Bit of a long shot, got bit by a fly 3 days ago in Scotland and its turned into this, was a black fly, a bit like a skinny smaller blue bottle, any ideas what it could be as I've never had a bite look like that.
Yes sounds like that. The red around it looks like the wound might have got infected- if it continues to expand (cellulitis?) op should consider medical attention.
If it continues to expand, definitely seek medical attention. A good way to monitor it is to draw around the current redness with a marker or something similar. If it expands beyond the markings, seek medical attention. If left untreated, it could turn to blood poisoning.
I almost died from cellulitis when I was 13, ended up on malaria medication, and became incredibly ill. It can be very serious, please take care OP!
Likely a Clegg bite, better known as a horsefly.
Source, scottish native, lifelong outdoorsman, victim of multiple attacks by horsefly. My old man swears by savlon for it but I've had prescribed creams in the past when it looked like this.

Horse fly? I got bitten by one on my arm and honestly felt awful for 2 days. I was shakey, headachey and had a light fever! It’s not common to have a severe reaction but small reactions seem normal from my past research.
Clegg bite. (Known as horse flies outside Scotland). The wee beasties love me, regularly bit by them. Get some antihistamine cream on it and it'll settle quickly.
