Brand new player, looking to level a tank class with some spellcasting so I’ve made one of each of these (currently levels 8 and 6 respectively). How do their play styles differ? What are their strengths and weaknesses?
I main paladin in legit every mmo without fail 😂 I’m addicted to golden armour and a big ass sword… but shadowknights seem like a cool concept. Thanks for the advice!
SKs in EQ2 are indeed pretty cool. You get several aoes and some nice spells/attacks that all have a cool look for the class.
I gotta say seeing maergoth play a paladin really made me make one he was able to self heal when their healer had to go to keep the xp going while they found a rep, i dont think an sk can achieve this but i could be wrong
SK gets some life leech type abilities but nothing on the paladin healing.
One difference:
If you play Paladin and intend to group a lot, you will make some friends when you use Lay Hands to save the dumb wizard that can't manage aggro when the healer is low on mana. The SK helps the healers by using its life leach type abilities to assist the healer keeping YOU alive when all heck breaks loose and he/she is low on mana.
Back in the day, Paladins were faith based fighters getting their power from the gods and share the healing ability of a cleric and would need +wis as well as str
SK got their power via necromancy and stole the life force of enemies for themselves and needed +int and str gear.
I'm pretty confused why paladin isn't as popular as well. It seems as if paladin has just as much or more self healing as the sk. Id figure both could solo equally well.
I’ve tried both and preferred pally. But then I tried guardian and like it the most.
In this current state of the game in origins ive heard that paladins are underpowered but I still love the whole shtik of being the holy warrior. I even sometimes build some pretty kickers quotes into my spells for added effects in groups. Its fun.
But currently I have a lvl 11 sk and he's almost unkillable with just lvl 10 handcrafted armor and apprentice 4 abilities
One thing Worth noting, SK is severely overplayed. Last I looked there were almost 300 online while there were only 50 paladins. Other tank classes don't even come close to 300.
I'd like to know that that's not because SK is particularly overpowered. Specifically in the origin server, they aren't overly special.
If paladin is your jam. Go paladin! You'll have a great time. They are very strong class.
Isn't SK one of the few classes that can solo? That is a quality most players seek in a class.
I don't think they get much advantage in solo for a long time. They certainly don't get much self-sustain via life taps.
We're only confirmed to go to Kingdom of sky expansion. SK will need the EoF expansion to shine solo. So they may never do that well on this server.
I think there's going to be a lot of disappointed level 50 SKs.
Doesn't /who all cap at 100? Is there another command that shows the exact amount?
Nope. "/who all shadow knight" shows well over 100. Give it a spin!
I think its Harm Touch. It's the anti gank. Back on launch I ribbed someone trying to gank me and got a few plat off them. Thinking that must have scarred them for life.
Love SK but haven't played it since release. On a Pally now
Maybe. But not until later expansions. At level 60 it only does a little over 1.5k damage. For context, that's less than two wizard nukes.
Pally is more defensive, SK more offensive.
Both can tank any similar content pretty equally.
Do you want to be a holy hero or a dark knight?
