Also what is the oil capacity? Google has a few different answers

It’s my moms car, I’m just getting it ready to sell cause she needs money
If it has a cat, use mobil 1. If it doesn't, I recommend Valvoline VR1 for high zinc.
You should be able to find a service manual PDF online. It won't be specifically for the turbo car but 90% of the info is the same
Is there anywhere you can find a free pdf service manual for z cars??
You'll need to hunt around the google, but yes you can find it. I'm sorry, I don't remember the site I got mine on, but there's several floating around.
Don't pay for it. If you open a site that has a price tag on the screen, skip it and move on; especially if you aren't keeping it.
Thanks tho I’ve been trying to find one
No, the FSM includes the turbo parts too.
Not if it has a cat. ZDDP will poison the cat.
1.) If you can get Royal Purple, that's the brand all the old-schoolers love.
2.) the L28 doesn't need the high zinc content. You can run it, but you won't see any benefits if you change your oil every 5k. The API has been superseded so much that it doesn't even matter.
3.) the FSM says (with filter) the L28 takes 4.75 qts. You know what? I uploaded that page to imgur here .
Thank you, think the turbocharged motor has the same capacity?
Yes. Same engine, just with a turbo hooked up to it. The oil lines to/from it don't detract much.
EDIT: sort of same engine. Small differences in head/piston design.
Don’t forget the turbo head on it.
So I dived down the rabbit hole and glad I did. Thanks for pointing it out.
The FSM gives nigh exact tolerances and dimensions for both models, but indeed the head (and pistons+rings) are different between the L28E and L28ET. There are other various misc internal differences, but those are the big ones.
Also, TIL the '83 L28's have a completely different piston and head design and Japan (supposedly) never got the 180 HP L28ET in their market.
And here I am been treating my Z24's like they are old Ford flatheads and always using high zinc when I don't need to lol.
I still use high zinc because of the flat tappets
Came here to mention this, got an 82 and she eats what she eats.
We're in 2024 fam, RP is not good oil lol
Yes. The only oil I choose for mine
yes i am sure it is. But the old school guys just run shell rotella t4 or something similar. Those diesel oils also have the high sinc old motors need.
This is what I use in my 240.
Should work fine.. I run Amsoil in my Z as, believe it or not, it made a considerable difference in running temps and performance - and this coming from a guy who thought synthetic oils were just a gimmick.
Not if you have a cat
Cheap Walmart oil if your selling it. Lucas makes good stuff but you still have to use it correctly.
Buy a service manual. This will have all these answers and more. The oil you use is entirely dependent on what temperature you plan to drive the car at. Just make sure it has a high zddp content
