I have no idea if this is a boomer thing or a parent thing, but I’d love to hear everyone’s experiences with this.
I recently went with my parents to a family-friends for a game night. My mother brought a cheap trivia game with her to play. We’re playing it and I hear something that piques my interest and really catches my attention. The question had to do with something I studied a decent amount as an undergraduate. I perk up and mention that this is a topic of interest to me and that I actually know a little about it. my mother rolls her eyes and sarcastically goes “suuuuurre” and laughs. I look at her confused and tell her Ive mentioned to her that I’ve written research papers on this topic before and she tells me I’m lying.

I give my answer, and she happily tells me I’m wrong. Folks, I don’t know everything, but I was confident this was the answer. So since no one else who was playing knew I ask her what the answer was and she tells me.

And it’s not the right answer. At all. Like it’s kind of difficult to explain how I knew this without going into detail, but the answer they had written done for this trivia question was just flat out wrong. I tell her this. I bring up multiple research articles on the topic confirming this. I even take out ChatGPT and ask it the question and get the answer I give. She still refuses to believe me.

She hits me with “Well if that’s the right answer then how come this answer is written on the card???!??!!?”

”Because the people who make trivia games aren’t exactly experts in STEM fields.”

I guess my boomer mother would rather believe some random trivia game maker over her child who has a masters in a relevant field.

Rant over.
