Tbh I stopped caring about gaming opinions on the internet. People are becoming obsessively nitpickers and having a genuine and own opinion is rare.
It is so exhausting a made a post on the Starfield subreddit and some of the comments are unhinged. Everybody wants to focus on the hyper negative online - it is really sad.
I'm the same way ever since the console war back in the PS3 days.
I swear it's like a bunch of trolls boohoo and posting reviews about it just because it's not on their console, then the other side does the same thing in retaliation.
Like seriously.... ff16 6/10 not inclusive enough????? Probably didn't even play past Martha's rest or at all.
I think it’s even worse than the ps3/360 era. People nowadays act like a game is garbage if it’s not 10/10. I’ve play almost all major release this year and I would say they are all not perfect but I enjoy playing them all. Do people realise they can enjoy more than one game?
I've played so many games this year that I've loved that are probably like 8/10 on a good day. Sonic Frontiers was a blast through and through, but it had issues I couldn't get past. FFXVI is probably like a 8.5-9/10 for me, but I love it and think it's one of the better FF titles. Top 5 at worst. People see a 7 and go "oh you hate that game," like, no? 7 is average. A passing grade.
The console wars were 30 years ago and they were vicious.
I think it’s a 6/10 and it’s got nothing to do with how inclusive it is or isn’t.
Did you read my post at all? Slapping a score on a game for the sake of reviewing it and then providing zero explanation is not a review.
Ur comment would have been taken more seriously if u explained why.
Why are you so angry? So anyone that doesn’t like it is a troll? People bitching about inclusivity aren’t taken seriously anyway. 😂😂 but since you asked. Boring uninteresting story, dogshit side quests that aren’t worth the effort they take to do them, serious pacing issues, the stupid run before sprinting mechanic which is a holdover from the previous star ocean game, large but empty areas.
Not angry, more trying to drive home a point. A score without justification is a garbage way to review something.
Now I agree with u, the areas are empty, uninstresting, and boring. I also had an issue with the pacing of the game. The side quests are boring, I heard they're pretty good but there are too many stupid ones that I skipped the dialog and stopped caring. The sprinting mech is super annoying. The script is also a little bit much, I don't want to be an English major to understand Ultima.
But overall these are minor gripes. U can completely skip the side quests, which improves the pacing of the story by a lot.
Worse games overall have gotten better scores even with worse mechanics.
Is a 9/10 too much? Yes it's more of a 7 or 8. Better than most, but not the best.
Fair enough. I do feel people are jumping on people for thinking it’s anything other than spectacular. It’s not the best in the series by a long shot. My biggest issue with it is them basically gutting the RPG elements of it. Yes you can skip the side quests, but they should have had witcher 3 levels of depth. I was just disappointed in them I guess. The way they hyped it up to be this spectacular thing with all this depth and then just…yeah lol
I personally don’t feel these are minor gripes, but that’s just me, especially since these games live and die by their story. Tbh I couldn’t think of a single thing I genuinely liked about it and I hope it’s not the future of the series. Saying that though I seem to like all the FF’s people hate like 8, 13 and 15(even if the story in that was even worse than this lol)
This. It’s just triggered keyboard warriors who have some kind of blood feud with the developers of every big title. They’ll rant for a month or two until they move on to the next game. After that the communities will be at peace haha
If i have a conversation with gamers though voice chat on console, real life, basically anywhere except the internet I always have a pleasant conversation.
We chat about the game, crack jokes, have a great time.
Internet forum gamers is the complete opposite most of the time because no one enjoys shit. Forums are basically 1% who actually enjoy the game and want to talk about it and 99% nitpickers who need to tell you why the game you like is an abomination covered in feces.
How do you know the nitpickers aren't being genuine and forming their own opinion?
Because for some reason anything that isn’t a 10/10 is perceived by fanboys as a personal insult against them. I’ve seen it on here many times, calling XVI a 7/10 or 8/10 is seen as an insult. And that means it’s a great game.
Someone on the Starfield sub posted a pic of the level 10 achievement and as of this time yesterday it still says “6% of players for this game have earned this”.
Says a lot about how much people play something before lighting it on fire.
Agreed. Ppl can be insufferable about a new games when they first release. I swear, most of the time it sounds like the majority of most gaming communities don’t even like gaming. They just buy a game because of fomo and then blame the game for their parents never loving them.
Same here, also I tend to ignore all the overly obsessive criticism when a game has just been released. Those are the kind of people who are just actively looking for things to nitpick and hate on, when the people who actually like and enjoy the game seem quiet because they’re actually spending their time playing and enjoying it.
People these days have more of a reason to be negative and share that negativity publicly for validation, whereas we all tend to enjoy the positive things quietly so we can actually enjoy them without the negative Nancy’s ruining it for us. Especially since they have the tendency to gang up on you and downvote you to oblivion for saying anything positive, so it’s best to leave them to their seething ways.
If this were true then why did ToTK and BG3 not get this level of hate?
Same here. I regularly find myself getting downvoted into oblivion for simply not agreeing with OP or not engaging in a flame war. I love both games, hell I bought a series x for Starfield and don’t regret it.
Play the games you enjoy and if you want advice or thoughts on whether you should give something a go, try to get it from someone who isn’t wearing rose coloured glasses. All games have positives and negatives, and that’s not a bad thing.
Popping off hot takes for engagement is the meta of online posting now.
You have games that have been out for 1 day getting hated on and talking about not living up to the hype. It's ridiculous. Ffxvi it was extremely obnoxious
Starfield is like skyrim in that the real value of it will come with extended time it's impossible to really get a solid look before the game is even out. Even multiple reviewers said they want to give an update after spending more time with it
They need to stop being so insecure and just enjoy the game lmfao. FF16 one of the best games this year, couldn't care less what people say
i actually dont like ff16 all too much..but i also dont care what people say..and i have my opinions sure but usually will keep it to myself unless asked or in situuations like this where im explaining my pov.
like idc if its the worst game ever or the best game ever, people are way too fixated on other peoples opinions as me saying i dislike the game is going to make it overall worse for them.
you think its one of the best games this year, my opinion wont change what youve experienced, as it shouldnt
i have my opinions sure but usually will keep it to myself unless asked or in situuations like this where im explaining my pov
I dunno, based on your comment history you spend a lot of time downplaying this game in this sub. I get the sentiment of what you're saying, but you're also contributing to the problem. What's the point of sharing your negative opinion all the time? Your intent is for others to read it.
What's the point of sharing a positive opinion all the time? The intent is for others to read it.
What's the difference?
i dont care for the game much and most things i post about are my opinions on the game..sure im probably a bit overly negative but no one should care what i think anyway, this is a sub to talk about the game.. what i meant was rather going to other sources just to insult the game in places it doesnt belong.
which, unless asked. i dont usually do.
Exactly, you forged your own opinion, and you realized it matters to you and only you.
people care too much about others opinions for some reason
Lol yes. THEY need to stop being insecure. Not the redditors constantly whining about someone not liking their favorite game.
Ok lmfao
How is posting an opinion about a preference of a video game "being so insecure?"
But yeah, you definitely couldn't care less what others have to say... /s
I don’t lol
This is definitely not the best game of the year. It struggles massively from pacing issues. This game is still great, but some pretty amazing games have come out this year.
I never said it was. Also read my last sentence
Okay it’s not one of the best games this year
Edit: did lil bro block me so I can’t respond? Lmfao
Reddit user discovers he has an opinion.
Ouch, downvoted for honesty. Welcome to the ff16 circlejerk, lmao.
My two most anticapted games this year were Final Fantasy XVI … and Starfield.
And at the end ? I loved XVI, this is my first platinium game ever, played 115 hours and liked every minutes of it.
As for Starfield ? I started on Friday, this is my first Bethesda Game, and i truly like it so far.
So, as a conclusion, dont hesitate to contact me to know my most anticipated games in 2024, you’ll know months in advance the game that will create a lot of debate about « this is not good, that’s why » or « the medias are wrong ».
For whatever reason it’s just popular to hate on AAA titles now. As someone mentioned before it happened with Hogwart’s Legacy too and I guarantee it will happen with Spider-Man 2. Review bombing is to be expected and it’s so strange how much energy people put into anonymously hating something online.
Review bombing is super mega cringe but I don’t think people are just hating on AAA releases for the sake of hating. People just have different opinions, your favorite game might be a POS in my mind. But I also think gamer’s just expect more from AAA games because game prices are only getting higher.
Not all AAA titles tho. Armored Core 6 and Baldurs gate 3 have been overly positive
IMO, it’s because these games weren’t really « hyped » by their community pre launch. Games like FF XVI, Starfield or Hogwarts Legacy had huge expectations from community and medias (and that’s normal, their budget were huge)
Still, while some elements could be disappointing, these games are good, even really good in my opinion, but that’s just me
I disagree on that. Armored core 6 has been hyped by the whole of FromSoft community. Let’s not forget Fromsoft has a huge fan base and hardcore players and 2 of their last 3 games were GOTY. And Elden rings broke lots of sales and Twitch records for a being one of the hardest AAA game. So AC6 had lots of hype built up by the From soft community and at the end AC6 delivered on all front which is why their is so much positivity about the game.
Baldurs gate 3 I am not sure about the community but it has been talked a lot by the media and gamers in general. Many gamers have been already talking BG3 being GOTY months before it came out. The bear sex scene was the most talked about thing in media for a weeks and hyped the game up even more. I am not part of BG3 community but the media coverage of BG3 made me know about it months ahead and there was hype all over the gaming circle before BG3 release.
Plus Tears of the Kingdom was super hyped as was Red Dead Redemption 2. Both of which received critical acclaim from the majority of online forums. I mean just make a a good game and people will like it. It’s not a conspiracy.
Well, welcome to reddit and the modern internet, where essentially the people tend to get to a conclusion in bulk and then bully whoever disagrees. It's not just in gaming, it's anywhere
Honestly, some of the complaints for both are legitimate, but 88 is still a really good score. Worth putting a hundred hours in. I feel like games that hit past 90 or even higher tend to get game play from me for years
Exactly, both games deserve the score they got. Starfield isn’t as good as most of Bethesda’s other big RPGs, and ff16 isn’t one of the best ff games.
I have a feeling starfield will be at least a 90-95 game by the time all the dlc and bugs are out, but I don’t think any amount of dlc will fix ff16
Maybe I didn’t know scores change like that, I thought it was right when the game came out. But yes, assuming they fix a lot of stuff, not just bugs, but design choices, it should be ranked higher. And you’re right for FF16. There’s not really much they can do. As the game should have been baked longer to flesh out gear, maybe some mini games, and really fix the story pacing. Some of those thing I’m not sure they can just “add” with a dlc. That should’ve been done during development. Now I also know that they’ve said they couldn’t add everything they wanted to due to budget constraints, which is unfortunate, but doesn’t change anything.
I basically make it up for scores lol but some games deserve the score they got at the start but have been heavily fixed over time. For example cyberpunk 2077 or fallout 4.
Stop obsessing about reviews and game scores. Formulate your own opinion and stop the tribalistic comparisons, it's insufferable tbh
Based
Why the fuck are people treating a 88 like it's a bad score. And why the fuck are people so obsessed with scores
I don't know if I'm just not looking in the right places, but all of the "discourse" I've seen is people just criticizing the game. That's it. People are voicing their opinions, both good and bad, of the game while simultaneously enjoying it.
That's how FF16 went as well. You see very few people who actively hate the game, the whole "It's not a real Final Fantasy" crowd was incredibly small, I saw way more posts about how those people were wrong than I did see people with those actual sentiments.
Criticizing something doesn't mean you can't or don't enjoy something.
Criticizing and stating your own opinion is one thing and it's cool but giving a game a 1 out of 10 has nothing to do with criticizing.
Thats spreading hatred. No game deserves a 1 out of 10 unless it's literally unplayable.
But we've seen that with starfield with Ff16, hogwarts legacy I could go on and on.
Some ppl are just cowards that has nothing to do with opinion sharing
Alternatively, you could say giving a game a perfect 10/10 or GOTY title without careful consideration is just as reductive and harmful. It lowers the bar for quality if people willingly ignore obvious flaws in favor of maintaining that flawless impression of their favorite franchises. But yes, it’s absolutely ridiculous to give a game that low of a rating if you don’t have real talking points to back it up.
Some people have a really hard time giving nuanced opinions because they can’t fathom other people thinking differently. Which goes for everything in life besides games, really.
Massive gulf between discussing constructive criticism and just whining about perceived flaws (what I see happening now).
Just complaining about a bunch of stuff isn't helpful behavior. If someone behaved that way in real life they'd annoy everyone around them constantly, yet people think it's ok to act that way online.
As someone who has some problems with final fantasy 16 but would still give the game anywhere between 7.5 and an 8. I have to say there are plenty of complaints about Starfield that makes sense and seem reasonable to me. I have seen very few post on either sub reddit for either game where someone just out right says the game is trash. It's just apparently you aren't allowed to criticize or critique the games at all. so i think whats happening is one side of people likes the game way to much and can't except that it may have some faults. Then the other side is focused to much on the games faults and can't see that the game is still fun regardless. I think in the case of FF16 and Starfield both sides are correct.
I disagree. People clearly don't understand the English language anymore. Someone who posts a review should be REVIEWING the game. Saying it's trash is not a review. Reviews done by the average joe is like a grade school book report. This game is ugly 1/10
There’s just as many “Holy shit this game is INCREDIBLE!!” reviews. How are they helpful and why aren’t you criticising them?
That should have gone without saying? But since it didn't.... yes reviews saying it's awesome are also shit reviews. Would like to know why it's awesome.
This is becoming like Amazon star ratings or eBay... 5/5 would buy product again.... great thanks for giving me insight into anything real about the product.
Rule number 1 of buying products that get reviewed, never look at the 5 star or the 1 star reviews.
It’s every AAA game now. Here’s the algorithm:
Hype a new AAA game
Console fanboys argue
People enjoying the game
People with valid productive critiques
83-93 on metacritic week of launch
Review bombed 0’s and trolls on metacritic to bring score down
Review bombs deleted
End score 85-93
Those who enjoy it do, those who have nothing better to do use their time trying to tear it down on social media.
Repeat
Now explain why this didn’t happen for BG3, ToTK, ER, AC6, RDR2. You all act like you’ve figured it out, that everyone’s just mean but guess what? If a good game is released it’s recognised as a good game.
To be fair, there are more reasons to dislike starfield than ff16. FF16 actually improved upon previous entries and experimented. Starfield would have been a decent early ps4 game. It hasn’t really done anything new over previous entries. All it is is just big. Nothing else. Otherwise it’s the most basic Bethesda game
the people that didn't like it, want to let all the world know how much they didn't like it
That's just what it's generally like on the internet nowadays, not just for games
It’s just fallout in space. If you like fallout you like this one if you don’t then you won’t like this one. That’s my experience and I was expecting.
The people who actually played FFXVI generally liked it.
it’s because starfield is very very bland ,you have these huge barebone planets with about one little section that has stuff that’s actually worth looking at on top of that the combat engagements are very very mediocre at best.
I’ve played both. And man idk, after about 4 hours of starfield, I was legit bored and the engine feels severely dated which makes the whole game feel dated.
Characters feel stiff in dialogue and gameplay/gunplay feels very early xbox 360.
The game was also severely overhyped by Todd Howard making the game seem a lot more grandiose and expansive than it actually is.
after about 4 hours of starfield, I was legit bored
i have heard that the game gets good after 50hrs in lol.
That's a problem to me lol. If I buy a game that only gets good and fun after 50 hours....bruh.
Yeah exactly...compare it to this game where it OPENS with and the game makes a statement on it's size and scope
Like, you could experience every high and low point of FF16 by the time that game is supposed to finally be fun? Like wtf?
ff16 has its own problems...
starts out flashing, and by the time the demo is over, u want more.
by the time u play the game, it slowly starts dropping and dropping and dropping but u still have hope and then about half way in, it falls off a cliff.
false advertisement.
halfway in is the>! titan and bahamut!< fight, so if you think that was when it was falling off a cliff....it explains why you like starfield lol
lmao this guy thinks titan fight is good. rofl.
i said halfway in the game, guy. when the 5 year leap starts game went to shat. get over it. bahamut fight was the only highlight after that but that didnt stop the story from falling over a cliff.
starfraud is a snakesoil, rofl at u liking that game. says alot bout u and how little games u have.
rofl@ titan fight. titan is dogshat. its basically just a titan vs kratos fight in god of war 3 on the ps3. get over it.
It isnt our fault that ff16 is the only game that u have...the developers dont know u. u arent married to yoship. developers dont care that u whiteknight this mediocre game.
You’ve played 4 hours…how can you possibly have any realistic opinion on how big and expands I’ve the game is?
Counterpoint, I played 4 hours of FF16 and saw one of the most gruesome dark scenes in FF history that made me realize the size and scope of the game.
But I get what you are saying, but I've heard about how flying works, and how it's mostly fast traveling and what not.
True and then you played FF16 and saw how wildly small it is compared to what you thought haha. Also people literally are skipping tutorials on flying and complaining it’s fast travel. Only thing you can’t do is manually fly between planets and land. You can fly to entire systems manually. They never promised a full space sim to begin with so idk why people were expecting something the level of no man’s sky.
Is Starfield using the Creation Engine used for the Fallout Games? That engine is like the gaming version of a jalopy lol i thought Betheada made a new engine just for Starfield.
Yeah they are still using the Creation Engine. Same old stiff animations until ragdoll physics kick in.
Because the ones that are enjoying it are busy actually playing the game, instead of spending time on Reddit writing entire dissertations about it. Especially since it's a fresh launch.
yep! I'm 26 hours in and loving it.
Haven't perused the reddits, and I'm not trying to lol
just gonna enjoy my game :)
I wouldn’t even go to the starfield sub, you get enough of it in every other sub
Yep. Same thing happened with me and FFXVI.
I ended up leaving the FFXVI discord and just vowing to enjoy my games and not obsessively look over online discussions.
Honestly, a lot of people love focusing on what a game doesn’t have rather than appreciate what it offers.
Pessimistic fools, though there are likely those offering equal criticism with what they do like about it too. A new final fantasy and a new Bethesda game in the span of a few months, it's a good time to like games. 😁
Difference being, Starfield is just not a very good game, typical lazy Bethesda slop in space this time
The lack of graphical optimization is probably not helping either
Yeah, this is a deal breaker for me. I am not buying a next gen Xbox just to play a game that looks last gen with 30fps. At least FF16 actually looks good.
It most certainly does not look last gen. Graphics are insane on planets in 3rd person especially.
Yeah, you are not convincing me…
You’re fine to think what you want. It’s the best looking game this year in many, many ways. Also graphics are far from everything. Baldurs Gate 3 might win game of the year and looks an awful lot like Dragon Age: Inquisition most of the time.
Ok, it’s fine if you say the game is good looking but saying Starfield is the best looking game this year is just delusional, LOL.
I mean you haven’t played it. I’m playing it on PC. It has some jaw dropping visuals at times from what little I’ve played. Also most games out this year big release wise are not on PC. I can make most ps3 games look as good as ps5 games these days.
Ok, just keep telling yourself that.
And saying Baldurs gate 3 might be goty is also delusional.
not really
If there weren't so many bangers this year, I might agree with you guys.
what do you think will be goty?
Sounds like you want to watch movies and not play games.
That’s true tho. The pc spec required is way too high for its graphics. Probably due to the old engine they are using
I've finished the main quest for starfield and honestly it's 80% trash 20% decent. Game play is fine, it's not redefining anything but it works. Exploration on planets is horrible it takes far too long to move to locations and the poi repeat very often.
Performance ain't the best but it's playable on mid range hardware at least. The bugs are what annoyed me most. From soft locks, hard locks, broken quest triggers and needing to quit to desktop multiple times. It got really annoying.
I don't think the game is bad right now I would say 7-7.5/10 I've just had another quest break. What's there is good and anyone saying it's a shit game hasn't played it or they stopped at steams refund window.
These games having the same metacritic is pretty dumb honestly, there is some bias towards Bethesda because xvi is far better in gameplay, story, world and side characters. Not to mention being far more graphically superior.
my biggest gripe and possibly unpopular opinion is how large the planet surfaces are with how sparse objectives/points of interest are. the map is also donkeyshit for a game released in 2023. i've put in about 13 hours and barely have explored the 1st place you visit for the main quest and there wasnt much actually worth exploring. the game is supposed to have 100+ planets/moons to explore and my concern is its going to get stale.
the game plays well on a higher end pc and looks good, minus random NPCs looking janky. i haven't run into many bugs yet outside of mobs freezing up during combat and getting stuck on environment. i know this game will have tons of mod support over its lifetime.
my intial impression with what i've interacted with is slightly underwhelmed. i'm still planning to put some hours in it and expect my opinion will likely correct for new information/experience.
its the same crappy barren planet over and over again. its computer generated.
most of them are complete barren and nothing to do but run in them, nice runningsimulator there.
And the 1 or two planets that have a random generated cave in them, u can explore a little. just dont expect much other than 1 or 2 rooms in there with some random loot. imagine finding a mug and a chair in a cave on a random faraway planet with no visible signs of any humanoid lifeforms but somehow u see a 20th century earthrealm chair and a mug in there.
or how some planets are deprived of oxygen but somehow outside u find a garden table, some garden chairs and some plates and a mug in there. well i guess they like to sunbathe outside.
game is a MESS.
Ok so what would you suggest would actually improve it? Besides, just whining about a bunch of personal gripes.
I literally just got done blowing through a massive Spacer base in a mine on some backwater planet and then flew to a cool forested one inhabited by a bunch of dangerous crabs. I feel like you're blowing things well out of proportion.
Have you ever played a BGS game before? Because this game is effectively Fallout in space and I'm totally cool with that.
I think there are valid criticisms of FF16 and Starfield. Just because people criticise a game doesnt mean they dont enjoy it. But yes, agreed that there are extreme trolls. But I have seen people put up legitimate issues for both games and they are right to make their opinions heard.
You can look at the huge difference in reception of FF16/Starfield to the reception to AC6/BG3. AC6 and BG3 has had universal acclaim from both reviewers and gamers. That's cause they were great games with high quality in most aspects of the game that mattered to people. No one online is trashing on AC6 or BG3 cause there is not many things you can nitpick on them cause they are giving amazing value and enjoyment to most gamers. FF16 and Starfield has issues due to which they are not receiving near universal acclaim and thus there are people who like and dislike the game.
Love that you got downvoted for the most measured and mature response that even brought the receipts.
Trolls can go both ways and it’s a bummer more people don’t seem to realize that.
gosh I finished the game today and went searched some discussion threads on reddit. I was surprised at the wave of negativity (mostly posts from launch). I loved every freaking second of the game. Of course, it isn't perfect (even though for me it was lol) but it's definitely not as bad as some people are making it out to be. So I think there's some truth to your theory. Though I'm glad the recent posts on the sub are of people enjoying the game!
Same thing happened with TLOU2. I couldn't believe the hate it was getting. Since then I've been very wary of gaming forums on the internet. I don't need that kinda poison in my life lol
I'm saying this as someone that doesn't have an Xbox or a good PC so I can't even play Starfield and I don't have a horse in this race. I feel like people, myself included can fall into the mindset of, "How dare you hate the game I love, or adversely, "How dare you love the thing I hate." It's easy to fall into that, especially when talking about anything people are passionate about be it positive or negative. My favorite reviews are middle ground praises and critiques that just stay fair, and I try to stay away from reviews that boast either 0/10 or 10/10. To me 10/10 means perfect in every execution possible and to this day I've never played an absolute perfect game. It's really hard not to get lost in the love it or hate it sides though.
Disagree on your 10/10 criteria because if that's how it actually worked, no game ever would get a 10/10, which defeats the purpose of that score even existing. It's reserved for titles that either get so many things right, are great experiences and/or caters specifically to the reviewer's criteria of what a really good game is. No game will ever be perfect, but I will still gives games like Witcher 3 or BG3 a 10/10 for the monumental amount of things they got right, the experiences they've given me and for being outstanding in many ways, especially when compared to other games.
I don't think it defeats the purpose by evaluating it like that. "10/10 means a flawless perfect game" can be the abstract ceiling for games, but since no game is perfect ever or to every reviewer, then the shades of 9s it gets can offer you a good understanding of how good the game is based on the reviewer. I find it just as useless if 10 games get 10/10 in a year from the same outlet or reviewer because then a "10/10" becomes meaningless and just a numerical way of saying " I REALLY like this game".
You will NEVER play a perfect game. Games come out with bugs, which may seem like a bad thing, but the devs will never find all bugs before releasing. The idea is that the players will voice their concern when playing, saying “hey this is a big” and the devs will fix it. For me, bugs don’t matter at all, unless they’re extremely frequent or are game breaking.
Never said that I or you will ever play a perfect game (in fact I said the opposite, no game is perfect). Nor that games come bug free. I don't get the point of your comment...
That it’s ridiculous to have such high standards?
Where exactly did I say I have high standards?
By saying no game is perfect, you definitely have high standards, because there are actually people who will say a game is perfect
?? "No game is perfect" is a fact. Literally EVERY game has flaws, from technical, to structural, to subjective "I don't like it". It does not mean that I have high or low standards. It just means that, "no game is perfect", please stop assuming you know people on the internet based on a comment. I genuinely enjoyed Forspoken, which was critically, commercially, and culturally a bad game, so please stop thinking you know what my "standards" are.
To your last point, there are also people who think the earth is flat, that vaccines definitely cause autism, and that think mcdonalds is a healthy eating habit. They are free to think that, but 1. It does not make it a fact and 2. Me contradicting or stating the opposite does not make me morally superior.
Very fair points. I guess I just have a problem with numbered based scoring for games in general. Especially since games don't have an industry set criteria of what's considered correct or incorrect. Like you said, I feel like scoring games are massively subjective based on what we do or don't like and what kind of experiences we want and get.
It's worth noting SF's initial 88 was achieved through some of the most blatant score manipulation seen in recent years.
There’s no evidence for that beyond the circumstantial fact some outlets scored lower than the majority. Which would make it equally blatant every other time there’s outliers (including for XVI).
Either there’s no score manipulation happening here and some reviewers simply think it’s not perfect. Or there is and it happens to many other major releases and Starfield is in no way exceptional or unique on that front.
What proof do you have on this? Most reputable YouTubers gave it a great rating too. ACG especially who buys every game himself and refuses all sponsors.
Idk wtf icon era even is but so many people just hate bethesda and want them to fail. People are loving this game, you might not. I didn’t love red dead redemption 2 for instance. It happens. I also hate tears of the kingdom and would choose ff16 100/100 times when comparing them.
It's nothing to do with if the game is good or not, or if you are personally enjoying it. You asked for a source on review manipulation and icon era had a nice aggregation (including all the links to the primary sites) of different, well respected but often more critical, reviewers highlighting that they were cut out of the initial reviewing process.
yea the great xbot savior game got artificially manipulated higher...shocker.
lol
6 out of 10 sounds bout right.
Some of the comments on that youtube link I gave, are hilarious lol. Real gamers, not fanboyz, real gamers are seeing through the blatant charlatanism. A lot of the criticism also apply to ff16, empty theresnosoul games, no immersion, no depth, just shallowness and quick rush to release the game, corners cut.
Theres smoke and mirrors done in charming ways to make a game more fun and is basically a genius way to overcome technical limitations.
Then theres smoke and mirrors done, thats basically to mask corners thats being cut. This one is completely unacceptable.
You genuinely confuse me man. You posted a link to a chanel who basically says all games he ever played are trash. I did notice he gave Call of Duty some good reviews until Activision banned him, then he went on saying that it's a shit hole franchise. You rank Eldin Ring as perfect and genuinely raised the bar, but that chanel says Eldin Ring is also a piece of shit game. Are you ok brother?
Meth probably. Like I'm not kidding, this dude's comment history seems like someone not in their right mind.
Yeah man he's all over the place with rants and then making another rant to retcon his previous rant. It seems like my first comment went completely over his head and he missed where I was referring to him when I talked about the people in the "how dare you love what I hate" category.
Nah he correct. starfraud is a mediocre game using repetitive gameplay and repetitive assets with very minimal consumerfriendlyness, broken bugs and glitches that are 20 year old and still present (surprise surprise), mediocre story, lots of smoke and mirrors hiding massive amounts of cutcorners, annoying segments that goes on repeat, outdated character models, animations, facial expressions, item system thats broken since elder scrolls on 360 and still not being fixed despite skyrim, fallout 4, all the dlcs, its 2023 and combat and animations are still stuck in 2008.
when its 2039, they would still be using assets from 2008 and guys like u still gonna give them a free pass? lol
the combat stinks. the melee is the same melee as in fallout 3, elder scrolls on 360 (thats 2006 for u). u do a melee attack from 20 feet away and the opponent flies in the air for 50 feet. thats how ridiculous the bugs are.
u use a rifle and connect 10 headshots in a row and the hp doesnt even drain but increase. good game.
How many hours have you put into it?
oh im sorry my guy, i didnt know i had to put in 60 hours of starfraud before the game becomes "interesting" and its our fault that we didnt play a boring game up to its full potential (60 hours is basically 90% of the game and the rest is just extra optional endgame content)...
nah. this game is dogshat.
games either are immediately fun, or its the developers fault. Period. Its not the gamers fault when they hide the good stuff after endgame, that beats the point of it being a game.
Now, there are also games that start out FLASHING AND EXTREMELY hyped, cough cough FF16, and just drops down from there...thats another problem.
I never even almost said anything of the sort. I just asked how much you've played it.
Why can't people paid for $100 criticize the game for the better? Doesn't matter which game, each complain deserve to be heard.
I kinda feel bad for them since it will t
Whats wrong with u?
U "feel bad" even though everythings said about these games are REAL.
ppl arent wrongly criticizing these games. ITS FRIKKIN LEGIT, all is real criticism and UNACCEPTABLE coding in 2023. U cant use animations thats 15 years old in 2023 when THIRTY AAA games have long surpassed and raised the bar higher.
StarFRAUD is legit an average game. Ppl arent bashing it coz they are trolls or whatever. Its legit a BORING and incredibly annoying game to play.
They literally did nothing to the ANCIENT engine they been using the last 20 years. Literally every bug and glitch from fallout 4, elder scrolls, skyrim, the SAME BUGS, are literally still in that game.
Unacceptable. And deserves nothing but smackdown. I dont know bout u, but when developers CUT CORNERS and ruin a game, people who play games longer than 10 years, KNOW. Its very noticable. And we will call it out. If ff16 cant even make a big city, despite 30 other AAA games giving us giant vibrant cities, U WILL BE CALLED OUT FOR IT. an npc that just stands there and wave there arms around a little, is literally GTA2 on PS2 quality. U think thats acceptable in 2023 now?
The real question is why are u defending this shat. whats wrong with u man.
Are you okay man
I’m wondering if you can see how insane you sound.
starfraud is snakesoil. we cant help it when u have such low standards that even assets from 2008 re-used 4 times in the last 15 years, and re-used in 2023 are still OK for u...
thats insane and should be mocked at. not celebrated at.
whats next, the year is now 2045 and they bring u animations and assets from 2006?
What assets? Show me assets from Starfield that were used in 2008. Otherwise you’re spouting nonsense. Also buddy! Guess what, elden ring? Literally used a ton of animations from 2012. Do you hate it now?
rofl check out starfraud jumping down the tower. its literally made with 2005 animations, assets and physics!!!!
Yes because that’s what the game was made for. You are unhinged. Enjoy being the way you are.
this guy is living in massive massive denial. stuck his head in the sand and screaming "GOTY GOTY GOTY"
the only GOTY award scamfield is winning is in the category of snakesoil !!!
google, "leap of faith" starfield, and find the starfield sub discussion...FOR SOME GREAT LAUGHS!!!! PEEPS aint HOLDING BACK ON THIS FRAUD OF A GAME. thats for sure.
Oh im sorry, a game primarily focussed on exploration where u cant even explore and do things like that. Look at the horrible running animations straight from GTA2 on the playstation 2. the horrible stiff motion, the lowby graphics, look at the weird falling animation, its almost like dancing from a ps1 game, the horrible physics, the splash in the water, the straight fall into swimming animation where half the character is above water, the entire thing is a frikkin clown show.
guy is surprised people try stuff like this. this stuff is done in every game, guy. u even game?

DO U EVEN GAME
You seem to be obsessed with jumping off buildings in games…totally normal. I too rate games based on how it feels to commit suicide in them.
very funny, guy.
its quite clear that u have only 1 game thats why u defend it to the bone.
it cant even do basics that every other game has been doing lmao. still stuck in 2005. scamfield
I only have one game?? What? I’m playing starfield, bg3 and armored core alongside each other so wrong again. You’re batting 1000 here guy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s99oXTG5Y8
theres already a discussion thread on this in the "starfraud" sub and the comments aint holding back either. this game is pathetic beyond words. saying its 2005 animations and 2005 physics, IS BEING POLITE to this game.
check out the starfield cough starfraud sub, 1 post complaining about the lack of exploration and travelling, has over 3000 comments. 70-80% of the comments are people CALLING OUT THE BS that is starfraud.
at least the gamers are honest about it. Now compare that with gamers in ff16 subs, most arent willing to listen to legit criticism.
look at how horrible starfraud is. one dude jumped from tower into the water...this 2023 game used all 2004 animation or lack there of. incredible physics too! like even spiderman ps4, gta4 on 360/ ps3 has better physics!!! to say nothing of zelda nowadays. just horrible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYYiUZ9t7gE
enough said. starfraud would have been a decent game in 2010. in 2018 it was already outdated.
the only studios that deserve praise are those studios that SET THE BAR HIGHER, RAISE NEW STANDARDS,
or simply perfect existing standard to the point where its massively fun, enjoyable, charming and 100% complete (aka no cut corners).
Elden ring, from software is such a game
Red dead redemption 2.
The Last of Us.
Just a few examples.
Games dont always have to raise new bars. Simply perfect existing standards will earn u kudos. Jedi survivor. Lots of crashes and bugs during initial launch, but all patched and simply put the game is FUN to play. Metroid and Castlevania platforming in 3d done RIGHT. Kudos for finally giving us 3d platforming done right.
Bethesdas starflop does not fit this category.
And sadly square enix is currently also not making the list. I hope ff7-2 will set everything right. But right now, from the looks of ff16, they cannot even match their old quality. They cant even make big cities anymore. Npcs all look uninspiring with 15 year old technologies...
I mean, it's honestly all opinions.
I never liked "The last of us" for example, I honestly found it boring to play.
Same with Witcher 3 that's highly rated, I find the combat very boring and dull to play.
Whilst other games are masterpieces to me that people don't rate as high.
Yeah really seems to be flopping with an 88 on metacritic! Enjoy writing your essays though I’m sure they will impact Bethesda.
overrated and bribed scoring.
starfraud is snakesoil.
better wake up, guy.
Except one of the most trust reviewers out there Acg who buys his games every time and doesn’t accept sponsors. How do you explain that? Nothing to wake up to I like the game you don’t. Get over it. I don’t even think you played it honestly.
7 out of 10 IGN
7 out of 10 Gamespot
ouch, cry harder man. facts are right here.
even that 7 is generous considering the huge amount of bugs and glitches and re-used animations that look like the game is from the ps2 era lmao
Ign have tears of the kingdom a 10/10 I couldn’t stand that game. That is literally 2 people’s opinions…2.
7 out of 10 was generous of them rofl.
scamfield is prolly 6-6.5 out of 10
Hah I literally posted this exact sentiment in a comment on the Starfield sub the other day. Gaming community has become inundated by pre-release hype culture where people build up unrealistic expectations and are inevitably let down.
I think streamer culture has made things worse too. They'll latch on to whatever sentiment gets them the most engagement (so generally negative) and their followers will parrot whatever BS they spew.
All of us enjoying the game are too busy playing it to fume on Reddit. Vocal minority will always be the loudest unfortunately.
It’s a shame folk have the mentality of I don’t like something, so I’m going to go write forever and tell you why. No one cares.
I had a blast with Final Fantasy 16, I’m loving Starfield was well. Will read opinions from others, but won’t change my opinion. There are annoying things in both games, but they are both great
God forbid people have opinions and they want to make them public.
didnt you know? less than 90 equals to utter crap & failure
I’m just done with people treating an 87-88 like it’s utter garbage, to me that’s still a very good game with some marked flaws and that’s exactly how I felt about FFXVI and I’m feeling with Starfield 6 hours in.
Bro this is the internet. Everytime a game releases, this will happen. People who like the game will leave paragraphs explaining why just like how people who hate the game do. Idk bout you but when I spend 60/70 bucks on a game I’m gunna be critical about it if I don’t like it
I'm one of the people who thought Starfield was going to be a huge disappointment critically. Todd Howard is frankly not to be trusted. But by all accounts it's better then where I would have placed it.
I think people expected it to be No Man's Sky post revamp plus Bethesda RPG all in one.
No it’s just a mediocre game . People can enjoy it just don’t expect goty
My thought on video games is to try to ignore what any reviewers say about it. If it looks interesting, buy it and play. If you try it out and it sucks, you can always trade it in for credit toward something else I suppose
Yeah, this happens litteraly every time a larger than average profile game comes out.
Idk from what I can tell people over hyped Stanfield into something that is wasn't. Now that there playing it and it's not what they fooled themselves into what it is, they are disappointed.
Though I'm split some people want to be heard, others just think their opinion is more important than it actually is
You should stop worrying about what Reddit thinks of games you like.
If you truly want to enjoy gaming my only recommendation is to not engage in online discussion, review scores, video discussions etc etc.
The gaming landscape as a whole has an unhealthy obsession with being negative towards literally anything that comes out and will nitpick until they find something to be negative about.
Just play games that look interesting to you and if you enjoy them thats great and if not maybe it just wasnt for you.
Personally I enjoyed XVI quite a bit. Not to the point where its one of my all time favorite games but its a solid and competently made game.
It always amazes me that people make these tonedeaf posts as if it's only the people that like the game that should be allowed to post about it.
Newsflash: not all people like the same games. Some games you love, others will hate. Its ok for them to be able to post why they dont like a game.
If you just want a circlejerk of happiness, go make your own forum or something. So sick of these "wow, people actually vocalize things they dont like" garbage posts.
Except I actually bought Final fantasy
I mean I personally still have my criticisms of FF16 but overall I enjoyed my time with the game
Brains are very selective.
I didn't go looking for bad reviews or negative comments for XVI specifically, and I haven't really seen them. If anything, i've seen a lot of posts from this sub describing XVI in superlative terms in response to the (for me) non-existant "haters" that might have made my feelings on the game more reserved because it doesn't gel with my tastes as well as other FF entries.
I'm seeing some click-baity titles for elements of Starfield, but when the content of those titles is about the Map views, or its Accessibility options I get the feeling that they are having to reach to find issues with the game that people will agree on. I instantly write those off, and would have done the same for any reviews of XVI.
I don't even see why people care about Metacrtic scores so much if they have already played and made their own mind up about the game.
They ain't my people. They tried to shit on us and now have a lower score.
I learned not to care what people thought of it, because I personally enjoy FFXVI that much.
I still call FFXVI my GOTY and I'm playing Baldur's Gate 3 right now (which is really good too).
