Proper Way to Shutdown Host

I have my printers on a smart plug where I can shut off the printer from wherever. After rooting my KE and using Mainsail, I see there is a "Power" icon in the upper right which gives you numerous options. One is "Host Control" which provides "Reboot" and "Shutdown".

I thought seeing you can shutdown the printer with this button then that should be the way you do it. However, when I tap/click "Shutdown" It does nothing. I'm concerned about corruption by simply removing power from the printer.

Any thoughts on this topic?

Oh, but my main question is shutting it down via the interface any different than simply turning the power off to the printer? That is more of my concern. As I said, I have smart 15A plug connected to it so I can control power without being in front of it. If it doesn't make a difference then I'm not concerned with using the GUI.

Printers don't have an OS as complex as PCs, they are not affected by "hard" shutdowns. You mostly need to worry about the nozzle temp being cool enough before shutting it down.

The shutdown button in the GUI only switches off the OS part of the printer, it doesn't switch off all the components of the printer.

I'd recommend after finishing a print, just cool off the nozzle to a reasonable temperature and then just switch it off with a smart plug.

Thanks for the explanation and that (now) makes sense to me. Meaning nothing writing to a "hard drive" or kept in memory with worries about corrupting an OS. Got it.

Last question stemming from your response... I understand what you are saying regarding "cooling off the nozzle to a reasonable temp". Question is: if I saw a failed print occurring (via my Blink printer camera) while I was not home and I decided to turn off the printer via the smart plug...when I turn it back on, will the fan (that is running at that time) help alleviate the hot nozzle issue? Sorry, I hope I explained my question well enough without typing a novel or insane run-on sentences! :)

Yes, the only things that get written to are the logs and the "resume on power drop" file, which are not critical to the operation of the Linux OS.

Yes, if the hotend fan comes on after power up and then off below 60°, it will prevent the heat creep issue.

I think that answers that question. To confirm, if the printer is turned on, regardless of its last state, the fan will run until the nozzle is below 60C.
