I don't understand why we are spending money on humanitarian aid like this. What are we getting out of it? Why do we need to just burn money like this? If anything it's just embarrassing.
And no I'm not taking a positive stand on Israli military aid either (neutral opinion in this post).
You're posting a five-day old article; it did not get "blown up" which implies it was completely destroyed via a munition; it was not even damaged "right away",
was operational for one week (is it right away or not ?). was broken into pieces that drifted away and some were beached. also 2 ships were beached. and a few sailors ended in up in israeli hospital (in critical condition i think)
aid was delivered via it before it was damaged;
20 trucks in 1 week . plan was to start with 20 in a day and go up to 150 a day

The far left don’t give a shit about how much aid gets in. It could be 0 it could be 10000 trucks a day. We would still hear the same ‘famine in 2 weeks, no petrol in 3 days’ we have been hearing since October last year.
I dont know how much of that 230m was actually spent on the pier. Like to set up the pier we have to bring out a naval group. If that naval group would have been sent out anyway, then its cost should not be included, but if we wanted it to be in port, then the cost does apply. Millitary costs are always confusing

to be fair, to spend 2 month (it was 2, right ?) building pier which gets washed away in pieces after 1 week, doesn't project "global superpower".
It’s like you people don’t read any of the articles - the pier didn’t get washed away - parts of the causeway portion was broken off and the pier is said to be soon operational in a couple of days
parts of it were beached in israel (not causeway. but big, square portion). and a couple of ships that were stabilizing it. it took them a couple of weeks to repair it in ashdod port after what they towed it back to location.

I don't know where the hell the "we spent 230 million on a stupid pier!!!!!" comes from. We deploy JLOTs during training all the time! If you see this as just another training exercise its just business as usual...
My conspiracy theory is that this was more so a military exercise that if successful is great, yay humanitarian aid. But secondary to testing deployable piers on rough waters in preparation for possible land invasions. But who knows we’ll see what the next war is like, when it’s here.

thats the thing, its no longer very true as in the past decades the army have been mothballing their ships(for these missions)...
i legit think this pier was made to show that america can still pull these type of operations off so they wont get anymore defunded.

Hey man sorry. I’m only just now getting around to watching the vid but I love that channel! It’s one of my go to’s for maritime news. But I think you misunderstood what he was saying with respect to building and maintaining an amphibious logistical capacity.
He doesn’t ever mention a degradation in overall capability. He does that mention that the Marines have phased out some of their prepositioned log stocks as part of their restructuring for Force Design 2030, but notes that the Army has maintained theirs. Which fits the information I was already familiar with.

Cynically, it might be true that this kind of humanitarian support helps Biden in the upcoming election. I really wish it didn't come down to that considering who his opponent is, but here we are. On the other hand, we are unironically the good guys, so helping people not die is a worthy thing to try to do.
Same reason people spend money on Chemo just for the cancer to reoccur. It's better to try and do the right thing than to do nothing because it might fail.
