Our family had some really enjoyable trips along the river last summer, I hope this historic piece of our city remains open for everyone to enjoy.
I love seeing the party boat go by our place, hearing the bass and beats, and seeing all the people having a good time
The boat, while a cool idea and landmark of the city, seems to be a money pit.
Boats, by nature, are money pits.
I had a friend that grew up on the coast who described boats as "holes in the water into which you shovel money" when I mused about getting one.
I commonly hear “The two best days of owning a boat are the day you get it and the day you sell it”
Unless you are wealthy and don’t care at all about the money pit they are. I grew up near a lake and had many middle class friends whose parents had boats. IMO that is much better than actually owning one haha
This is the plan! Get a friend with a boat!
B-bring O-out A-another T-thousand
As they say, the two happiest moments in a boat owner’s life are when they buy it and when they sell it.
Which makes it perfect for $laundry. Sauce: Ozark
City must have made budget cuts
The city has nothing to do with it.
The city funds these historical things all the time. They are having to pay the employees too much so it’s likely they are making cuts elsewhere
And again, the city has nothing to do with the boat.
Honestly at this point just put the boat on display in Fort Edmonton Park or something. It's an icon of the city but an absolute white elephant to own while it's in the water.
The city hasn’t owned it in years.
The cost of getting it out of the water without destroying it would be insane. And unfortunately leaving it in the water means the ice will crush it eventually.
I actually know a guy that owned it like 20 years ago. He was a welder and he said he welded some sort of skid system on it and dragged it out of the river sideways with bulldozers to fix it.
I bet they see what's coming up with drought conditions. This boat probably won't be going anywhere this summer. It's happened before with low water levels on the N. Sask.
Will be hard to run a riverboat during a historic drought. Accidental beach might be the whole riverbed this year
It really depends on a business plan. The boat could stay docked and never move all year and still be successful as it's one of the only things in the river valley allowed to operate as a business. It could become a restaurant or cafe in the heart of the river valley.
That's definitely possible and hopefully someone wants to breathe life into the idea but maaaaan that's a tough pitch to try and sell a boat that can't really boat.
Are they expecting the river to dry up? I haven’t heard that
It doesn't have to dry up, it just need to be shallow enough that you can't run a boat of that size on it.
I'd convert it to a casino and have themed poker tournaments like Maverick.
Reddit boat!
All aboard the Midnight Narwhale
Now that is a fantastic idea. Can we start a campaign to get reddit to buy it? And then random subs could come up to Edmonton and ride the boat around for a weekend apiece? Endless entertainment.
If it floats, fucks, or flys, you're better off renting.
Wish I learned that earlier in life.
Probably would have been cheaper
What’s the asking price ?
About tree fiddy
Again???
May as well just burn your currency to roast marshmallows...
Wife took me on the riverboat last summer.
I can see why it's for sale.
The food was awful.
We disembarked, paddled up the river less than 100m, drifted back, and moored.
It was a complete and total rip-off.
My mother in law, husband, and I went last year and completely agree. She was visiting from BC with such high hopes for the experience. Absolute waste of money.
I am actually surprised. Has anyone tried to book it? Booked solid for every sailing last year (dinner , bar party etc) if you didn’t get a ticket right away. And very limited cruises. Seems a bit mismanaged ?
A group of us went on the riverboat last summer. Fun night but 1/4 of the evening we smelled sewage as we went past a water treatment area. That and there was not enough seating for those who didn’t buy the dinner. Good concept but probably just won’t work in YEG.
Taking a ride on the Edmonton Queen is a truly magical experience and I'm glad there's a boat named after her
Truly a sad day for our city.
But the second happiest day for the owners.
True, but there's something magical about that river.
Don't worry, it'll be back on sale in another 5 years
I hope it's running this summer. Haven't been on it in like 19 years lol but was really hoping to go on it this summer
Ok hear me out. We all pitch in and use it as a time share in the summer lol .
can't say I'm surprised
Man, one of the best times I ever had was on that boat, it was Canada day years ago, the low level bridge was undergoing maintenance so the Queen couldn't do their regular route to see the fireworks, so the boat was rented out. It was pirate themed, everyone dressed up as pirates and a bunch of punk, ska and rockabilly bands played on deck. Damn that was a fun evening.
