Ok so I'm 21 and just about to get my fulls and was wanting to get something fun and I don't mind getting a loan and spending a little bit I have a low km audi a1 currently which I could probably get close to 15k for.

I'm looking at a 2003 lotus elise with 70k kms and going for 45k. From what I have seen these are very reliable in terms of the engine with the 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE also found in the celica aswell as a Toyota manual transmission.

Insurance surprised me as the average insurance rate for someone in my demographic is $1700 annually where as the lotus was only $1800 so nothing unfeesable there.

I understand lotus specific parts will be inordinately expensive but in my 5 years of driving I have never had a collision and the only damage I have ever caused was in my first year I accidentally cracked a side mirror in a carpark which was a $15 fix.

Summary I'd be able to afford the car the general maintenance and all the expensive parts are Toyota so no real qualms there so reddit why shouldn't I get this.
