The Langoliers 1995
I'm convinced that anyone that tears paper up into little pieces is as buttfucking crazy as Balki
YES!! I’m 37 and I still have that scene of him with an O-face as he’s tearing paper. Creeps me the fuck out.
Tears in his eyes
He needs Adderall and Xanax.
Dont be ridiculous!
…to Achmel Foley
Now we do the dance of joy yes?
Don't be ridiculous
🤣
SCARING THE LITTLE GIRL!?!?!?!
i heard this comment
Literally it's the only thing worth remembering out of the whole thing.
LADY!
Those flying CGI shit balls were laughably terrible. Almost as terrible as the hyper cheesy freeze frame ending: “we’re the new people!”
Honestly this adaptation is unforgettable.
The movie and concept is amazing, but yeah, when the Time Critters finally show up, I laughed at how terrible they looked
I remember watching this (on Netflix way back when I think?!) and thinking how they articulated the dread of the Langoliers. I felt scared, anxious about it…..then they showed up….lost all meaning and fear.
Absolutely the same. I listened to the audiobook and the dread these things instilled was real. Then I saw them in this and was like ...🤦🤦🤦
Angry Teethed Testicles.
They grew tails and showed up again in Dreamcatcher as the shit weasel parasite
YEAH!
I actually really liked this story.
The movie wasn't great, but I have fond memories of this.
I totally agree. The story was really interesting and I think about it all the time. But even as a kid I thought the effects and acting wasn’t stellar.
Same here. Haven't seen it in ages but still remember it. Like most Stephen King horror, the ending/actual monster is a let-down but the buildup and ominous atmosphere is really good. Loved Pinchot's performance.
I felt that way about Golden Years. Fun concept IMHO but suffered from terrible execution.
The basics of this movie was actually very good. The atmosphere was very spooky. But the Stephen King self insert character was absolutely annoying, and the CGI monsters at the end were awful even for the time. But I actually liked the rest for what it was.
I’ll never forget watching it as a a kid when it came out and being so underwhelmed by the monsters
My first impression was looking at them and thinking “…. They are Pac Man!”
This movie was an early lesson for me that the journey could sometimes be way more enjoyable than the destination.
I liked it
Me too, this was actually the first time I watched the movie before reading the book. Book was still better 😄
Forgotten? I bring this movie up at least once a month
My family has inside jokes about this movie. The first one is pronouncing "Craig" as "Creeeg" Toomey. The second is anytime something cheesy happens we go "Daisies! I'm talking about Daisies!"
Horrible script that's earnest portrayal by decent actors made for great family bonding.
For real, I love this. It was part of my childhood for some odd reason i just always watched it when it aired on TV. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. I need to read the book at some point
I had this memory of flying balls that ate things and a plane taking off as the balls ate the universe. I only found out it was this thanks to a reddit comment a month ago.
Shocked it was made by a real network. The CGI was so bad, even under 10 year old me in the late 90s - early 2000s assumed it was a Sci-Fi original. Stacked cast too
Uhhh is this the only version of this series? Like they didn’t even bother to use David Morse on the poster art? Wtf? He was the main character.
I was fourteen when this premiered and was SO excited…and a HUGE violent thunderstorm knocked our power out during the airing of part two, if memory serves.
And I had such a crush on Kate Maberly after “The Secret Garden” and this.
I was 13 I remember watching it on TV when it premiered
This miniseries right here had peak Bronson Pinchot: I cannot be convinced otherwise.
I came here to say this he was brilliant
When Stephen King complains about how his work being adapted to screen turns out shitty, this miniseries is Exhibit A.
The cigarette tastes stale.
"B is for BUM!"
I was 13 when this came out. 8th grade. Talking about the murder meatballs was all the rage for a week. Despite being the picked on nerd in class, I could get some laughs out of tearing paper and looking creepy. Still, this really ruined Perfect Strangers for me, lol.
It was bad but I still enjoyed the concept. Also, I was not prepared for an asshole Balki
Long overdue for a proper cinematic re-do.
Cousin Larry, I scare the leeettle girl! Let us do the dance of joy!
Free on YouTube btw
“Her dead blind eyes!” A quote by Frank Toomey.
We all look like monsters to him
This thing was crap, but I loved it, and still do. I was just talking to my buddy about this the other day.
I love this I miss the days of Stephen kings tv series/ movies.
Sam Pancake reviewed this on his podcast. I recommend listening to jt. Sam is an openly gay man and the show can be off-color, but he’s really funny and interesting IMO.
Any vehicle for Dean Stockwell, is a-ok in my book.
Wow, a nose hold!
I used to make my younger brother cry by chasing him around the house whispering snap! Crackle! Pop! Until he would start crying because the blind girl said it sounded like Rice Krispies. Good memories.
You sound like my older sister, but she would be right by the door to my room singing, " Tommy knockers Tommy knockers knocking on my door." She still does it sometimes, and we're in our thirties.
The Nostagia Critic review showed this scene and then followed it up with the Rice Krispies jingle being played in the cloudy background. Hilarious
I absolutely loved this as a kid. Now I need to watch it again. Totally had a crush on the blind girl plus watching "Balki" go insane was fun
My brother, Craig, hates this movie
Creeg?
this is an amazingly bad movie... me and my dad used to laugh at the scene where the quantum leap dude is looking around frantically saying "THEY EAT IT!!"
I bet the guy in the back makes a mean espresso.
Toaster in the pillow case 👍
This was the first miniseries I remember hearing abiut presented as an event. Never did watch it
Dean Stockwell saying “We are in the past”. Bronson Pinchot absolutely chewing the scenery. Lots of tension building up to a climax with CGI that was far less than great at the time. Peak 90s Stephen King miniseries.
Movie is a fever dream
SCARING THE LITTLE GIRL???!!!!
this was griping as a child!
I saw the movie after reading it in… Four Past Midnight? But it must have been a re-run. It was closer to 1999. Or maybe I’m just not remembering right. I liked it. Did its best to stay true to the material. For a TV movie anyways.
Oh and let's not forget "Al" from quantum leap!
This was one of those movies I saw parts of as a kid and as an adult I couldn't remember if it was real or just some insane lucid dream I had at some point. I finally discovered it again years later and while it's incredibly cheesy and goofy at times, I do honestly think it's somehow kinda interesting and cool. I would not call it good, though. And that CG is unforgettably bad.
Something about this movie gives off the perfect liminal / nostalgic vibe of the 90s... especially in the empty airport.
Chainsaw-toothed 3D Pacmen
The paper tearing oh lord the paper tearing
I was so excited about this movie because the short story Stephen King wrote was amazing. One of my favorite stories. I guess my high expectations made this movie no good for me. Everything I had pictured in my head did not match what was put on screen. Same with Dreamcatcher. The Green Mile and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption were spot on to the books.
This is gourmet network television horror cheese.
I still remember watching this on my little ass TV in my room. I loved this movie, despite all the cheese and bad effects.
I thought I was alone in this … I’ve watched this movie once when I was 10 . And never have again .
This movie was so 90's, it's honestly one of my favorite SK adaptations though.
The guy on the top right is probably a member of the Banking Clan
How did that move end again? They refueled, took if just in time as the runway was getting eaten. Then what happened? Was it a wormhole they flew into or something?
Yes, a rip in time/space or some shit. One of the survivors had to sacrifice themselves by staying awake to pilot the plane back through the tear
This movie definitely needs a remake.
This movie was so bad that it has been a running joke in my friend group for almost three decades.
I'm surprised this one never got a remake
Cheesy as hell but loved it.
I love this movie! I watch it and “The Stand” back to back quite often while working.
This shit scared me so bad as a child
Classic TV movie.
I watched this with my dad when I was around 10. Really interesting story but it gave me nightmares.
Loved this one! Wasn't for kids, but I didn't care! Loved this and The Stand.
I love this one! Also just rediscovered Something Wicked This Way Comes - both great movies.
Damn! I knew this was a thing! I thought I’d imagined it for years. Also have memories of another one about a Maine fishing island with the devil on it or something.
I'll never forget how weirdly creepy cousin balky suddenly got.
I think about this movie all the time. Covid was a similar experience.
Such a great book and series. I think about it often.
The ending is so corny. Freakin freeze frame. Those who died, did their next of kin get contacted? Did they tell anyone about this?
Man, I did not like this. I avoided the novella for years because of how much I didn't like this. I ended up liking the novella when I finally read it, though.
This freaked me out as a kid.
Because of roses!
That awful cereal sound!
God this was painful to watch
Maybe the most impressive cgi I have seen in my life… But seriously those mouth monsters scared the bejejus out of me when I was young😂
The meatball pac-men CG were laughably bad, even by 1995 TV standards.
Kimber Riddle's pokies and those shorts kept my rigid interest for the entire show though. Too bad she kind of dropped out of Hollywood with only 6 credits to her IMDB.
It was a fun watch. I remember reading the book there was mention of a stat there that Ted Williams I think got on base 14 times in a row. Apparently that's incredibly rare. Not 14 hits in 14 games but being on base 14 times in a row.
I worked at a busy airport as a summer job in college on 9/11, quarter school didn’t start until late September. I was at work that day when all flights were grounded. What was usually a loud chaotic tarmac with constant motion instantly became deserted, still, and silent. It was one of the eeriest things I’ve ever experienced. Couldn’t help but constantly compare it to the Langoliers.
This movie is the reason I am afraid of flying and the reason why I always check behind doors when I enter a room
Son of a B
I was home sick with food poisoning or some kind of stomach flu when I was a kid and this premiered on ABC. I'd watch it in the dark between fever dreams. It made the whole thing 10x weirder.
I could not get into this. That was Balky and Al.
I remember when this premiered. Part one had my whole family intrigued. It all fell apart in the second half. 😆
I was TDY visiting the Maine ANG and I saw the set in the hangar. They filmed at the Bangor Airport.
I watched this movie as a kid and something about it stayed with me. I've thought about it randomly over the years.
Movie wasn't terrible. I remember watching it late one Saturday night with a high school buddy. We had beer and snacks. It was a better time.
This was an awesome multi-part TV movie.
I read this book (or was it a story?). Equally forgotten.
Masterpiece.
This was when I realized people are just throwing money at Stephen King
It sucked.
Man, this was bad.
This one deserves to be forgotten. It was so so bad.
The book and the movie are equally terrible IMO. Kings short books just don't do it for me. They take forever for me to get into
Important reminder: This is a sub for people to post about forgotten TV that they remember and would like to share with others. This is not a tip of the tongue style sub for people to search out old shows that they would like help remembering.
