Relocating from south ga where we have Parker’s kitchen. What is the go to gas station for food?
I miss it so much, didn’t realize how much I loved it till I left lol
Gotta get away from the humidity pheeww
I have to go to AL for work a few times a year, that shit hits me like a brick wall walking off the plane. Dry heat is manageable and you can actually be outdoors in it, not that shit.
I'd say ignore the recommendations in most of this thread. I lived in North Georgia and was craving good gas station biscuits or something like it. There is nothing like that here. You can try looking every 3-6 months but you are just setting yourself up for disappointment. That's a southern thing and CO is considered part of the West. It's different. Brunch and Diners are a thing out here though so you can try to enjoy that instead.
Rudy’s is the only place I know of where you can get BBQ and fill up your vehicle with gas too.
Rudy’s is more restaurant than gas station though, buts it’s still damn good bbq
A gas station what? Yeah...we don't do that here.
There's a QT in Monument now, so that should be something familiar. Other than that, Maverik is another option.
I tried the QT for the first time and was surprised at how much stuff they had. The brisket sandwich was pretty good. I have no frame of reference for good gas station kitchens though.
Gas station kitchens are like full mini restaurants attached to independent gas stations and they offer a couple of options of one, maybe two types of food. In Georgia, a common one is biscuits, with chicken, bacon, gravy or plain. That's it. But they make them fresh every morning and they taste damn good and are sold out by lunchtime, sometimes before then. And then that's it, they don't make anymore. Some places do tacos, burritos or some other quick food. QT just heats stuff up mostly, they don't actually MAKE it. I've looked for this here and there's really no options in COS. It's a very rural southern thing.
Now I want to go try one of these gas station kitchens. :D
I haven't been impressed by any Maverick. Also, while I don't often get food from gas stations I haven't seen anything in the Springs as good as stuff on the East Coast.
haven't seen anything in the Springs as good as stuff on the East Coast.
Me either. Heck even a Wawa would do.
You're in for a culture shock. What you are talking about doesn't exist here. Unless you're looking for hot dogs on a roller or a slice of pre-made pizza, you're gonna be missing home.
I'm from the land of Kwik Trip. It's still nowhere close to Parker's Kitchen and the like.
Well, you could probably take a drive to the new Buc-ees, but it isn't exactly close. However, if you have a fast motorcycle and you aren't stupid enough to videotape the trip, you can make it in no time.
Oh boy, you're not gonna like the answer lol. I'm from Louisiana/Texas, the food is not the same as the South, same with grocery stores. Just about everything else in life is better than back home, but good local food, and gas station food does not exist here that I have seen.
Edit: Just to clarify, normal gas station food exists(hot dog, taquitos, maybe a taco place), but there are no local/independent gas station food options. I'm not sure that even registers with people as a thing here.
Yeah the people in this thread recommending Mavericks or 7-11s have no clue what OP is asking. Went on a hunt for this like 3 months ago and it just doesn't exist here. Such a let down. And these people have no idea what they missed out on by being so ignorant. Just sad all around.
There are no more Kum & Go in COS they are all now Maverik, I'm surprised many people are recommending them. I worked with both companies through that, all in the kitchen coincidentally.
Maverik is good but nothing like the wonders of southern/east coast gas station food. The chicken sandwiches are moving to Maverik's menu (or at least were supposed to when I was there). Kum & Go had better pizza when made right but Maverik's system is a lot more consistent.
We do have Rudy's but that is more of a BBQ restaurant with gas pumps for some weird reason
Every time I go into a Maverick they're out of most of the fresh food, half the drinks are out of order, and the place just generally feels run down and lifeless. I'm hoping part of that is just from the takeover and it gets better.
I don't think we do that much here. I guess there's hunt pizza, but I don't think it's very good nor special. Try some food trucks though, the sketchier the better!
I'm from the south (NC). They don't do that here. However, Maverick has some good food but it's not like what you'll see in the south.
There a QuikTrip in monument and a few more in Denver, and on top of that, they opened a Buc-ees in north Denver.
As far as CoS? No, sadly. I think it’s Alta who sells Godfather’s pizza though.
Hey I’m from South GA! Maverik/Kum & Go is your best bet, but really not even close.
Thanks! Everyone’s commenting “why would you wanted gas station roller dogs” buts not like that here 🥲
Firehouse on the Run in the Black Forest is the only thing I have found close to what you are looking for.
Years ago there use to be a grocery store on Academy/Platte area that use to run a chow hall style breakfast/lunch menu. That was some damn good eating. Unfortunately it closed a long time ago.
I agree with most of the posts. If being a fat, unhealthy slob is important to you Colorado will be a disappointment.
Jesus Christ lmao gas station food is so different there
This is my chair
I’m from Kansas, so I have to say QT. We finally have one here 🙌
I'm cornfused. Is there something special about food that comes from a gas station? Or, is there certain food that is only available at southern gas stations? Is a gas station and a convenience store that also sells fuel two different things?
We've got lots of places to purchase fuel, and lots of places to purchase food. They're often very close to each other, but it may indeed mean needing to drive to two locations, instead of one.
The place that I’m talking about has a kitchen which an entire Menu. They have a chicken sandwich that was always deemed better than Zaxby’s or Chick-fil-A in my town
While the springs isn’t known for its fine cuisine, I can say gas stations aren’t high on the list of where we seek out food.
That being said, Maverick is nice. Kum & Go is a funny name. 7-11 always had the best liquid cheese.
Coming from Texas and the gas station taquerias I feel this post, but alas, gas station kitchens aren’t a thing here besides the usual fare. It’s all good though bc I’ve found some quality taco food trucks here. 🌮
There’s one in Pueblo that has burritos, etc. MAKS, off the Illinois Ave exit. Really good breakfast burritos. Haven’t been there at lunchtime yet.
Look up Firehouse on the Run in Black Forest. Pretty good BBQ in the gas station there. The gas is pricey and the BBQ is pricey but it’s,pretty tasty and their smoker is running often.
It’s in New Mexico on the way to Texas
I wish we had Wawa’s out here?
Mavericks
What you thought about food and gas stations and grocery stores in the South do not exist here. We have Whataburger and In N Out and a lot of "fast" food restaurants, but you're going to be sorely disappointed in the quality of anything here besides some really quality food trucks.
A what now? Are you asking who has the best roller dogs and least stale doughnuts? Gas stations and kitchens do not compute.
You’ve never had the southern experience 😫 it’s not Roller dogs and cold pizza here. It’s fresh made chicken, biscuits and even baked goods!
Maverick/kum&go/Good2Go is/was pretty good. Breakfast pizza is the best.
Make your own sandwich if you value your gut's peace
Geez I could tell most of you guys are all transplants, few loaf and jugs used to have Chester chickens which was really good, then Kum and Goes we're pretty decent, and they've all been replaced by Mavericks, but I recently had there brisket burrito and I would say that's pretty decent. So I guess with what I have to choose at this point in time, it would be Mavericks. Buc-ee's and Publix and all that stuff that's definitely not from this state.
That's not the kind of food he's talking about.
My partner swears by the Kum & Go chicken sandwiches and he is a bit of a gas station connoisseur lol
Kum & go had been bought by Maverik and most, if not all of Colorado's locations should be converted to Maverik by now or by end of August. Maveriks food menu is far different from Kum & Go's and the most of their menu is scrapped for Maverik's.
Oh man, we are returning soon after 4 years. He will be disappointed.
You're gonna miss Publix....and yeah gas station food isn't really a thing here. Sorry, but atleast its not 100+ with 100% humidity.
