Hello! I am RJ i am 13 years old! I want to get started with d&d on a budget, i bought essentials kit 2 years ago but was confused as hell so i did not play it but i want to try to start again since i really love RPG games so i want to ask you guys what is a good starting point and a nice and easy campaign i can DM With my friends or future d&d group. And how i can set up my table and notes i am going to need help with that..
Candlekeep Mysteries. They are all self contained one-shots that share a central setting of taking place at the Candlekeep Library. You can do one adventure and call it quits, continue as your character or try something new. Get the feel for the game and mechanics pretty risk free. Then when you’re ready, the Lost Mine of Phandelver is a good starter campaign
I use index cards that have the stat blocks for enemies I plan to use, as well as personality traits and physical features for planned NPCs, along with any updated info or behavior due to PC interactions
Lost mines of phandelver is probably one of the easiest things to run. There is lots of content and help available with the Google search from people that have run it. You can watch it being played by lots of different groups online so you can get an idea of how to run it. It's low level so you don't have to worry about more complicated rules yet.
I don't know how easy it is to run the module that comes with the starter kit so that's why I made this suggestion.
Familiarize yourself with the rule book and character creation provided. There are some really good 5e videos on YouTube that will help you in general rules or in character creation.
Read the adventure that you want to run for your friends and make reference to the rule book whenever you need to. Put bookmarks or sticky notes on the parts of the book that you have trouble remembering, understanding or you need to refer back to when you're reading your adventure.
I'll vouch for Lost Mines of Phandelver, agreed. It's easy to run, to adapt to yourself and the group, its easy to read and actually its really good campaign.
