So after about a year or two of not using the gym I decided to go today, I did a 30 min walk (average walking) I feel really good but now the pain is worse, I usually go for a 30 min walk (Pokémon go etc) so it’s not like my body wasn’t used to this. Anyone else have tips for preparing a workout? I’m exhausted now and my body is sore.
Commenting to follow. And add solidarity.
I've also recently started trying to workout. I'm doing a community center yoga class with people twice my age. It's a super mellow align and flow yoga once a week. I feel like I have the flu for 3 days following and had to skip this week because I could barely walk or leave the bed/bath for a couple days. Also SUPER fatigued.
As another poster said, I'm gonna keep doing it because I know it's better than not, but damn, it's rough sometimes.
I do use Ted's pain cream, take an Epsom salt bath (Dr. Teal's Muscle Recovery), in addition to ibuprofen. It helps me function during the middle part of the day at least. There's usually a heating pad following me around too. I've named it Dragon. He is my pet.
It bears mentioning I am also on ADHD medication which kind of helps with the fatigue. Stimulants like adderall don't work the same on me as other people (I legit take naps on it. Do NOT understand how other people use it to stay awake. lol). But the nonstimulant medication, straterra, actually wakes me up a little. I definitely notice when I forget to take it. I believe there are some people with fibromyalgia on medications like wellbutrin to help with fatigue, could be worth asking about if you aren't already taking something for that.
Pokemon most likely was distracting your brain.so the after effects weren't as bad.
I have experimented with various types of audio. I find jazz and deep breathing exercises give me less pain during and after my walks.
I’m super proud of you for getting out to the gym and doing that!! I only exercise for about 10-15 minutes + 10 minutes of yoga so maybe tone it down next time and work yourself up? Sorry I don’t have better advice but I want you to know you’re awesome for getting to the gym!!
Slow and steady OP. Honor your body. Rest when needed. I'm doing the same. My poor legs hate life. I medicate before working out. I limit my time to 30. I break down my walk, stretching into 15 min intervals. My set list is 30 reps.
I cannot stress enough: compression clothing, KT tape, and magnesium powder.
My shoes are soft soled and light. This is how I'm prepping to ski again.
Sometimes you can do really well for longish time periods thinking we’ve got it beat or understood and then major flare and plans get messed up and it feels like starting all over again Be patient with yourself try not to over push
I’ll be starting back at the gym soon post-surgery after a long period of being unwell/ on rest on and off. I’ve lost what feels like all my fitness and progress (in reality not quite).
This isn’t the first time I’m back at it again after a long time off. I go between weightlifting and swimming, I usually find the first 2-3 weeks I can’t go as much as I want as I need to rest between days. This time round I’m planning to go to every second day with no ‘set weekly schedule’ as that’s not how my body works. I’ll be giving myself permission to have a second day off inbetween where needed if I can’t do a lighter day, which would normally be pacing my laps more/a lighter stretching day. I also give myself permission to have a nap/rest when I get home if needed as I usually need that in the first couple of weeks when going back. Even though I feel sore after and exhausted, I find it’s worth me pushing through and helps with fibro overall. My understanding is it’s normal for someone without fibro to feel run down/exhaisted afyerward int he first week or two before they feel good after, so what I feel is an exaggeration of that.
Btw...are you using a treadmill or elliptical? I'm a big fan of the elliptical!
Treadmill. I find the elliptical too much for me :(
For some reason, I was nr er a fan of the treadmill. I was never a runner so I decided to try the elliptical. I became a fan of the elliptical.
Hard to say "( normally would probably recommend stretching but for me usually even just stretching without even a work out will leave me feeling ripped up and useless for a day or 2 after. I would say a normal 30 min walk is a great idea if U can everyday.
The only thing i can think of that feels good that doesn't leave me feeling destroyed after is rollerblading. It's a lot easier on the back, legs and hips than biking imo-- cause it's less pushing and more similar to jogging, you can keep good posture just standing instead of having your body all folded up. plus you don't have to push the weight of the bike itself, just your own weight.
I started doing yoga recently and I have the same question. I'm in so much pain that I literally cannot sleep.
When I had leg pain at night while I was pregnant I found that a quick warm shower did the trick, so that's what I tried just now. I learned that for me, if I have a hot shower and then end it with a cool to cold rinse I feel so much better, so that's what I did. I'll let you know whether it helps!
I hiked up a mountain yesterday w a friend took the wrong trail back turns out we were walking into the wilderness to nowhere for an hour and had to turn around wound up being a 4 hour hike through the woods😂I literally cant move
I'm sorry, I don't have any tips for you but I wanted to say that I hear you!!! I walk or use an exercise bike every day, and I keep waiting for it to get easier, but it's just not. It's been months, and every day, I still feel muscle pain, weakness, and stiffness after. It's like my legs are jello. It's so frustrating. I know exercise is good, so I do it, but man, do I feel like crap after. It does, however, seem to help with the fatigue.
I hope others can give you some helpful tips and I hope it gets better for you soon!
