I bought the Dyson V10 on sale for $400 a few months ago and am having issues with it. Can I exchange it for another one even if it’s not on sale right now?
Costco does not do exchanges.
Have you ever cleaned the center cylinder filter? Take it out, run hot water over it, let it dry overnight, and then put it back in.

Ah dang that always fixes mine when it starts doing that.
What about cleaning out the internal part where the dirt comes out into the bin? Mine often clogs there with dog hair and I get the burst on and off.
My warehouse wouldn't let me do it, not sure if others are different. But I believe Dyson covers it under warranty.
It should still be covered under Dyson’s warranty. They are pretty easy to deal with in my experience. Had some problems with mine and they sent me a new battery and charger.
Read the Dyson troubleshooting guide. Dysons are designed to do this if something is blocking the airflow so the motor doesn’t burn out. This is user error.
Wow, snarky eh? I've owned Dyson products for 15+ years and have / had 4 vacuums from them. I had one fail in exactly this manner. Dyson replaced it.
I don’t think it was intended to be snarky, I think it reads that way because reading text you can add your own inflections. They’re correct in that the motor does this automatically to protect it and alert the user of reduced airflow. Sure they can fail eventually but if it’s relatively new and doing this it’s unlikely to have failed and more likely it’s a result of a user error.
Fair enough. This sub is toxic if you say anything against the hivemind. Really, I supplied a personal example of what OP is experiencing and it was a failure, not use error. The manufacturer replaced the defective unit.
Check the Costco flyer. The Dyson V10 is on sale again starting 6/19.
I returned mine after 4 months because of that.
There are no exchanges. You will need to see if they accept it as a return and then purchase a new one at whatever price it is at.
I have returned two Dysons - the V8 - both clapped out at about a year. After that I just bought a vacuum cleaner with a wire.
They will only give you the refund value of what you paid
I'd go through Dyson rather than Costco for ethical reasons. It's not Costco's fault you bought a defective product. Make Dyson pay for fixing it.
Ethical reasons? Costco and their vendors have a business relationship that has handling issues like this built into it.

Costco often has vendors on the hook for product returns or builds it into their pricing. They have tons of purchasing power and leverage. Costco will be fine.
No return it to costco. Dyson will ultimately give you the run around. They get credit for most returned items, what they don't get credit for they liquidate and get money from either way
This is the right answer. Follow Dyson's troubleshooting steps on the website, then give them a call. Their warranty is fairly generous in my experience.
Mine would shut off too. It works a bit longer if you hold the lever for about 5 seconds while it’s still charging on the charger. Then remove it and it will work longer than the few seconds. Also check the floor attachment to see if anything g is blocking the flow of air.
Agreed with others, call dyson they will send you a new one.
I once had to return an item I bought on sale, after the sale had ended, and they issued me a special reciept, a "raincheck" of sorts, and when I went through the checkout with the re-purchase, they honored the sale price...
That was a few years ago though, may have changed since then.
ETA: with the reciept indicating sale price, of course.
Buy another one and return the old one at the new higher price you just paid. This has been suggested to me before by the Costco employee when my desk failed. The only issue you may have is if they track serial numbers with purchases, but I don’t think they do this.
Buy a new one, return the defective one. It’s the workaround to them not doing exchanges.

If you have a Dyson store near you I’d go there - they’ve fixed all my issues I’ve ever had for free.
One of the few companies that truly support their products.
Sounds like a battery issue or a clog. Do you have the issue with all the attachments or just the floor vacuum? Dyson is great with support when it’s under warranty have you tried reaching out to them?
You can chat with support through WhatsApp. I had the same problem with you and they ended up sending me a new part. I don’t have that issue anymore.
Return it and buy a Shark.
You'll be happier with it's performance and it's less than $400.
We have one, it’s pretty mediocre. Terrible for getting pet hair out of carpets.
That's funny, because that's why I gave away our Dyson a decade ago. The shark is better in every way.
I’m not convinced dyson is any better or worse when it comes to the stick ones. What did you go for?
I had a $200 hoover with a built in rubber brush that worked wonders for a decade. Now anything comparable is $$$.
Return it, then buy another.
