part 6 a decade ago
How could that possibly even happen? Lmao
This time, everybody in the lobby can see your real name, address, income, previous partners, and education level without using any cheats
Nah, with the way they handled it the first time they're probably gonna put even more enphasis on online mode.
They won't
1000%
Gonna be the biggest game of the next 10 years along with ES6/FO5 in the years following
ES6 is still using the Creation Engine so I wouldn’t count on it.
Oh no. This-this can’t be
Yeah I hope Microsoft gives Fallout to another studio to do something fresh. The last thing I want is the same old Bethesda formula in the same old engine, it’s been long enough to reinvent things.
I'm excited I just hope it's not another Starfield or 76
A GTA game being a "defining game"?
Someone stop the presses!
I hope you are right but I have my doubts. Game studios seem to be getting lazier and lazier and I have a real strong suspicion it will be Gta V with slightly better graphics. I really don’t think they are going to introduce anything revolutionary or era defining. I hope I’m wrong.
The Sopranos kickstarted the second golden era of television, Grand Theft Auto 6 will kickstart the second golden era of gaming.
Dude seriously. Play rimworld. Only games I love are GTA Rdr2 the last of us and crash bandicoot but duuuuuude rimworld is fucking FUCKING FAAAAAARKING awesome
The only thing that can beat a Rockstar game is another Rockstar game.
Think when u can play it inside vr hopefully they get that released pretty soon after it’s release date
Every post I’ve seen online about AI has said, almost word for word, “It’s not much now, but think what it can do 10 years from now!” The magic moment when AI isn’t shit is always ten years away, and will still be ten years away ten years from now.
As we speak, AI continues to advance. There probably won’t be a magic, “Ah-ha” moment, but more like a snowball that continues rolling along a snow path, causing it to get bigger and bigger. Even today, there’s people who can use AI for plenty of components within their job that they couldn’t do just a few years ago. That will continue to build and build over the coming years.
I think so too. I think we are at the tail end of story driven single player sandbox games coming out in physical media and sequels coming out periodically. It’s going to be server based games with continual updates and in game transactions finding them. There’s never going to be a Roblox 2, it’s always just going to be Roblox until video game trends change so much it dies. Same will happen to GTA, COD, Gran Turismo, all the sports games, countless games. Subscription based multiplayers and you pay for everything. How many people who play GTA online spend real world money to hoard in game items they never use? Just to have it.
It will be a pivotal moment. Also one where video games should be priced by the content. If R* put a $199 price tag on GTA6, you all would pay for it. Because we know exactly how much content we are about to experience and then some.
if gamers are going to pay $200 for a game then they deserve to be dunked on by gaming companies. i am never going to pay more then $60-70 for a video game.
If anyone pays over 70 dollars for the standard edition they are plain stupid
I agree, but if the standard is raised, you have no choice but wait 5-8 yrs for sales.
AI is decades away from being anything but a supplement for game developers. And if you don't think the R* pipeline doesn't already have those AI tools integrated into it you're high...
AI is decades away
Decades might be a bit long. I expect that we will have full-blown AGI in less than a decade, so if that happens, anything past that point will be very difficult to predict
AI is decades away from being anything but a supplement for game developers.
Don't lop off half the sentence to try to give more credibility to what you're saying... Anyone who thinks AI is going to do anything but supplement game development pipelines for the next decade or two are either not versed in how AI works or not versed in how game development works... There's not a model out there that can generate primitive 3d models that are optimized enough to use in games at this point, and that's pretty much on the lowest side of the complexity scale for game development...
AI will make its way into games through shit like texture generation and aiding on photogrammetry. or other development tools, and it has already been there in some capacity for four or five years now. But this insinuation that AI will vastly change how games are made over the next decade is insanely naive to how complex game development is lol
AI improvement is exponential.
Every technological advancement in the world is exponential... There's not some magic secret sauce that makes AI special in that regard. And, we know that every Ai expert that doesn't have a vast stake in a company whose value balloons on convincing people AI is some magic thing that is going to instantly come alive at some point thinks that an AGI will be about 25 years from now. Sure, Sam Altman is telling you it's right around the corner, but he also has billions of reasons to give you a super optimistic, unrealistic estimate for that...
What we know right now is that AI struggled to generate usable 3d models. That, again, would be one of the most basic and least complex portions of game development in terms of AI making games... And then the complexity scales the more layers you add to each other...
Personally, I think we’re way closer than decades away. But, I don’t mean Rockstar isn’t using AI tools already, I mean next level AGI or better technology that currently isn’t around but will be in the not so distant future.
Anyone who is even using the term AGI right now is getting their information from AI hype men whose fortune revolves around selling the short term potential of AI to the masses.
They have to provide some substance, or else the shareholders lose money.
No they don't, they have to convince you and the shareholders there is substance... Which is why tech runs a stock p/e ratio that is double and triple other industries... Because they have the ability to sell people on the future way before it happens.
They’re already using AI to generate tons of interiors with objects they’ve hand crafted. There’s apparently a ton of interiors we can visit in VI
That’s a nice argument Senator, why don’t you back it up with a source?
An article was posted here a few week back. I’ll try and scrounge it up for ya
Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/GTA6/s/Vr5eIfiASG
https://gtaforums.com/topic/994170-interiors-in-gta-vi/
Here ya go buddy
I guess we'll have to wait for the game to come out because neither of these are sources.
How are they not? All major gaming outlets posted about it?

You must be dumb or lazy af
The NPCs are gonna be more detailed than the actual main characters of gta V like Trevor, Michael.... etc. Hope they improve the physics like wobble and jiggle of bodyparts ifyk what i mean lol.
Hopefully they integrate AI to dumb NPCs.
Seeing people who know nothing about game development or ai development make posts like this are funny 😂😂
What's gpt5
Chat gpt
And the major thing will be needing a subscription to play online
lol this post sounds like it was written by AI
Well, it was not.
There's no other gaming company that can afford to spend 7 years on making one single game, lol.
In addition, Rockstar has patented like 10 different mechanics and systems, which we will only see in GTA6.
There will be nothing else like GTA6 for a long long time.
What I'm seeing next is Rockstar making RDR3 next, which might come in 2031-2033. These 2 games will keep us entertained until most of us die here of old age
