Jesus said he would draw all people to himself.

Being homosexual, trans or queer doesn't make you a non-Christian any more than being straight, cis or typical makes you a Christian.

Well I'm asexual personally, that seems to be the most acceptable LGBTQ+ identity to most Christians of all kinds.

I hate these posts because almost invariably the poster isn't actually interested in hearing an answer. If you are, here's mine:

Point the first; people wrote the Bible. However inspired by God they were, people wrote the Bible and they were bound by the limitations of language, knowledge, and culture that all people are constrained by. We can see this in several ways, most prominently in the historical and scientific errors in many parts which are problematic if you want to see the Bible as truth directly from the mouth of God, but make perfect sense if the Bible was written by people who just didn't know or understand a lot of stuff, in Paul outright saying that some of the stuff he is credited with writing was his own idea of what is best and not instruction from God, and in Jesus saying that Moses tweaked God's intent in writing the law.

Point the second; Jesus said that the commands to love God and love our neighbor are equal in importance and are the basis of the entire law. Being gay clearly doesn't violate the command to love our neighbor. The only way it can be construed to violate the command to love God is if you have already determined that God doesn't want people to be gay. This is a hard sale for me in part because of the first point; we can be sure that people's prejudices made their way into scripture, we cannot simply take everything at face value.

It is also difficult for me to take that argument seriously because telling gay people that God doesn't want them to be gay does seem to violate the command to love our neighbor. Just the belief that being gay is a sin is sufficient to cause a tremendous amount of suffering to gay people. Because churches teach this parents throw out their children, often forcing them into sex work to survive. Children are driven to suicide because their friends and family shun and harangue them. Gay people are beaten, raped, and killed because they're seen as evil, or just targets no one cares about. How can that be love? There is a lot more that could be said, but I don't think it's really important; these ideas support the weight of the conclusion.

There truly is not more to it. The two are not linked traits. One does not preclude the other.

Are we marked with the cross of Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit? Or do we just make that up?

I'm gonna be totally honest with you, it's not a respectful question and no amount of hedging or disclaimers will change that. I believe your intentions are good and I'm not personally mad, but I want you to understand that sooner rather than later. People are gonna get upset at you in this post; that's partly because a lot of us are traumatized by bad-faith people asking similar questions, and partly because of the question itself.

Being LGBTQ+ isn't a choice we make or something we can change about ourselves, so what your question boils down to as people who know that is "You're part of a demographic I think is too bad to be saved, and you never had a chance to be different". That's not a respectful or even humane thing, and I'd like you to learn that sooner and from someone who really does mean the best for you, rather than later or from someone lashing out.

It's okay to have same sex attraction, but sexual acts between same sex people is still a sin. A person can be LGBTQ+ and a Christian as long as they don't engage in homosexual sexual acts.

Every Christian will be called by Christ to look at sin in their lives. For homosexuals it could be greed, or lust, or anger - like anyone else.

The verses about homosexuality in the Bible contextualize men who sleep with men as wrongdoers who cheat, are idolators and adulterers, are thieves, greedy and drunk, are otherwise in some way corrupted - not just because they sleep with men.

So men who were sleeping with men were already bad people - not just your regular Joe being a good Christian

Somewhere, somehow, homosexuality was connected with sin.

In fact - Jesus comes and says nothing at all - except that we leave gender and sex here in the dust, along with money when we die. They do not follow us where we are going. Be clean about what you are doing.

Then it becomes clear for me how to understand sin and what repentance is - and how these verses apply to me;

• The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

It's not because people are homosexual and have Homosexual sex.

Sin is deeper than this. Wickedness is deeper than this

Don't kill. Don't steal. Don't prostitute. Don't lie. Don't cheat others. Don't rape. Don't have sex on altars in Church. Don't be angry, jealous, bitter. Don't trade in hate. Like this.

God does not care whether you are homosexual or heterosexual - he cares whether or not you are a liar.

I think we will find a God who asks how much simpler we needed it to be.

I know we can read the Bible, interpret it, extrapolate from it, and apply it to our lives.

What you should not do is add to it and claim it says things it does not.

1. Jesus never actually talked about homosexuals.

2. Homosexuality at the time was radically different than it is now, so those who talked about it in the Bible were more accurately referring to perverse rape than simply loving a person of the same sex.

How can you lie and be a Christian? How can you steal and be a Christian? How can convicted murderers be Christians? It comes down to salvation by the blood of Jesus, not by your sins or good deeds. If a practicing homosexual person receives the love of Christ then they do. This is not a “salvation issue”.

Those people aren't practicing what they believe in. They are being who they are.

I think we have to believe it's okay to be LGBTQ+ or we're simply huge hypocrites. Jesus (not Paul, not Levicticus, but our actual Savior) said that with a single exception, those who get divorced and remarried are committing adultery. But our churches are filled with people who have been divorced and remarried. How can we possibly tell others about the sliver in their eye when we won't acknowledge the plank in ours? Too many of us are taught justifications through sermons when the words of Jesus don't say what our pastors and priests want them to say.

You can’t. As much as I hate Pastor Steven Anderson, he does have a rock solid grasp on Romans 1, FOR THAT TIME PERIOD. The problem is when you start applying that out in today’s world, there’s only half truth to it. It is true that homosexual men are far more likely to fall into sex addiction, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, worshipping celebrity idols, wanting to be praised and revered for beliefs that are anti-Christian, etc. The problem is when you asked what causes homosexuality, it is not an abandonment of opposite gender relations, like Romans 1 said, but many never had the attraction to the opposite gender to begin with. My question is then: what did these people do in childhood that was so bad that God decided to reprobate these people? This is a challenge to the entire Christian faith being the ultimate source of truth, and many in the faith know that deep down and hate it. So to answer your question: wishful thinking. Also, I’m autistic, diagnosed at 5, so I know what it’s like to have neurodiversity engrained into my very core being, so this can easily be mistaken for divine intervention in some people’s belief systems.

here’s my answer from someone who’s known they had same sex attraction since they were 12 and had a serious same sex relationship.

i started becoming religious then fell in love with a woman and dated her for 7 months. those 7 months were full of pain and suffering that led me to self harm and basically hate my life. the breakup was even worse, quite literally destroyed me. when we broke up, i felt lost and reached back out to god.

since then, ive basically put same sex attraction under the lust umbrella: being lustful is a sin, and one should try to avoid acting upon it, so that’s exactly what i do. i know i’m attracted to women, but i don’t act on it and would never date a woman ever again. the bible condemns it, that’s the end of that. there’s uncertainty around whether the bible really meant homosexuality was bad instead of pedophilia, but id rather be safe than sorry. i do not want to stray far from god ever again and christian lesbians are hard to find, plus just a whole multitude of things.

so short answer, i accept my attraction but don’t act on it.

Who are you to judge the validity of someone else’s faith? Leave that up to Jesus to do. Being gay is a sin the same way lying and cheating are sins. None of us can be perfect Christians, we all are grappling with our sins and walk with god.

The very nature of this post is honestly not very respectful, contrary to the way you open it. You write as if you're open but you immediately follow with "I believe it is a sin," which shuts off anything and anyone who doesn't support your ideology. It seems pretty clear that you're not really interested in being disproven. Hell, the title itself automatically shuts down every queer Christian you claim to seek input from. Your first sentence instantly denies the validity of being a Christian who is queer. How do you think redheads would feel with a title that says "How can you be Christian and have red hair?" Adding "respectfully" doesn't make it less judgmental and accusatory.

I approach it this way, although people don't seem to understand my point. Let's say the issue is different, not LGBTQ but let's say instead the issue is stealing. Can you be a thief and a Christian? Of course the answer is yes, but the question is what do you do about the stealing? Do you just keep on stealing even though you know it's a sin? Stealing things is in some people's nature, it's a weakness they struggle with. If they get an opportunity to steal something and get away with it, they will. Some might be strong enough to stop themselves knowing it is wrong, others might not. But either way, it doesn't change the fact that Christ died for our sins 2000 years ago, and if we believe that gospel, that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was resurrected on the third day, we are saved. This overcomes all sin. Paul spoke directly on this:

Paul speaks of the past, when people under the law were required to adhere to the law as part of their salvation requirements, and the key word here is "but." In other passages Paul uses the term "But now." When he says that he's referring to the fact that things had changed. Paul was given a new gospel of salvation by grace through faith, with that faith being in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ as payment for our sin debt. Notice that he also says all things are lawful unto me (we aren't under the Law any longer) but that that doesn't mean that it's expedient or right to do. The point is that we are saved today by God's grace, not our own efforts. Paul elsewhere wrote that we have liberty in Christ, not that it is right to use that liberty to sin, but still we have that liberty. A drunk doesn't stop being a drunk necessarily because he comes to the faith, and a thief doesn't necessarily stop stealing things, just as an "effeminate" doesn't necessarily stop engaging in what we call "gay" behavior. The right thing for all sinners to do is to stop or not engage in the behavior, but Christ's sacrifice overcomes all things.

The reason Christians believe it’s okay the be LGBTQ+ is because they believe the bible isn’t Inerrant. My denomination has reason as one of its core pillars of understanding faith. In the face of all the evidence that queer people are normal, the only conclusion is that they’re welcome and loved.

Before going into that you first need to sort out how you feel about how the Bible should be read.

If you feel that every word in the English language Bible should be regarded as literally true and exact, and that looking at the context and situation and circumstances and possible thought behind Bible passages is only appropriate when there seems to be some ambiguity about what the English words say (if then), then the explanations for why it is contended that the Bible doesn't condemn LGBTQ+ people or acts are almost certainly not going to satisfy you. (The short answer, but not really helpful when this brief and unexplained, is that the Bible appears on first glance to be talking about LGBTQ+ issues in several places but either isn't talking about them at all or isn't talking about them clearly enough to condemn people or acts for them.)

But if you're open to "looking behind the curtain" in order to properly understand Bible passages, then the explanations may satisfy you.

That decision is at least related to your position on the questions of Biblical inerrancy, infallibility, and perspicuity.

But if you're inclined to take the position that "When my NASB says 'homosexual' in 1 Cor. 6:9, it means that or something very close to it and I won't hear of anything else." then there's probably no explanation which will satisfy you.

Actually yeah, which I think is pretty great! I don't think what we in the LGBTQ+ community are describing and talking about is fundamentally the same thing that gets condemned in the Bible; I think the apostles misunderstood what homosexuality is and what causes it, and made reasonable conclusions based on what they thought was true at the time. We know differently from science and the testimony of the LBGTQ+ community, so we ought to make our conclusions based on that, the teachings of Jesus, and comparing the fruits born from homophobia with those born from affirming our queer brethren.

I think on the second and third counts, the balance clearly lands in favor affirming LGBTQ+ people and welcoming them and their "lifestyle" (I use scare quotes cause that's not really appropriate language for this topic). If you want to know more about the first one, there are lots of places you can find resources but I give a brief summary of what I think are the strongest biblical answers to each major passage here .

Homosexuality is condemned in the Old Testament and New Testament. But I know in Acts it says we don't have to follow Mosaic laws.

I am skeptical that you actually want an answer and am not interested in debating the point, but on the off chance you do want an answer:

I don't live under a disciplinarian called the Law because I'm a Christian, not Jewish. Paul is very clear on that point. Which is a perfect transition to Romans. Orgies, the exploitation of the human form for base pleasure via fornication, is absolutely a sin. Regardless of the genders involved. Doubly so in the context of idolatrous mystery cults, which is what Romans 1:29 is actually talking about. However, we have a process of sanctifying lust into something holy. It's called marriage. That's literally what Paul says about any marriage, again, regardless of genders involved. That it is better for you to remain unmarried, as I [Paul] am, but it is better for you to marry than to burn with lust (quoting from memory so I may have misremembered the exact phrasing). Regardless, it shows that the purpose of marriage is to sanctify otherwise sinful behavior into something holy. Not because it makes children (as many falsely teach) but because it brings those actions under a sanctifying covenant. Ergo, the solution for Queer folk is the same as the solution for straight folk, get married and be monogamous. Also, I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Anyone regardless of who they are canbe Christian, it doesn't really matter if people think they are sinful or not, just let God be the judge. Even the most heinous criminal can be Christian, and the kindest person could be an atheist.

It’s a sin to commit homosexual acts, thats simply just part of the Christian belief. I dont intend to be callous or rude to those who believe otherwise it’s just an observation relevant to this post. Homosexual people are people with an inclination to commit sexual sin, as most people are, the separation that you want to do it with the same sex doesn’t make you more of a sinner, the compliance and allowance of these urges is what makes you a sinner and what ultimately damns you. If a gay man fights his sexual urges like the rest of us, he is just as Christian. Because being LGBTQ+ is a uniquely difficult sin to contend with.

Imagine (I imagine you're heterosexual and did not choose to be) that for some reason everything switched and we found out that being heterosexual was condemned by God. How easy would it be for you to give up sexual activity for the rest of your life? Some people could do it, certainly. But many of us would find it impossible.

I am heterosexual and wanted to be a monk for 15 years. I prayed for it regularly. I prayed to be able to be celibate, but I could not. It's beyond my ability to give my whole life to God in that way. I'm married now.

Knowing that it would be impossible for me to do that even though I really wanted to, I can't think any less of LGBTQ+ folks who can't do it either.

First of all, clearly you can be LGBTQ+ and Christian because there are, for example, gay Christians. What else is true of them is where the issues arise. There are said to be four "sides": A, B, X and Y. These are respectively affirming, celibate, ex-gay and New Creation (which I don't understand).

However, I think you may be emphasising certain letters over others here. LGBTQ+ includes intersex people, for instance people born with unusual reproductive systems. It doesn't seem Christian at all to say that people born with a deformity are not able to commit to Christ sincerely. The question is then, how many other categories are similar to that?

My own approach: yes, the Bible absolutely is homophobic, in the New Testament as well as the Old. However, it also implies Earth is flat but there are very few Christians who believe that. The question is then, why do we ignore the parts which imply that but not the homophobic parts? It's as absurd to claim that the sexual expression of love between two like-gendered adults is any more sinful than between differently-gendered adults.

Regarding T, which I am: God told me to stop lying, so I transitioned. That bit is extremely simple.

Jesus tells us all sin is equal except blasphemy. To think of sin is to sin nonetheless also. If these things are true (they are), then I could ask you how can you lie, fornication, commit gluttony and still be Christian? Sure, Levitocus calls homosexuality an abomination against God, but how do we know that all other sins aren't also?

What thoughtsvor concerns bring you to ask this question?

People may have all kinds of weird tendencies and fetishes.. But God has blessed them with self control to avoid indulging in those behaviors.. The Christian religion is incompatible with the LGBTQ lifestyle, but it certainly has a place for those with such tendencies who choose to exercise self control and stay away from such behavior.

Because nowhere in the bible does it explicitly say it’s a sin. It’s just how people interpret the word of God which of course after centuries is open to much manipulation, especially after being translated over 15 times since its original creation.

Homosexuality is a sin.  This is clearly listed in the Bible.  This has never been questioned in 2000 years of church history.   Today we have liars and false teachers that question it.

There is no prohibition of a genuinely loving, committed relationship between two people who happen to be the same sex in the Bible.

Anything that speaks about homosexuality is in reference to sexual acts taking place between people of the same sex.

For anyone who is committed to someone of the same sex, if they are both practicing celibacy, what sin are you attributing to them in maintaining that relationship?

For people in such relationships who are performing sexual acts with each other, I’d ask both them and you to examine the historical context for what eventually got translated to “homosexuality” in scripture, examine your consciences, and try to make good choices.

Have you actually examined those verses you reference with your conscience, or have you simply read the commonly referenced verses that talk about this and agreed with other people’s conclusions about them? Any conclusion you have made about scripture should be yours, even if it resembles those of others.

Okay OP you say the Bible states that it's sin to be LGBTQIA. But it doesn't. Most modern translations use the word homosexual in the New Testament. Leviticus is not talking about plain sex. It's talking about rape. Like don't rape a man as you rape a woman. And I'm fact, the Bible wasn't even translated as most translations are today until 1946. Before that they didn't use homosexual but referred to the practice of pedastry which was common I'm the Roman Empire and most of the New Testament was written in the Roman Empire. And pedastry was not and uncommon practice either. Other civilizations had it as well.

You say you believe things about what the Bible says. But I believe the Bible actually doesn't say those things. And that's because the concept of homosexuality didn't even exist until the 19th century. That's 1800 years after the events of the Bible.

Moreover, LGBTQIA people back in biblical times were actually called eunuchs. This is actually a historical fact. If you believe something different about the word eunuch, I suggest you do some research on it.

Jesus knew about eunuchs. He knew they were a group of people of many types. He knew some of them were born the way they were. He also identified with them as he willingly did not marry. And if you look up eunuch in the Greek you will see the broad meaning.

Paul was not against same sex relationships. He was against excessive lust as he says clearly in Romans 1:24.

Lust I'm the Bible is not just sexual desire. It refers to covetedness just as it says in the 10 commandments. It is a desire to take or control. And a great example is what David did in his relationship with Bathsheba. He was also judged by God for it - 2 Samuel 11 and 12.

Biblical lust therefore is an excess of desire where one loses control of their senses. This is the sin.

What is taught in many Conservative and Evangelical Churches on lust is false and leads to many pains and even run-ins with the law. We see it all the time in the news. Their horrible fruit is obvious to the world.

But being bisexual, homosexual, asexual, intersex, lesbian, queer, gay, trans are not sin. Sin is never being something. Sin is always doing something. And giving love and wanting love is never, ever sin.

Can you remarry and be a Christian? (Respectfully)

I don't have a problem with them, I just believe remarried people live a life of sin just as much as an LGBTQ+. Jesus backed up the excuses for divorce that Moses gave, but then said anyone remarried commits adultery.

Catholic here, here's my very incipient view on how the Church views it. it's perfectly fine to be attracted to the same sex, or grapple with the mental aspect of Transgender stuff.

God loves people of any nation, any color, and sexuality, no matter how deep in sin they are. And can be forgiven by Christ/Father if their heart is truly sorrowful and guilty for their sin/not living up to God's standard (If you're a Sacramental Christian, you do this through prayer and confession).

But being a Christian also means putting Christ first with the help of his Kingdom on Earth's calls of moral issues. That means gay marriage and homosexual acts and the near occasion of them is a sin. As well as the act of rejecting God's physical gifts and plan for you-- meaning it is a sin to decide to change your gender or act in a way that is contrary to your Gender ( men acting effeminate-- passivity and being soft/avoiding difficulty for example )

I am still not within a good understanding on what this means in depth. And take my words as a low-resolution version of the Vatican's verdict. But I know and trust the Church's teaching on the matter and am willing to obey them as the body and Kingdom of Christ on earth : )

God exists. Being gay doesn't stop someone from realizing God exists. Becoming Christian does not turn you straight. Thus, gay Christians exist.

I believe if the church condoned LGBTQ+, it’d be a lot more common and our natural socio-economic structure would suffer. Abortion would be more common as would child trafficking and molestation. Older folks would flourish whilst the youth would falter in various ways mostly associated with sexual acts. I also believe God looks down upon LGBTQ+ activity for this reason. It’s as if the police would condone cocaine use. Then the DARE program would suffer. God has placed people in authority to handle situations where this kind of stuff arises en masse.

In Leviticus 18 God defines Sexual laws.

I think God is defining Sexual Immorality in this chapter of Leviticus.

Why would these laws only apply to Israel? Why would they not apply to all Christians?

The essence of bhakti yoga is pure devotion. There other methods but most religions have its followers do bhakti yoga with or without them knowing.

Thus with Bhakti yoga, whoever you worship must be number 1 in your life, no one should be higher. Thus if let's say Jesus said jump off a cliff or give up LGBTQ+ then you do it no questions asked.

May sound extreme but from what I know with jhana yoga it's no easy feat going from physical to non physical thus unless you're willing to take up a very hard task that may take lifetimes just trust Jesus. But if you don't seek to break free from the cycle of this world then so be it you're free to do so, after all it's not a wrong choice. Wrong only comes into play with a process.

I’m Christian and I don’t think love could ever be a sin as loving each other (Platonic or romantic) is one of the moest important things in my belief.

The bible is old so some things are a little old fashioned.. what’s important is the message behind it that stays the same and that is that a relationship where someone takes advantage of another or hurts them is bad and not two people of the same gender being in love and making each other feel better.

Well let's break it down into steps to make it easier:

1.) What is required for someone to become a christian?

2.) Does an LGBTQ+ person fullfill that requirement?

3.) If yes: they are a christian. If no: they are not a christian.

You might feel LGBTQ+ is a sin based off your interpretation of the bible, but your feelings on that matter do not change what the requirements are for being a christian.

What is your interpretation of this verse:

"Go into Bethel and Gilgal and sin all you want"

Do you believe that this is a proclamation that followers of the bible are allowed to go into these two places and sin as much as they would like? Or, is there context that is required to understand this verse? Are there aspects missing from this verse that are not found within this verse that would offer insight into what this verse means?

In other words: if context is required to understand what a verse means, and not just what the plain reading says, then perhaps the verses you are using for your views on the LGBTQ+ also require context that you are missing to understand what the verse means, rather than sticking to the plain text that it says.

Anyone can, but it doesn't mean you should stay in sin after the fact.

The simple and most effective answer is that it is better to be LGBTQ+ as a Christian than to be LGBTQ+ as an atheist. Simple math. Christ Won and beat death. FIN

How can you be a Christian and have women that are not silent at church or cover their hair?

Just take whatever justification you have for those two and apply here.

Because Ik that LGBTQ+ groups, WHEN they actually express it, are all about love & acceptance. After all, aren’t we as Christians supposed to ahem LOVE our neighbors the same way we’re supposed to love God?

I personally hate the “I love someone to the point where I have to give them the truth” approach, because by doing so, the “truth” draws people away from God instead of drawing them closer. And the same is consistent with LGBTQ+ people.

Besides, why should it be a Christian’s right to judge someone for something they don’t really understand? Furthermore, don’t Christians consider that the dating world is not as simple as the Bible once pointed out?

Another thing is, Christians are all “My wife this, my wife that, my husband that,” but as soon as you (a man) point out “My boyfriend this, my boyfriend that,” you somehow end up getting backlash,… like I did.

Lemme tell you a story: One day during men’s group at church, I pointed out MY male partner (I’m a man, about to be 26) who may’ve gone through a similar situation as the men’s wives. While leaving the group temporarily to answer a phone call from my partner, who lives in the UK, I go out of the church bathroom after the call ends, one former member from the group comes up to me & gets in my face, trying to tell me I’m wrong & that I can’t be in a gay relationship while in fellowship with Christ.

My mother, obviously very offended by it, told the group’s leader that this was disparaging towards me, being both bi & Christian, and that it was a personal attack that should’ve been left alone. The group leader & this former member talked for a lengthy HOUR about the subject, and the guy apologized for how he approached me & the subject.

My mother has said that I have chosen to close the door on female relationships, but me being bi, I technically left it half-open until SOMETHING comes along, then I’d have to consult my man about it, as well as prayerfully seeking answers from God.

But the only reason I went after a man is because of failed attempts at female relationships & a successful female relationship of only 1 month, even though God knows my situation, and the fear of rejection hitting incredibly hard. Because, y’know, what if I get turned down again & again?

I just don’t think in any way that being LGBTQ+ is a sin, and MOST especially since

1.) Gay men have lower divorce & domestic violence rates than straight married couples & lesbian married couples put together, and

2.) Gay people still share the same concept & idea of commitment, generosity, loyalty & kindheartedness that cishet people have.

Besides, over half of all marriages end in divorce, especially in America. You also can’t tell a loyal person from a disloyal one, no matter what sexuality you identify as. But as a bi man myself, I do my best to stay loyal, even if I stumble & fall. Because Ik God has my back when I make a mistake.
