First week in my new house and the neighbors have been setting off fireworks from 7pm-midnight every night since last Friday. I give em a pass for now since it's every American's god-given right to set their house on fire at least once but my patience is starting to wear thin.
Mine doesn't give a shit about them, but it's still annoying. People near me were setting off fireworks well after midnight last night.
My pets give them all a big middle finger
I'm deaf but the poor cats hate it
I'm really lucky that my cat's chill about it. If he wasn't I'd be a LOT more pissed.
Lucky you, even deaf I can feel the vibrations of those big boomers someone setting off. The cats been hiding behind the furniture
I just feel bad for the animals. Pets, homeless pets, and wildlife 🥺
And war veterans
Bless ALL war veterans! I thank them for all they’ve endured for the love of the USA. 🇺🇸
We're doing alright, to be honest. It was warm enough that I put the window unit on tonight, and it drowned out the big show the next town over. That being said, it all feels a little too good, and I'm sure I'm gonna wake up to my old boy dog shaking and panting two inches from my face at about 3 in the morning.
I'm just happy that my two are safe and cozy in the house. I loathe this holiday for any escaped pets, strays, feral, and wildlife. Also, the folks with PTSD that are in misery because of this stupid obsession with shitty little explosions that some people have.
I used to love fireworks shows when I was a kid. The colors! The sounds! The music! I was about 12 when I caught the look on my dad's face as he watched the display. That faraway look in his eyes, and the silence afterward soured me on it all.
It’s been good- the kids have been enjoying it
This past Saturday was the one area's night for fw, then tonight and tomorrow is for the other two. Neighbors might or might not be shooting off tomorrow; I'll be giving my dog CBD treats ahead of time just in case.
My neighborhood starts firework season towards end of May
When did we go from actual fireworks to just explosions?
Twinsburg here. Of course I'm trying to hang out with my cats, and they hid under the stairs of the basement. One of my parents' cats is terrified, and the other one doesn't care (or may not hear them).
It really depends on the suburb. Unfortunately the one I moved to 3 years ago (Parma) people blow them off all fucking year from spring to end of fall. Winter is the only peaceful time here, I swear.
I sleep with earplugs in when I can but when I have to hear a morning alarm, I can't do that.
Can confirm this as a Parma resident as well
Avon is similar. They suck flags hard there lol
Oh you poor baby.
It's so annoying. Especially the people who wait until midnight.
My mom has this hilarious vid from her nice development last year of neighbors doing that and shes just filming it and some teen boy next door opens his window and screams ‘knock it off!!!!!!’ And sounded so scary lol
My neighbors set off fireworks till about 2 am, then there was the drunken cheering, so, I’m running on maybe four hours of sleep lol, I love fireworks time usually but this has been hard ( my homemade cocktail is holding me together…somewhat).
Sure beats gunfire. But then again, this is reddit and I'm sure most people here assume 12am Jan 1st is a bunch of fireworks.
Just got back from my 3rd trip to American Fireworks in Hudson. Gonna be having a blast in West Park all weekend
I’m sure your neighbors are thrilled (no they’re all not)
You seem like a big cry baby. I can assure you most people would prefer my company to yours.
I'm not a fan. Across the street it sounded like an explosion went off while I was on a work meeting.
Personally I’m indifferent, as long as you’re doing it responsibly. I just feel bad for all the animals losing their shit.
Yep have some neighbors who celebrate July 4th for 2 weeks with shitty fireworks, then leave the giant mess in the street.
Our dogs hate it.
Let freedom ring
Yeehaw
And they’ll complain about inflation eating into their budget 🤦♂️
Fireworks are actually really cheap...like really really cheap
I saw a bulk pack of fireworks at Costco today. 🤦♀️
I don’t remember receiving as many adds/coupons for fireworks in my mail in previous years!
Rents gotta come down somehow
"Can you loan me $300 for rent this month? I spent all my money on some ink work and big stupid sparkly explosions."
-most of Parma and Old Brooklyn
Ouch
I just feel bad for the animals. Pets, homeless pets, and wildlife 🥺
It’s obnoxious and against ordinance in my city but clearly no one gives a shit about that.
Same here. No idea when it became a thing here because this is the first year they have ever talked about it publicly, but there is zero enforcement of it. Tons of people in our neighborhood shooting them off right after my toddler went to sleep last night.
Be thankful when I first moved here, fireworks started Memorial day and lasted until the middle of August.
I used to work night shift at a local hospital. It was impossible to get any sleep the week of the 4th.
Surprisingly not as bad as it has been in years past. I’m sure tonight will be off the chain. I’ve lived in my house for 14 years though so I’m used to it. Plus it helps my job have us both Thursday and Friday as holidays, so I don’t have to get mad because I’m trying to sleep. That helps a lot.

Explosively loud.
Phantom Fireworks CEO says we should all celebrate Independence Day Labor Day Memorial Day Groundhog Day New Year’s Eve New Year’s Day Christmas Thanksgiving etc………. We’ll never know how much money was funneled to politicians by these fireworks corporate leaders to legalize consumer fireworks all throughout the year.
I've lived in my neighborhood for 8 years. They start at the end of June and stop about August/September. They don't let off till about 2am. I've even heard them in December. I have 3 cats and 1 dog. The cats seem not to care but my poor dog is shaking, wont eat, wont drink and wont go outside. We give her calming liquid, it does seem to work a little bit but not much. The random booms spikes my anxiety and stress. Can't wait till is over.
Cleveland sub is all everywhere is safe, and then oh no loud noises. Smh
What's the point of living in a glass house if you don't throw stones? Or a flammable one if you're not setting fireworks off 5 feet from the porch?
I dunno. I’m not into all that. It usually last for a couple days. Damn you guys are soft. Probably ride around on one of the ole timey penny bikes and work from home, asking your S.O. to change the cat litter
Knew there’d be some of you out here
Common courtesy vs 'Murica. Cleveland is on the fence.
I feel like Cleveland has picked its side lol
My neighbors terrorise me daily much worse than fireworks
First year I’m really hearing them, this is my third summer in my house. I couldn’t believe it the first year.
Got my 1 year old pup and my sisters 1 year old pup, and neither seem to give a shit. Feeling pretty lucky cuz sounds like ww3 outside.
Constant fireworks, the same as every other night in Gordon Square during the summer.
I used to live in Seven Hills and it was horrible around the forth. Lots of fireworks being set off on my street, and all the fireworks from Parma. I’ve been in Highland Heights over a year now and it’s quiet around the 4th. I hear some noise from other suburbs but nothing close by. Even with the police station and fire department in walking distance, it’s very quiet here most of the time. Houses further apart, don’t hear my neighbors.
Damn who knew I should be in Highland HTS. Sounds like utopia.
Week? I’m not sure I’ve gone a week without hearing fireworks in several years. They’re still going at 2am. I can’t imagine what tomorrow night will be like
Im not a fan but as long as no one gets hurt, whatevs
How about you want to enjoy your property without being pummeled with stupidly loud noises from inconsiderate neighbors? As long they don’t catch your house on fire it’s all good?
It's the 4th of July. What do you expect? Get over it
Missed the point. Enjoy
Keeping me slightly on edge but the dog is snoozing lol
Melatonin helps
I remember a guy getting ready to cross the street in East Cleveland saying that he couldn't wait for this holiday to pass over as they were fireworks exploding in the background a block over. I feel the exact same way.
It’s scarier if u dont know if it is guns. I used to live semi near a sports field in Avon and they did fireworks for like 30min a night on weekends all summer so the first time i heard it, i was like, holy shit. I really thought a crazy neighbor lost it
I mentioned this elsewhere, but I grew up out in the country. After I moved out, my parents' neighbors discovered the wonder of bump stocks and tannerite. Gave me a heart attack when I had to move back home and my peaceful Sunday was interrupted by automatic gunfire and then the loudest explosion I've ever fucking heard. I locked all the doors, went down to the basement, and then called my dad, who informed me that they did that every Sunday and it was probably fine.
Also, the way you can tell the difference between gunshot and fireworks: 1. Gunfire tends to be rhythmic, since there's a limit on how fast bullets can be fired. It's also going to make a more uniform sound. Fireworks make all kinds of sizzling/whistling/crackling sounds. Lots of popping sounds super close together in lots of different pitches? Not gunshots. 2. Guns are loud as fuck. 3. This is the most important one: can you hear people reacting in a negative way, like yelling or screaming? If you can't, it's probably not gunshots (or at least, not gunshots you have to worry about).
Yep it still sounded like guns. I hated living in Avon. Then again i lived in redwood across 90 from that damn sports field lol. Lake Erie Crushers stadium. To be fair, i wasnt screaming or anything when i heard it. But on the other hand, ppl are screaming their heads off at fireworks outside right now lol. I do not recommend that redwood though. I hated it so much, for many reasons
It's illegal to possess fireworks in my city per our PD yet they're for sale in the grocery store, which seems a bit confusing as someone who is not native to Ohio nor the US in general.
Until recently they were illegal to use in Ohio but you could still purchase them here
What are you going to do when the pass runs out? I'm not against you but there's nothing to do to stop them
Post on Reddit more, of course. That fixes everything. Or buy my roommate a drum kit so we can all be miserable together.
It's everywhere in NEO. BrookPark here, and it will continue until home days next week and a few weeks later. Get used to it. It's what we do for fun.
I'm an Ohio native haha. I grew up out in the country, where the two most popular hobbies are blowing shit up and meth. Some people even combined the two (often unintentionally). I figured there'd be more to occupy people in the city, but given American history I shouldn't be surprised. Like I said, I don't begrudge people too hard since it's culturally appropriate at this time of year, I just wish I still had the half-mile buffer.
Fireworks are going off everywhere as I sit in my garage. Not my thing, but I am ok with it.
Can they maybe not do it from 3-5am on workdays? Because that’s what my neighbor did Tuesday and Wednesday.
You get downvoted but " get used to it" is the only reasonable answer. Some people don't like fireworks, some people don't like barking dogs, some people don't like children screaming, and some people don't like your load motorcycle going down their road 100 times a day. None of it means we should be banning anything, it means people need to get over themselves.
So just sit back and let others do as they wish? Don’t complain just let them be a-holes?
lmao brookpark/parma/seven hills are full of white trash clowns
It's about to turn into Cleraq tonight and tomorrow and im glad I'm not around cleveland and 30 minutes south.
I personally love it. Wish it happened more often
Waaaaaaaaahhh think of the ANIMALS!!! WAAAAAAHHHH
It’s being a civil human being. How old are you anyway?
You’re the new guy and you’re “giving them a pass”. Great way to meet the neighbors.
People in our neighborhood have been setting them off all week. One of our dogs is terrified of the noise and I feel terrible for her. I can’t wait for explosion week to be done!
