I recently came back to the church after almost 15 years, and I was holding hands with my family and extended my hand to hold that of a fellow parishioner, and he smacked my hand away (it was gentle not hateful) and after mass he let me know that holding hands during the Our Father was “a big no no”. I remember as a child holding hands with my family and strangers, and don’t understand why it is that folks don’t hold hands anymore. Was this something that the pandemic impacted? Or is this a more liturgical thing?
