We were on our way to pick up dinner and we stumbled on this assortment of vegan friendly Mediterranean food. Our theory is there was a party and no one wanted to touch the “vegetables” at the party. Fortunately they left it out in a sealed container on our block. We live in NYC.

If you were headed to dinner at 11pm yourself, then time being 11pm doesn’t mean that it wasn’t someone else’s food. Now I’m not even sure if I should believe this happened at this time.

I guess if the food was stone cold and the building it was in front of was completely dark (and NOT residential - never take a bag like that from in front of residential dark or not) then you got a good meal! In my mind though I'm thinking someone ordered via app during their last drink, stayed for one more and food sat for 20 min/ half hour and they came home to no food 😅

That’s true, BUT, they were literally on their way to get dinner, so they can at least afford a couple meals and apartment rent in NYC… someone ‘less fortunate’ could be literally anyone. The homeless person was an example.
I wish more homeless knew about dumpster diving, or had means to store larger quantities of food…. I’ve been homeless and only had a small cooler, and if I got some ice, that could store food for 2-3 days. I would have massively appreciated a ground score like this. Would have lasted me a week or more with a steady ice supply.
To be fair- it’s also a ‘silly assumption’ that this WASNT someone’s food order that got snagged.

I would assume that the nature of this subreddit does not mean that everyone here is okay with cats on their counters. Many people are diving food and ensuring it’s clean before making use of it. I had a Danby Countertop Dishwasher for the longest time. It amazing what you can fit in there lol. I could do pots, baking trays, and big metal bowls.
I didn't have a kitchen/kitchen sink, so I hooked it up to the bathroom sink and it lived on an Ikea butcherblock I found in the trash room of my complex.
The one op has (I think) is the one you fill up a reservoir via a scoop, so you don't have to hook it to a sink. Very useful if you're in a dry cabin or don't have space by a sink.

I paid 580$ a month for housing in one of North Americas most expensive cities, so I was kind of okay with the lack of kitchen.
A hot plate and massive toaster oven worked mostly. The lack of fridge sucked though, so I got a mini fridge off Walmart.
I am actually preparing to buy one. Until you've done dishes by hand for 3-4 people for 5 years, please don't judge. We're hanging on by a thread so it doesn't matter if it's practical😂😂😂

We have a standard dishwasher which is wheezing and groaning (17 years old).
This countertop one is interesting. We have a dead space it could go into, and I had never thought before now of buying a smaller replacement dishwasher and using it more often 🧐
It’s life changing. Really the convenience is the forks knives cups and small lids. I love mine. Comfee on Amazon.

Trust me, it can be. We got ours due to a sensory issue and it turned out to benefit everyone.
Paper plates and less dishes. We have similar issues. We rinse dishes immediately and use a small basin to soak silverware. It’s not perfect but a dishwasher means the dishes need to be put away before you can use it. Small issue but it compounds quickly.
Glad you found the right approach for your household. It's such a relief when we can remove little stresses from our lives.

I have that exact one! I bought it because I'm not fucking hand washing all the tiny bits inside sippy cups. They've got non-spill valves and fuck knows what else in there. It's my countertop sippy cup and silverware washer and it's performed admirably for the past two years.
My plates don't fit, though.
Don't get me started because no joke I say 'I love my tiny dishwasher' to my family at least once a week. Uses only 1.5 liters of water, much less than I would washing by hand or in a standard size dishwasher. Perfect size for one meal's worth of dishes / food prep for our 3 adult household. Awesome to pop all the pet dishes in there too! I run it about twice a day and am thrilled with how clean things come out.
Also has a produce wash cycle. I love my tiny dishwasher, well worth what we paid for it.

If you're not hooking it up to plumbing you put the hose into a container and empty the container. Before we hooked it into our plumbing we just used a bucket and emptied that into the toilet once the cycle was done.

1.5l for the entire cycle?? If that's accurate that's actually pretty impressive, I doubt I could hand wash and rinse very many items with such a small amount. What about the drying and hot water, does it have supplemental heating or it just relies on the tap water temperature?
OK, I own this error. I just checked the manual and it is actually 5 liters. Sorry about that. It comes with a pitcher to fill it but we hooked it up to the plumbing so I didn't remember how much water needed to be added when it was done manually. I personally highly dislike hand washing dishes.
I got one on clearance (like, for cheap) a couple of years ago to use in my school bus conversion. It is about twice as big as the one in this photo. It has been in storage since, tho, and I've never tried it. I need to see how well it works. I may do that this week.
i have one and it is the best thing ever. totally worth it and perfect for apartments because i’m not allowed to hook anything up to the waterline. you can with mine but i just fill it up manually
I had one when I lived in my trailer that looked a bit bigger than this one, but not much. You’d be surprised how much fit in there. I could wash like 6 plates, 4 bowls, a few cups and a buttload of silverware.
The main thing I liked was that it sanitized everything after washing
I had one in college when I lived in a tiny walk up apartment in Chicago. The dishwasher had more space than my tiny, one-basin sink so it saved me room and time. Plus the cats loved to help!

ngl i took a lobby delivery that was there for a few hours just marinating in its own juices. was technically unsafe to eat by the time i got there past 5 in the morning! also, for some interesting reason the courier turned it sideways so the food juices poured everywhere in the bag. giant shawarma platter for breakfast.

For all the people seriously concerned no we did not take someone’s DoorDash order lol. Living in Brooklyn there’s a huge culture of leaving stuff on the sidewalk for others to take like furniture, food etc. Imagine the building, then 5 feet, a fence, and a pile of garbage out front with some furniture and the food resting on top. Also, we walked back over 40 minutes later and half of it was still sitting there (we didn’t take anything with cheese).
