Worst thing to happen to a Broadway Character

I have played drums in a couple separate productions of The Prom over the past year and a random thought popped into my head. Obviously, the fakeout prom at the end of Act I is absolutely horrifying and terribly dark. During one of our shows, I had some downtime after that sequence, so a random question came to me?

“What is the worst thing to happen to a Broadway character (excluding anything involving someone’s death)?”

I put that last caveat in there because obviously there are dozens of scenarios in shows of characters, family members, mentors, etc. dying to create the despair in the show, so I’m looking for situations that are outside of that realm.

I’m just curious on what some other possibilities are. What do you all think is the worst thing to happen to a Broadway character?
