What's going on with my beardie!? (SO ACTIVE all of a sudden?)
HelpThanks for the info! We had no idea!
I'll try my best to not trigger brumation next time... But it's hard because it gets VERY cold here.
Your best bet is to make use of ceramic heat emitters, as well as getting a more powerful basking lamp for the winter.
At night, check to make sure the temperature is maintained at ~21C, and if it's dropping below that then adjust the CHE thermostat and/or get a more powerful CHE. If your house is getting cold during the day, and you have a big enclosure, you may need a CHE as well as the basking lamp to keep the cool end warm enough (aim for ~24-29C on the cool end).
And for the basking spot, you may need to swap out the basking bulb in the winter (I switch from a 75W to a 100W). It doesn't matter how high you set the thermostat if it's not getting warm enough at 100% power, so check the basking spot temperature as it gets colder and switch the bulb when needed.
Unfortunately some of them can be stubborn and brumate even with perfectly maintained temperatures, but in my experience it mostly happens to older ones, and those don't tend to get so hyperactive after waking up anyway.
Yes, it happens to both genders after brumation. This is one reason why it's best to try and avoid triggering brumation unless you're breeding them (though some will still brumate regardless).
