27M traveling solo for 2 weeks after a breakup - what are your absolute favorite cities/countries?
ItinerariesIf this is your first time in Europe I would say Italy. It's affordable, safe, dense with great train network and loads of international airports. There's a bit of everything you could want. History, architecture, culture, food, beaches. Perfect for 2 weeks.
I agree so much diversity so close and well connected you could pack in some fantastic places without being overwhelmed travelling between them on trains. Venice, Cinque Terre, Florence Sienna Pisa, Lake Garda or Como, the Dolomites. I’d love to be in your shoes seeing all that for the first time again. The only difficulty will be the post holiday blues! Check out https://www.seat61.com/ for train info
Could you elaborate on safe please? I’ve heard of plenty pickpocket and scam cases taking place publicly, and waiters being nice to rope you into their restaurants, and switch to being rude the moment they get you a table.
When people say Europe is safe, they’re talking about your physical safety. There are definitely people who would like to part you from your money if you’re not paying close enough attention, but at no point are they out to do you bodily harm. Also pretty much all of the things you mentioned are pretty easy to avoid if you take basic precautions and use common sense when approached by strangers.
I'll just join the other guy to say, it's phisically safe like most places in Europe, but a lot of scammers like most places in Europe.
Do a bit of research, there are a lot of helpful youtube videos about how to stay safe. Most scams are pretty straightforward and they go for the stupidest tourists. A little bit of research will make you smarter than most tourists.
Keep your belongings close to you, keep your phone in your pocket and your hand on it when around other people. Again, pickpockets will go after the most vulnerable, you just need to look like a hard target.
With the restaurant scam it's very important again that instead of just going into a place you check them up on Google/tripadvisor. Do your research ahead and save a few places, so when you are there you can just go, oh that sandwich place that I saw on tiktok is around the corner.
I went from London to Istanbul with interrail on a 2 month trip and nothing happened to me, nobody scammed me because I followed basic safety precautions which are pretty much the same for all countries within Europe be it England, Romania or Turkey.
Go directly to Budapest. Lively, vibrant city. Go stay at the Maverick City Lodge hostel and you'll meet amazing, friendly travelers.
I ADORE London. It’s my favorite place in the world. So I recommend it 100%.
London is awesome. Good to know I'm not the only London simp.
I’m a huge London simp and I’m not ashamed. I feel home there, it’s a strange sensation
London is, top 👌🏼
My vote would be for London too. I haven't been to very many places in Europe, just London and around The Netherlands a bit, so I don't have have much knowledge or experience to recommend places but I am wanting to go back there. It's been just about 2 years for me now since I went. There's so much history and culture, so many things to see and do, it's a gateway city to travel to other places, it's great.
I was in london just for a couple of days but after visiting the city center I didn't know where to go from there. What are your favorite things to see/do in london?
I mean what do you like? London is very diverse and has tons to do but it depends on what you want to see.
Barcelona and London are my favourite western cities. In the central/east you could go to Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Kraków.
Even more east my favourite cities are Kyiv, Lviv and Grodno but I don't recommend going to Belarus (border is fucking pain) or Ukraine (russians are fucking pain).
In the north I've been to baltics and Finland only, here Tallinn is my favourite.
I also like Greece, Athens is an interesting option, my favourite is Thessaloniki. If you are there you may as well take a bus to Istanbul, very nice if you like cats and kebab.
I'd avoid islands, but if you want to go my favourite is Madeira, Crete and Tenerife are cool too.
Southern Spain! Went last September. Seville is a great city where you can spend a few days and also do day trips to other cities like Córdoba. Granada is amazing too. Great food, culture, plenty of things to do. It’s an area well connected by trains.
If you’re in the Seville area, don’t miss Cadiz. Lovely beach city with a historic centre and, being situated where it is, an almost islandy vibe.
Cadiz is awesome, had a blast there.
Italy. London, Paris, Amsterdam, Florence
slovenia was amazing!
Denmark , Copenhagen the vibe is just amazing, people is friendly, everything is clean, not to many tourists, also Italy, good food, affordable and beautiful landscapes
A recently single guy in his 20s could have quite a good time in Barcelona. If that doesn't work, head east towards Prag and you'll forget that girl ever existed.

The world is yours for the taking young man. Get out there.
Edinburgh is super fun and very picturesque.
Vienna blew me away, I’m currently looking for an apartment to spend a year or two there
If you’re coming from the US I’d start in the UK - London & maybe Edinburgh. Then fly to Nice, use the trains to explore the Côte d’Azur and from there venture into Italy.
Alternatively, Vienna, Budapest, Prague are all close together by train. Three excellent cities.
For the first time I'd do basics. Fly into London, train to Paris, train to Amsterdam or Madrid (or Barcelona) and fly back from there.
Galway!
I would do Lisbon! Safe and inexpensive
South of France, across the Italian Riviera, into Florence and surrounding Tuscany, train to Rome, flight to Sicily for beaches
Nice and the Cote de Azur are beautiful. Side trip to Avignon
Spain - start Madrid and drive up thru Bilbao - head to San Sebastián then on to Biarritz France. Basque Country unbelievably beautiful in June. Croatia- start in Zagreb and travel down to Dubrovnik stopping to stay in Plivite Lakes, Split, venture into Bosnia and end Dubrovnik or even continue down to Montenegro! Switzerland - lots of beautiful towns to hit in the summer - Zurich was my favorite. Greece - Start with a few days in Athens and then do some island hopping via ferries. So many islands depending on what you are looking for you can’t go wrong picking 2 or 3!!!
Go to Galway. There is no where else. It'll bring you peace love joy and the craic.
You can't go wrong with Lisboa, Portugal.
Alps regions: Switzerland if budget is not an issue, north of Austria, south of Bavaria, even south of Slovenia. after all Nature helps us heal, especially after an emotional turmoil such as breakups
London, just don’t wear a nice watch.
So many great places to go, but given your timeframe I'd recommend strategically choosing places that are close together so you can use trains as your main transport and maximise time.
I loved Budapest - it's beautiful, full of history and also has a great night life. You'll be able to make friends easy. Try Hive for a party hostel or Maverick for a more chill one.
If you do Budapest you could easily go:
- Budapest, Vienna (with bratislava day trip or one night stop over), Prague, Berlin. All very beautiful and historical cities.
OR if you want else where in Europe you could spend that entire time in Italy, easy or do an Amsterdam, Paris, London loop.
When booking hostels make sure they have either a good bar or communal area and events - that way you'll easily make friends to day trip with. Or you can go on free walking tours, but it's normally and older crowd I find.
Italy baby
Take me 😩
Malta
Spain (though I'm not a huge fan of Madrid)
Lyon in France! Great food, nice sights, lots of culture! I would avoid Paris as the olympics prep is making the city very chaotic. The Amalfi Coast in Italy is great too.
Hey same here man! 27M, recently single and doing a 2 week trip in June as my first time in Europe.
The plan is to hit each for 3 days: Barcelona -> Nice -> Milan/Lugano -> Berlin -> Amsterdam -> Stockholm
Florence, Venice, Rome! Italy for the win!
Copenhagen is alive with activity and very safe. I wandered the streets alone after midnight.
Prague and London. They’re both amazing
Italy in your case!!!
South of France!
i went to Jordan after one week from a breakup and was one of the most perfect experience ever
Amsterdam, Paris, London, Lisbon

Italy or the Greek Island hopping.
