I wondered if anyone’s diagnosis or symptoms coincided with you not tolerating wearing a bra. Mine did. They hurt. Moved to a camisole
It’s amazing to me that I ever wore underwire bras and tried to look sexy. Hugs 🤣
I'll be 59 next month. I have not worn a bra since my early 30s. Pretty sure the last time I wore one was my wedding. He didn't last. Neither did the bras.
Sorry about both.
That's okay I don't miss him. And his lack of empathy. And I do not miss my bras. Free the boobies....
Right? I do Pilates in a light cross body bra, totally not a traditional bra. It comes off right after my shoes when I get home!
omg yes. I'm braless all the time now
Isn’t it odd that so many doctors don’t ask this? I almost went into medicine, and surveys of patients would inform my practice
I always want to have my bra off-sometimes my skin feels like sunburn, but almost always have it on during the day if I’m around other humans. Just recently got reusable silicone self adhesive nipple covers (I got the Nippies brand, but there’s a lot of them), and absolutely love them. Best of both worlds, no bra and no show.
I’ve ordered them but not tried them.
They’re pretty great. Plus they don’t bother my sensitive skin, so yay 😊
I haven't worn a bra in 16 years
I swear to God they don’t just hurt—they really hurt! 😔
:( I will never wear another one again in my lifetime it hurts to bad.
I understand completely. It’s awful
When I first saw rheumatology he said to me "let me know if you get intolerant of your bra" this was before the fibro diagnosis. Man he wasn't kidding. I can't do it. if I have to keep it on when I get home cause someone is stopping by or I have to go back out my whole mood is effected. I get very nasty. I can't stand any kind of snug clothing either. Everything has to be very loose.
Wow. He was ahead of his time
He's young and very progressive. Him and my gp keep me sane. Every other doctor I've had to see has me wanting to punch something.
Say what? To test arm strength? Lol oh you didn’t mean the tests 🤣
I've been wearing bralettes for years. Anything else is too painful to wear
I have come to the point where I’m wearing sports bras all the time because I get support, but they’re a bit more comfortable.
I don’t wear bras if I can help it and I’m busty 😂 corsets oddly enough can feel wonderful!
Can you describe the pain? I’ve stopped wearing bras for years now and just wear bralettes. I didn’t realize this was a common thing?
I genuinely cannot go braless. I desperately need a breast reduction and, even though I've lost a ton of weight, I'm still a 30 DDD. With the weight loss it's like I'm hauling around tennis balls in a pair of socks. The only bra I can tolerate is a merino wool bralette from Branwyn. After I get (and heal from) a breast reduction I'm going to only wear a bra to work out.
I wear a 54D and I understand where you’re coming from. At this point I don’t care if someone stares or makes a comment about me being braless in public. They’re not the ones carrying the extra weight or feeling the pain. If my boobs sag because they’re big at least I know they’re the real deal and not enhanced./s
It's less an issue of public decency and more an issue of going braless hurts more than wearing the damn bra (which still hurts!). I recently lost over 100 lbs and that left my boobs still relatively large, but extremely saggy. There's zero natural support and they basically flop everywhere when I go braless, which hurts like hell. I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't.
Oh, I hear you. I’m in the same boat so I chose the braless route since I’m going to hurt either way. Plus, when I wear bras it weighs down my shoulders and I can barely hold my neck up.
Bras hurt bad now?
Bras hurt quite a bit, but what hurts worse is lugging around big boobs that have no support or compression.
I understand. Never had more than a 40 c
Burn the bra!
I haven't worn a bra in many years because of the pain. Now I wear loose crop tanks under shirts when I go to work so they aren't flying all over the place.
I wonder if doctors consider it. Mine did
I only wear them when at the gym. only
I am large breasted, so I don’t feel comfortable without one. I had to get mine custom made. They are stretchy and of a bamboo cotton blend. No snaps or buttons. I love them, but I do take them off every evening.
Do you mind sharing your supplier?
Heavenly Body Wear on Esty. The merchant’s name is Theresa Green. I’ve been buying from her since 2016. She also makes all of my clothing, as I cannot abide elastic, zippers or buttons, nor certain types of fabrics.
YES YES YES!!! Its a huge pain trigger
So jealous of and supportive of the ladies who can actually go without a bra. I'm an insufferable 34H/I cup and if I try to go without a bra it's literally a matter of feeling my breast tissue trying to tear if I move even a little too much outside of normal stationary desk work. Not to mention my back will complain horrifically without the weight redistribution that bras offer. After all, it's at least 7lbs of weight between both breasts (wife held them up for me on a scale one day) so it's not surprising that it's nearly impossible without a bra.
And before you scream for a reduction surgery, I am torn about doing it. Between the horrible body dismorphia I'd get from my body proportions looking weird after that (cuz ofc my hips are also huge), the fact that I'm the only person in the house working and the main person taking care of general chores, and because I'm just not sure I want to go through a big multi-month recovery surgery at this stage in my life, I'm putting the decision off.
Doesn't stop me from having red welts every night when I finally take off my bra to go to bed or wanting to scratch my skin off when I get a little too hot and the bra shifts ever so slightly. But like always, it's just another layer of pain and annoyance that we live with day in and day out. If yall have some of those custom sites where you got your bras made though, I'd be willing to check them out!
buhhh I wish this was an option for me! I'm too big in the chest to go bra-less in public, especially in this heat. I've taken to wearing just sports bras while at work and out for groceries, but the moment I get home, I whip it off like it's gonna burn me to have it on a moment longer.
I hate bras too. I love the silicone nipple covers. I had a pair though that eventually lost their stick after lots of use. Was out walking my dogs with my husband and he pointed one out in the driveway. I felt for the other one and it was missing too. Probably some dude found it out in the neighborhood and was like WTF is this😂 They are awesome. They don't normally fall off but this pair I had probably worn 100 times. Wash with soap and water.
That’s a great idea! My dog would chew it up if I dropped it 😆
Oh mine would too if they found it 🤣
I hadn’t worn one since I’m a teen. I hate it. Hate it. Hate it. Recently gain weight for the first time and my boobs are super heavy so I feel like having to wear sometimes because I get sweaty and irritated under them and I can’t express in words HOW MUCH I HATE IT lol
I understand that. I can’t even tolerate the elastic in the camisoles with a built in shelf bra anymore, and I used to wear them when bras became painful. Fibro sux.
Right?! I dont know how many times I change blouses when at home cuz I get discomfort from choosing ones with elastic or a certain tightness to it… uhhh sux indeed
Right? No wonder my female cousins only wear large t-shirts. They comfy. I go straight to PJs
I did YEARS after diagnosis simply because of working. Now that I work remotely AND live very rurally, no bra is the rule!
I found one that I could stand Hanes signature Invisible Embrace® with SmoothTec* Fabric
Thank you. It’s in my notes
Yes I've even tried bra extenders to make them a bit looser and it hurts the same! But I also have very small boobs so I don't really need bras lol if I really have to I'll wear those new type of nipple covers that aren't sticky or bulky.
Oh yeah. My ribcage especially
Yes! Interesting that some of us have that. That’s exactly it for me. Sorry if I didn’t express that clearly, but it has been helpful to read the comments
I bought a maternity sleep bra. It's very comfortable. The woweny bra is absolutely amazing, it's soft stretchy silky material that goes on like a sports bra so no hooks, no underwater but great support and feels like you aren't wearing anything
I stopped wearing bras this year. I couldn't take it anymore. I use tanktops (or I cut them to make them look like bras??), use those-- uh, nipple stickies if I wear something that might show them. Most thing I liked about winter is I'm always wearing sweaters haha. But summer, my POTS is upset and I can no longer cover up
i hate wearing bras. but unfortunately i am born to free the nipple forced to wear a chest binder </3
yesss. I found these bralet things that looks kinda like mens undershirts but are stretchy and cut just under the boobs instead of down to my waist. They have been lifesavers.
The only bras I wear are Bali wireless bras, they are super comfortable but still give support. I tried regular wired bras and couldn’t even wear them before I had fibro, wireless is the way to go.
Yeah they're the worsttttt. I havent worn one for 10+ years now and will never ever go back. If anything i wear a tank top under my clothes.
Useless without one, crap hurts too much
I wear bra only outside the home. It's a torture every minute. It hurts my shoulder, my ribcage, everything. Where I live, I can't go braless outside.
Only the comfiest sports bras for me
They feel suffocating most of the time. I mainly wear sports bras. I'm thinking of getting the adhesive type cover thing.
I RARELY wear bras anymore (and they are stretchy sports bra type). I am in the smaller size for boobs and my stomach is bigger than they are, so I don't see it as a necessary thing.
The pain and discomfort is not worth it to me just because some person who should just mind their own business doesn't like the poke of nipples. 🤣🤣🤣
People really need to stop taking boobs so seriously. Lol.
Free the boobies!
My boob are too big for a camisole.
Get a larger size
I generally wear the push up bra but on the bad days I use a sports bra. Due to all the breast pain I do need to keep wearing bras, less sore that way.
I’m surprised you can do it. You must be young
I truly understand! I cannot tolerate a bra at all, haven't worn one in at least 8 years. I wear soft tank tops under. No tags or scratchy. Being comfortable within my skin helps me. Gentle hugs to you. ♡
