Frustrating too because i still see them all the time. As long as there are mechanics and inspection stations willing to look the other way, and cops that decide what laws they want to enforce, we'll have them forever.
Yeah. I don't see them often but still do see them. Probably why OP thought NC was cool with it.
it’s only enforceable by police and is not an inspection criteria
That's crazy. I would have thought it would be part of the safety inspection.
It absolutely is, but in a different way. It's the headlight height and aim part of safety inspection these trucks fail.
As a person who ran auto shops for years I can tell you head light height and aiming is almost NEVER tested. No matter how “nice” or “dirty” the shop is
I'm aware, I'm an inspector
It was more for the people who pay for the inspections, not the ones who preform them
As a kid we had inspections in South Carolina and I always wondered the real reason why they stopped doing them. I heard it was because the shops didn’t make any money on them. I guess if you aren’t making money, inspections aren’t being done correctly because it takes too much time, so why even have them then was the reason. It makes perfect sense.
If your not making money on inspections your are a bad inspector or owner. It is all about car count and small upsells. I have a friend who owns 5 inspection stations and it may surprise people how much he gets in take home every year!
$225,000 take home?
Much more….
i meant $1,225,000 🤣
Them windshield wiper scams... "They don't clear the water" yes they do, drove home in the rain after I was told that, and they were perfectly.
State inspector here. It does fail for headlight aiming. This has technically never been legal.
The headlight alignment is a criteria though, and almost none of them are adjusted downward properly, if at all.
Typical politicians, it gets a headline so they pass a toothless law that LEO will not waste their time enforcing. The easiest thing would be to make sure yearly inspection catches it, but as stated already, headlight height is rarely checked.
And the cops in 90% of NC are the same yee yee bo’s that like to squat their trucks
You dont gotta find mechanics or inspections, I could walk out into the parking lot right now and squat my truck with the tools in the back (I did this one as a joke to my wife lol). All you need is a jack and a wrench to take off the ubolts and remove the rear blocks, take it off the jack and you now have a squatted truck.
Theyll just do that after it passes inspection. It'll take police enforcement for anything to change. pull them over and tow it away and theyll stop doing it.
This should have more upvotes…everyone thinks that once a year inspection is gold
Other than the eyesore, is there anything specific you dislike about these abominations?
Edit: excluding the owners of course.
It's a safety issue. You're limiting your field of view by pointing your vehicle upward in the front. Smaller cars and cars closer to your front bumper are more difficult or impossible to see in some situations.
Them not being able to see the cars near them because they’re ready to launch to the moon.
Not on charlotte, but saw a POS Tahoe with one today, dude was speeding and riding someone’s ass too
I mean would the car in that picture be illegal if the back was raised as well and it’s not squatting? I’m assuming not because I see ridiculous raised ones every time I’m outside for more than 5 minutes. That’s the real problem now.
It would because of the height of the headlight and bumpers, but nobody cares to enforce it.
Idk, it would be close. This Link (work safe, NC Gov site) is the law
I don’t totally understand, so the headlights can’t be 42 inches above ground according to this?
It means the beam of the headlight should not be higher than 42” measured at 75’ in front of the vehicle
What??? I never would've known. Theres barely any pickup trucks in pitt county that aren't squated
So they say, and yet I've seen 2 trucks like this in the past month.
We need this too
Good thing we've had it for three years.
It must be really tough to see the road with those setups.
Saw one rear end a Miata, leaving a car show, because the driver couldn't see the little car in front
Only soy loving commies require clear sight lines
I drive by feel, and I demand to be paid in fireworks!
🇺🇸 🇺🇲 🦅🦅
That's exactly why they created a law against it. Someone got killed because a squatted truck couldn't see them.
It seems like most of them go through life without much forethought so it’s fitting.
This originated in Baja otherwise known as the Cali squat it’s a tuning set up for Baja trucks with long travel rear suspension so they can hit bumps and jumps at high speeds in the desert… the Carolina squat is lame af serves no purpose other than to make stupid people feel something and to blind normal people in normal cars
Isn’t the Cali lean only a few inches and the Carolina is a significant difference between the front and back?
We moved to LKW in 2017 and were surprised to learn there are no annual car inspections. People can do almost anything to their cars and no one cares. Glad they finally made this illegal, because SC has never SC’d harder than they did with squatted trucks.
Soooo true. I lived in lake Wylie from 16’-20’ and those dumbass trucks were EVERYWHERE
The little mark goes in front of the number, not behind, unless you're talking feet, in which case it makes entire comment unintelligible.
Well thanks soooo much I’m sure everyone was completely lost without that clarification.
Since you’re soooo much smarter than me you should know it’s called an apostrophe.
You have to be one truly insufferable asshole to get that petty over being corrected.
Probably a squatted truck driver
It's actually called "grammar".
yes fuck them trucks. those are ugly asf too
"Awe man, my cool car can no longer be cool, now nobody will think im cool" - squatters.
You don’t see them as much as you use to.
Cook Out parking lots do look more normal now than they did a couple years ago.
I haven’t seen one in a long time
Go east! Your opinion will change.
Cause most of them wrecked due to the lack of visibility.
They came and went
What we'll need is the enforcement part. Best of luck.
is draftkings® accepting bets on whether or not this will actually be enforced?
They don’t even enforce license plates here, how will they stop it?
Agreed, if they enforced half of the laws on the books we wouldn’t need the other half.
If I didn’t do my job I’d get fired, and yet police officers will completely ignore their jobs and still complain about shit
Yet when police try to enforce weed laws, this sub loses their minds.
Weed definitely injures and kills as many people as dumb drivers in unsafe and unregistered cars, so those things are completely equivalent.
It’s been illegal for years in NC
The question is WHY??!! You spend so much money to do this to a truck, WHY??!!
I always joke that they’re just too poor to finish the lift. Or that whatever cheap lift kit they bought broke when they tried to tow something
🤣😂😆😂🤣🤣🤣😆😆
It tilta headlights so they can blind other drivers. If they're ever in a wreck, the squatted vehicle is likely to keep the driver safe at the expense of who they colide with. Vehicles are designed so that if they wreck, the body of the cars will crumple and absorb most of the impact. If you run into a squatted truck, you will be facing most of the impact as the truck rolls over your vehicle.
🤔🤔🤔🤔.. All that expenses so you can blind the incoming driver?? No wonder they are getting ban.. The headlights high beam can do the same thing..
Deadass almost got ran over by one not to long ago
I drive a good bit for work. I still see probably 3 per week in Charlotte
bUt mY fReEdumb!!!
I see a group of them hanging out in a Walmart parking lot all the time.
We already have it.
Leave them country boys alone, they set their trucks this way for their sweet lovin of large than life fat girls.
Welcome Gastonia to the chat...
That awful squatty Silver Tacoma with LED’s looks like it’s taking a purple shit everywhere it goes.
ban those loud ass cars next!
not a car guy, don't know how common this is, but man I hate when one of those cars or trucks has to drive by and ruin the peace, gets me so frustrated!!
There are already laws on the books for this. Cannot be over a certain dB. Goes for stereos and bikes also. How about more cops to enforce the laws already there?
I feel like we should start making cops more competent before adding more. also not like we pass a law to create more cops
There is a squat truck that I see going down Tryon St/Hwy49 then over the bridge into SC all the time.
I must be living under a rock bc I have never seen one of these in Columbia and don’t know why they’re a problem. Can someone educate me on these?
I used to live in Columbia and saw them all the time.
They're bad because the driver has barely any visibility in front of them and if they don't adjust the headlights to point them further down (if they even go down that far), they're blasting other drivers in the face with full light all the time
Already banned
What is the reason for setting a truck up like that, anyway? I see no inherent benefit in it.
Small penis
They want attention
i would hate to see an animal or small child cross in front of it with a non attentive driver.
Good. This mod is impractical and poses a safety risk to those around you. Well, in front of you.
Same ppl complaining about the inspections are the same ones that get mad if they get failed for tires wipers or light bulbs lol
They don't enforce any other laws in SC, why would they enforce this? 😮💨
Stupid looking shite
It wouldn’t matter. From what I remember when this first came up in NC, the criteria in the law that has to be met for it to be illegal makes it to where only the REALLY ridiculous ones aren’t not allowed. Most of the ones you see are still legal, even if they look annoying and are unsafe.
I thought they were already banned
Outstanding law! NC took the lead on those a few years ago
Tbh I don’t mind lifted trucks and squatted trucks. Let’s me know which drivers are likely reckless assholes so I can avoid being around them.
Same as Altimas with flapping bumpers and fake paper tags.
That backseat must be a chapstick and meth needle treasure trove though!
Ha, NC needs more than that.
Have never once heard the phrase “Carolina Squat” in my life, would never have guessed this is what it refers to
Wish they'd pull over everyone with expired (or outright missing) tags first. More laws doesn't do much good when they don't enforce the ones we've already got.
We need a ban on pickups in general. Or more specifically, a ban on pickup drivers
Sorry I don’t mean to be an idiot but what’s wrong with squatted trucks? Do they mess up the environment more than a regular truck or what’s the reason they’re so hated? I drive a Honda so idk anything about them
You can’t see directly in front of you while driving.
So is front windshield tint. Let’s see how the enforce this.
Better ban them fast before they breed with those pointy mad-max wheels in Houston and create a Super-Beater
I doubt slabs would make it to Charlotte. Can’t say I’ve ever seen one Outside Houston.
Can we ban all lifted trucks? And loud exhausts while we’re at it?
Big mad peoples hating on things that don't affect them are funny to me
Finally. Let's ban flat bill caps, poofy mullets, and pop country while we are going down this road.
Non of those are dangerous.
Why though? Like is there a real issue with these or do you just think they are ugly?
You can't see in front of you if your car is at a 45° angle.
Ok I get it its not just like being lifted it’s like being at an angle that makes sense
It’s been many many accidents involving these due to them not being able to see what’s in front of them a lot of them started installing cameras but they still are constantly involved in accidents
Why is this getting banned, I’m genuinely curious because I don’t understand.
Because it's unsafe. The driver doesn't have a great view of what's in front of him/her when they're practically looking at the sky as they drive.
Aside from that, it seems like asking for trouble mechanically. Seems like all the fluid in the transmission would run to the back of the trans. Looks like it would make it awfully hard to get an accurate read on the trans fluid level and the oil level. I mean, I doubt most of the people who drive those things care much about mechanical maintenance, but still...
All car rigging trends are just plain stupid and shows how low your IQ is.
I don’t like these, but all I’m saying is I never see them in car crashes🤷🏾♂️

Been illegal in NC since 2021
