Hi guys, the podcast is going live tonight at 5pm (Pacific Time). We will be discussing ideas for the show pitched by Chuck that were scrapped, and Larry Mollin's new book "The Pool Guy's Kid." We will also be having a Q&A segment, so please submit any questions you have for Chuck & Larry below!
Ask Executive Producers/Writers Chuck Rosin & Larry Mollin Anything!
Ask Chuck to say 5 nice things about Shannen
Ask if they wrote it as Val faking her suicide attempt to be manipulative, because I truly don’t think she did and am interested in their intent.
Good one. I agree with you. She seemed genuinely devastated when Brandon said she had to leave basically immediately and David told her she was a burden. She had also lost all her money. I don’t think she was faking it.
Exactly! Was the timing awfully convenient? Yes, but let’s not pretend we didn’t see this girl’s struggles with her mental health multiple times before then. Brandon kicking her out and David saying she was a burden made her realise she had driven away possibly the only two people left who cared about her, as she had driven away Steve previously. There are a shit ton of similarities between Dylan and Val, particularly how they’re constantly driving people away to avoid from getting more hurt than they’ve already been.
100%. When she left her box of stuff in the office and told David to burn it, I think that was the moment she actually decided to do it.
What direction was the Jim and Cindy wanting another baby supposed to take? Was that scrapped because they realized no one wanted that or because the actors left? Was the idea really to give them a baby? (Cuz yikes).
Why yikes lol
Cuz Jim was the worst dad ever and Cindy never really went against him. They treated Brandon like the golden boy even after he got a DUI in high school, got into trouble gambling and had an affair with a school faculty member. But Brenda was a lifelong screw up because she hated Minnesota, almost got married and got arrested for something a lot of people are against. After all that, they certainly didn’t need a do-over baby.
Haha! Yeah, you are right. I just wanted to hear your explanation :)
I have a few questions but some might be a little spicy so if they don't feel comfortable answering them that's totally cool.
How come we didn't get many inter-racial dating storylines on the series? We finally got one with Jesse and Andrea in season 5 and later down the road with Janet and Steve in season 9/10 but why couldn't the series have explored Brandon and Sherice in a multiple episode arc instead of a one off, and why couldn't Andrea and Jordan share a kiss together? Also, Donna and D'Shawn as a potential couple is always a popular discussion on Reddit.
I hate that this can be considered spicy, but I know.
Why were they filming 32 episodes a season and how many of the actors regretted this for limiting their non-90210 projects from getting off the ground?
Probably a question for another episode...
Why did the writers have Brandon tell that story about tripping and having Donna introduce him to the gang when a) Brandon ate lunch alone on the first day, b) Brenda and Kelly were already having lunch with Donna on day one, c) Donna never mentions Brandon tripping, and d) Brandon met Steve in Spanish class and Andrea at the paper office?
Why would a writer put something in when it was so obviously not part of the story and Brandon had plenty of great stories to reflect upon when leaving, especially when the show was already in syndication by that point?
Chuck and Larry were not on the show anymore when they rewrite how Brandon was introduced to the gang. It was a bunch of new writers that didn’t watch the show and because Donna wasn’t part of the original cast they had to make her important somehow.
Why did they have Brenda forgive Kelly so quickly after the whole Dylan thing? Makes zero sense that she would go back to being friends with her after the whole debacle.
