Hey all! We are looking for a community/SG to join where we can make friends and tailgate with a core group of people each game. Would love to hear about the different groups and where we could find you pre-game. We attend every home game and are looking to build community and connection!
I’d love to join a SG, but they all seem preoccupied with the power that comes with the council. Also, the chants are (mostly) abysmal.
Chants are awful. Only good one is the Westwood player chant we did last game
I love the Westwood chant. I also don’t understand the aversion to the typical rinse and repeat chants that are good enough for clubs all over the world (i.e. When the Blues Go Marching In). The classics are great because people who are attending a match for the first time could easily learn the words and join in.
That’s because one group who are now on probation have been blocking them for 2 years and drum over anything like that because they don’t like it. Hopefully you noticed yesterday the tide has changed and there were more player chants and a better mix. Going forward you should see that improve even more.
I hope you’re right because last nights atmosphere was truly incredible
I agree, an unoriginal but fun chant is better than any original bad chant. No point in having a chant if it doesn't get everyone excited to join in. Nothing to be ashamed of for a new team anyway, takes time to create chants.
Oh there are PLENTY more where that came from, I assure you!
Good lol
I started following Charlotte FC last year and joined a Supported Group this year. I’ve had a great time.
I joined Southbound & Crown and they’ve been nothing but inviting and awesome. They’re a really fun group that’s focused on tailgating, promoting new chants - like the Westwood and Kahlina chant - and sitting together at the games.
They’re also big on community service and have been looking for opportunities to help out.
From my understanding, they’re a smaller group and I don’t know everyone but they’re usually at the back of the tailgate lot, playing Binho or Mario Kart or selling patches. Stop by sometime.
Southbound are good people. Not a member but friends with a lot of them. They are here for the right reasons.
SBC are a great bunch!
I keep forgetting to come over and play Mario Kart. This weekend for sure
Honestly the drama being talked about here is overblown. Every group that has been mentioned here is solid. I’m MCC it is a fun interactive group and there is ZERO drama. We talk about the players, and the games and we help out the community. I don’t regret it and I recommend it to everyone.
Thank you for this perspective. We are going to stop by during the next tailgate.
Shoot me a dm and I can meet up and show you around. No pressure whatsoever!
Depends, are you ready to not talk about fight club?
Rule # 1 ✔️
I’ll throw in my two cents regarding supporters’ groups: they’re like any community you can join, it all depends on what you’re looking for. The SGs that congregate at the tailgate at McNinch St. before every home game and welcoming to all. There’s no hazing ritual, no “we say we’re open to everyone but we’re actual not” mentality.
Feel free to drop by the tailgate before each match and walk around. Every SG has their booths where they’ll answer questions and sell swag. And if you find you like, that’s great! You don’t have to be part of an SG to enjoy the CLTFC experience, but they’re worth joining if only for the camaraderie.
Thanks all. I think priority for us is just making some friends we can regularly meet with and coordinate seating with. So even if it’s not a SG, just looking for places we can find community.
Yeah, I would love to find friends that come to the games, but joining a SG seems... Not ideal at this exact moment
Like other people have said. There are plenty of groups that aren’t involved in any drama and don’t want anything to do with it. They have good people, support the club and have plenty of community initiatives.
That’s the right reason for a supporters group. Sadly. Ours mostly seem focused on fighting, politics, and the personal power of the people at the top of them.
No there is only 1 group focused on that. The rest of the groups are focused on the team and 1 group gives supporter groups here a bad name.
If so. Then they should be banned.
Would love that but technically they aren’t going against any team policies. They are just being asshats.
Figured the fighting that was previously done within the city was against team policies. Shrug. But yeah I hear ya
MCC! Stop by tailgate and say hi!
Right now my best advice would be to find seats in 120 or in 121. 121 opens to GA (those not in the march, drummers etc) 15min before kickoff.
Come on in and get a feel for all of the groups (were all mixed in there).
We are a friendly bunch and the younger kids sit in the front row; my kid has a bit of an entourage himself now. 🤣
I am in MCC but just as easily could have joined any other SG.
I'll echo what many other have said, the "drama" is isolated to one group and is a microcosm of SGs. There are something like 3000 SG members total, for reference, maybe more.
Thank you for the seat recommendation. We’ve been hovering around 113-117 but will definitely move that way.
Just full disclosure, the drums can be loud esp for younger ones, depending on how close in 121 you are to them.
Mint City Collective. Unless you live in SC or are a big Tottenham fan, in which case Southbound and Crown
Southbound are Tottenham fans too?
The core founders of SB&C came from the South Carolina Spurs group, but there are plenty of members that aren’t Tottenham fans
We have season tix but on the other side of the supporters section as we typically bring our 5 and 8 year olds. Are the tailgates welcoming to families?
I’d opt out of this.
I'm not going to lie, your choices of a supporter group that aren't on probation are kinda slim right now.
Mint City Collective (MCC) is the largest (I believe over 2k members) and has local chapters all over the area with a pretty active community. I'm sure several of their members can chime in.
Mine is Southbound & Crown (SBC). We are mostly based in South Carolina but we have York County and Charlotte chapters for those nearby. Much smaller group (150~), but we keep it small intentionally.
QC Royals are an even smaller group in Charlotte but have an outsized impact on our community, very active group, super friendly. Invite only for them.
There's also South Charlotte and Norcas, both have amazing people I know personally but I don't know much about the groups themselves.
There are two on probation that I'm going to gloss over and not mention.
The supporters tailgate lot is a solid way to meet all the groups, you can walk around and introduce yourself and get to know them. Next week when more groups are on the lot (due to possiblity of storms today) might be a good time to check them out.
Most of the groups have a website you can check out as well to learn more.
