Could you use the current avian influenza outbreak as a reason to start enforcing stricter biosecurity? I mean, I'm fairly lax about it: I don't wash my eggs before use, and I do use the shoes I garden in to do quick checks in the coop. But this does seem extreme, tbh
I’ve tried that. We frequently go into the woods and I told him we need to wear separate shoes for that too because of contact with areas there are waterfowl. When I worked in wildlife rehab we had to step through special sanitizer and wear booties before we could come in and work with the indoor birds.
