Absolutely.
Amazingly, this is the first report from international media that bothers to look at the country situation and takes into consideration the opinion of the Dominican voters. I have been reading other reports from the BBC and others and they flat out misrepresent the issues that voters in the country care about. According to an "expert" that the BBC interviewed, all the candidates are using the issue of Haiti and fear of Haitians to gain votes, but the report doesn't even provide a single quote or action from one of the main candidates to back that up.
I expected this one to do the same, but that wasn't the case. It could have been better, as it appears that the reporter spoke mainly with people in the tourism industry and one or two regular Dominicans but didn't do a deep dive. Also, I'm not saying that Haiti is not an issue in our country politics just that is not the center of our political life.
Regarding Haiti, yes I think about what is happening across the border, I thing we should be doing more to control migration (including having people come in with a work visa if they are needed), but I don't spend the 24 hours of the day thinking about this.
The only country "next to Haiti" is the Dominican Republic. The DR is not overrun with gangs. The author of this post is trying to mislead visitors to the DR.
Things are very calm here where both local dominicans and visitors live in peace.
Tomorrow my man 💀
Is this supposed to be positive or negative?
