Cool. Any reason their nest are so exposed and fragile?
Makes me think of the Killdeer birds that build their nests in gravel. I see them all the time on gravel oilfield locations. Killdeers are neat little birds though. They fake injuries to lure you away from their nests.
I have several of them at my farm. I put bright colored survey flags up near nests so I don’t squish anybody.

I remember my mom tried to chase away the neighborhood cat when one of these nested in our gravel. Sadly, mom eventually found a mess of yolk and blood.
