Is high end fluorocarbon a scam? Am I meant to respool bi-weekly?

To start off, I use the same fluorocarbon on my reel’s spool for at least 3 months.

I’ve used Seaguar Tatsu, Sunline Shooter, and Varivas AAA. They’re all really nice during the first week, but after that first week they all end up coiling the same as $10 Seaguar Basix.

Some do have slick coatings on them. However, after that line gains memory and coils when slack. What’s the point of a slick coating then? Whenever that happened to me I felt like I was using Basix again. Which is fine, I love Basix. However if I want Basix then I would’ve paid $10 for it, not $30-$50.

So to sum up my point. Why buy a $50 spool of line to have that line end up performing the same as $10 line after at most 2 weeks?

I just toss on FC leaders. Everything is superfine with FC leaders except a few crank bait rods with mono.

On spinning or baitcaster? Ive been running Tatsu and Mastiff this year on my BC and haven't had any problems... Much better than my experiences with cheaper fluoro. On my spinning I've had the same spool of Spro Gouken on since last summer. It had some issues when I first used it, but it has settled and has been fine. I don't use it often so it sits, but haven't had memory issues.

bait casters. There are no problems such as backlashes or whatever. My problem is that the tatsu or other high end line will end up performing the same as my cheap line. As in the memory is virtually the same after a week or two.

Just use it as a leader to braid and you shouldn’t have an issue. Imo the high end fluoros don’t seem to be made for mainline.

I like the higher end stuff more for being stronger/abrasion resistant and limper compared to cheaper lines. And how its less likely to dig into itself and cut on the spool.

What pound test are you typically using on your baitcasters... Both in expensive or cheaper lines?

I've had the same Invisx spooled up on my crankbait rod for 3 years now with zero problems. Are you using spinning gear?

Bait caster. Yeah I can probably go very long before I get the feeling that I need to change line. My issue here is that the high end fluorocarbon ends up performing the same as my cheap fluoro after about a week or two. Therefore I might as well have used cheap fluorocarbon the entire time. Wondering if anyone else felt the same way.

Not sure then. Once I found Invisx I never felt the need to step up to the more expensive stuff.

If you're talking about a baitcaster, then you're doing something wrong, people commonly get season or two out of a spool full of good fluoro. The only stuff I change regularly is like 7 pound and below because it's so easy to damage it trying to retrieve a snag.

Yeah I’m talking about bait casters. Yeah I can get a season out of most fluoros. My issue is that my high end fluoro ends up performing the same as my cheap fluoro. Was wondering if anyone felt the same way.

You're not alone, use it for a couple weeks on either type of reel and the line memory is a little much for my tastes. I'm a little picky about line memory and stick to flour leaders on my braid mainline. I feel like the higher price flouro the better abrasion resistance but that's just what I've seen

Fluoro is a waste of money. It’s expensive for one pro. Many cons to count and not worth it. Trilene big game mono and P Line is what I like.

I’m surprised you’re not downvoted for being correct. I thought you had to spend $60 for line on one baitcaster to get upvoted here.

I agree. I just can’t like fluoro, and I’ve tried Invizx, Sniper, and Tatsu.

Big game for treble hook top water, yo-zuri hybrid for cranks, braid for everything else.

I hate FC. I only use it in a few circumstances, when it actually makes a difference in how a lure works/acts. Otherwise copolymer (Yo-Zuri) or plain vanilla mono when I need a leader. Fluoro is not good for the environment, even "good" ones turn into springs and end up tangling or just falling off the spool. The only accessible trout where I live are stocked, which I don't bother with and bass and panfish really don't care about fishing line.

I agree with this completely. There’s a ton of other things that would affect whether or not a fish hits before the visibility of fluoro vs mono comes into play.

Are you spooling it on the right direction? Also, I spray my line heavily when coming off the spool. Lots of good stuff , kvd line conditioner, and reel magic in a can. Depending on how small the spool of line is, it will also do this. All of my line is always a minimum of 600 yards. Small leader line or simply low on a 150 - 300 yard spool will coil badly as well.

Maybe you’re spooling it backwards from the direction it was coiled on the spool? Also have you tried line conditioner? I’ve had fluoro on a few of my casters for over a year with no memory and it isn’t even the expensive stuff

I bought some overpriced Seagar once, put it on my only non braided set up ,my worm rod, with a spinning reel, I didn't like it at all. I been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid, Just grabbed a box one day cause I didnt even know they made line, works great for a spinning reel and Senkos anyway. I spooled up the Steez casting reel with it once , but went right back to braid on that.

Braid to fluro leader. Tie FG knots they're easy.

I’ve been running 20lb Tatsu on 1/2 of my bait casters and I have not had a single issue

Bad spool I guess cuz it’s got low memory casts great and is strong, I use a palomar knot and never have any issues.

That's one of the worst lines I've ever used. Maybe I got a bad spool but that shit was horrible.

You are spooling it up wrong. The line is put on 1 direction and you need to take off in the opposite direction to stop the coil... OR you can fill up a pot with HOT water and a lid that has a hole in it. Feed the line through the hole and spool. Also a lot of people put their line on way too tight, make sure you aren't. spooling with a lot of resistance.

I run sunline FC sniper with no issues on 80% of my rods. The others have braid/fluoro leaders.
