I'll start, credit card complementary access to airport lounges. Too many people have it na.
Any brand na mahawakan or itake over ng Jollibee/JFC. 1.)Chowking = daming nawala, dugyot pa lagi unlike dati malinis at generous pa sila sa chili. 2.)Burger King = iba quality nung dinala ng Ayala vs. JFC na nagtakeover 3.)Red Ribbon = pinakadisappointing.nawala yung palabok, salisbury steak, etc. 4.) Mang Inasal = no explanations, nakaranas ng OG na Mang Inasal know what I'm saying 5.)Yoshinoya = 🥲 yung red ginger na libre dapat ayaw nila magbigay kahit Gyudon order mo.🥲🥲🥲 6.)Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf = lalong naging walang lasa mga kape.
Where should I start? Higher education, the justice system, our entire political system and capitalism turning into nothing but white collar crime. And those are only a few of the things that have degenerated since the subservience of the nation to the internet. Welcome to the resurrected Roman Empire!
My god, the snobbery here is so off-putting.

high paying jobs getting bested by overrated tiktok influencers in terms of income
At least those "high paying jobs" have more career security. Heck, those so-called "influencers" could die down and get broke overnight.
wait okay na pala omg HAHAHAHA i had to read more comments to understand. sorry na
wattpad stories and writers, or just wattpad in general. it used to be one of the popular topics in socmed back then. it could be just me though, maybe the algorithm just changed so much but that's what i think.
Yung pagiging latin honor huhuhu simula nung nagstart ang pandemic, parang lahat cum laude na :/
Grade inflation is real
Huh?
Bakit? Paki explain kung gusto mo hahaha. Ang strange ng take pero interesting
Cry about it. It’s actually a great thing that everybody is striving to achieve academic awards na these days. Maybe look at it positively. I’ll be more happy with that info knowing na yung mga students ay nagbibigay kasiyahan sa families nila. What a gatekeeper
I saw a post here na nasa HR and naginterview daw siya ng engineering graduate na applicants with honors. Ni hindi nga daw masagot yung basic questions niya about Mathematics like 1/2+1/4.
Research publication due to factors like the proliferation of predatory journals, the pressure to publish frequently, resulting in lower-quality studies, and the replication crisis, which has highlighted issues with the reliability of published research.
Law school or lawyers in general. I get that they are smart. However, we have so many of them and they have held so many governement positions and yet look at where we are: fucking nowhere. All talk no but no remarkable results for the past seven decades.
I think we need more people in STEM. As much as I hate ccp, china had engineers for leaders. I think having engineers as leaders will work for us since they value having a standardized system and long-term planning.
I agree. IMO for here in PH, lawyers should work more as a "supporting profession" rather than the ones taking the helm.
If all law schools closed today, we will still have a surplus of lawyers 10 years from now.
But according to Republic Act NO.7662, the ratio is 1 lawyer serving 2,500. Umuulan ba ng lawyers lately? If your basis is the tweet of prof Clarita Carlos around 2022 eh baka mali. Some will not practice law.

Travelling Abroad for vacation. 😁
I don't think that should have been prestigious nor a privilege
Nah fam. In this economy? It takes a loooot to merely afford a good local vacation, much more if abroad.
I guess it's the lurking crab mentality of other Filipinos who can't afford these that tainted this major accomplishment.
It's a good thing actually.
Interesting! Can you elaborate on why you think this is?
SM Prestige lol
Hehehe
Cars. Owning one used to be just for the priviledged. Now anyone can easily get one.
Getting one and fully affording the payments is a different matter entirely. But that's a lesson some people learn down the line. Same with condos.

Totoo yang sa Education/Honors. As a practicing teacher, I can definitely second that.
Ang her getting a 97 is quite telling of our current education system. I just record what reflects on my Excel sheet given by DepEd. 🤷♀️ Tapos di ba, qquestionin ka pa. 🤦♀️
America. Hahaha. I might get hate for this. Or not. NGL, we all grew up worshipping America or anything that remotely smells Murican.
We'd pick Hersheys or Swiss Miss over sikwate any day.
Pero ngayon? Meh. The "American Dream" has lost its glam for me. At least I don't go through the day worrying whether may school shooting bang magaganap while I work away from my kids.
It's not non-existent naman. It's just not at par sa US. There's philhealth and lingap. There's also baranggay health centers that give out free vaccines, prenatal checkups, and birth control. Mental health? Well, afaik, our LGU offers teleservices for that.
Yes, tama ka. We're behind in health infrastructure and technology kaya may mga treatments you can only get in the US or healthcare.
But personally, between that one and everything else (Our shitty government included), and the things happening in the US, I'm good in the PH.
Same with Canada. With the influx of Indians, it's becoming a third world country with 1st world issues
You mean the emergence of homeless white people? Gosh. Sorry but that's what you sound like. Stop acting like all the problems of a nation are caused by a single race. Canada has ongoing issues like any other country out there. Canada needed immigrants to keep its economy afloat, it better be prepared to deal with unintended consequences.
Have always thought Canada's a better option. Di na rin pala.
True!!!
Europe. Now that's prestigious. 🤌
Doubt it would. Mahal kumuha ng Schengen visa
second this. i’m from the states and i’m planning to move back
Yaaaaaas! Good choice.
and we had a school shooting last year too.. 😂
American dream isn't a dream anymore. Lalo na if you get to work with them and realize na its just another side of the world that you can live without.
Tapos ginagaya pa dito ang kanilang toxic hustle culture. lol. Eyebags aren't trophies
Exactly. Especially with the school shootings. Unsafe schools is not part of the “American Dream” at all. Sa part na yan, we’re doing way better over here.
I don't get their lax gun policies.
Yes this is true. Most of my relatives are in the US now. Before always telling u will earn a lot. Yes its true but the bills.
Hopefully this doesn’t get downvoted as this is a question that has been on my mind for the longest time. Halos lahat kasi sa batch ko nasa US na (PT course) and I’ve always wondered if based lang on your statement, isn’t earning a lot such a bad thing? And isn’t living in a 1st world leagues better than isang kahig isang tuka dito sa pinas?
Do not think I’m against your statement, I’m just currently trying to convince myself that it isn’t butterflies being in the US, I’m getting mixed signals what’s reality on the other side of the world, parang iba kasi ang pino portray ng mga kasama ko dun.
Imo Kung hirap ka umasenso sa pinas with your career (I.e. Medical staffs except doctors) then US is the better choice.
The cost of living there lalo pa't big cities. 🥴
Growing up, everything is prestigious to me. Jollibee, tv, aircon bus, bicycle. And then I got a job.
I don’t even know kung ano yung prestigious for adults nowadays.
Taking time off and not worrying about the next sahod. I think yan ang prestigious nowadays. Kung afford mo pumetiks. 😄
Having financial security without needing a salary
Meron naman. Quiet and slow mornings, and the opportunity to enjoy your coffee at a slow pace.
Yung prestige ng SMAC. Lol.
May nakapagsabi na ba nito: Reddit. Hahaha
Kids na English ang first language. There's nothing wrong naman, but it's not as classy as people think it is. and I feel sorry for these kids, lalo pa't kahit parents mismo di makapag communicate with them on a coversational level.
Lmao naaannoy talaga ako pag pinagEenglish yung bata. But, whatever choice nila yan.
(Hate to say I see this in my own pov)
Nagkaspeech delay pa ang ending kasi di makausap :(
I never understood this. I may very well be wrong, pero parang malaking handicap yun hindi sanay magtagalog once nasa labas na ng skwela, vs the gains of being "natural" english speakers. All good habang bata pa pero hindi forever yun protective bubble na yun.
My kid realized this early on as someone from the first batch of "English only" kids. The struggle to make friends is real. Thankfully mas naging fluent na siya in tagalog and bisaya so di na siya outlier sa mga playground and social settings outside of family.
Lumaki sa bahay ng nanay ko eh.Tapos nadisappoint nanay ko when all my kids are more fluent in bisaya and tagalog. Inexplain ko lang sa kanya na nasa Davao tayo, where most people speak Bisaya. How do you expect a kid to interact with a peer kung English at konting tagalog lang ang alam?
Instead of having kids who can only converse in english, i thinks it's much better if they are knowledgeable in many languages with deeper vocabulary para they can hold conversations.
MISS UNIVERSE
Smac hindi na kasi worth it eh haha pero in pain parin kami kasi burara kaming family wala na mga smacs namin

Kids these days can easily attend lots of k-pop concerts. Some even travel abroad and attend several concerts from the same tour and of the same artists.
That was unheard of during my time.

BGC.
I've been avoiding High Street already especially during Friday nights and weekends, 'coz over the years it has now become filled with jeje pickpockets and snatchers and squammy TikTokers arriving in droves for content 🤮🤮🤮 My issue is also the trash being left kung saan-saan along High Street and the seating areas for public or the grasses. The security guards roaming sometimes even have to be the ones to clean-up after the squammy groups have left.
Ngl and I will stand by this...there should be a new BGC with a TRULY exclusive gatepass or membership card (renewable annually), except if the person is working for the amenities there (must show company ID before entering the city).
Ayalas, if you are reading this...🙏🏻
Makakapasok ka ba pag exclusive na? Haha
That's for me to know and for you to lurk outside the exclusive city and find out
Lmao who you
exclusive pass ampota 😩
Lol BGC wouldn’t even survive without those “jejes” who probably work there. 🤷🏻♀️
imagine wanting to gatekeep bgc lol what a loser
Make it a No Tiktok Zone too.
Bat andaming nagdislike? I think its about the way you expressed it but I get your point and I like it.Yung pagka state lng prang elitista pakinggan. No squammy tiktokers talaga dapat sa BGC ksi nbabawasan yung "aura" nung place 🤣
oof.
The word “prestige.”
Latin Honors
yung iba nilalakad kesyo kaclose yung mga profs. No pride.
I think nagstart to noong pandemic kasi madali lang magkaroong ng high grades that time kasi syempre online class
I remember nung 3rd year kami and nag start na yung f2f class.
I think so too. Since wlaang ibang option kundi to go modular, naging output based yung basis ng grades na searchable naman yung answers. Cannot remember a time na halos araw araw may assignment during elem and hs
Tacky, noh?

Getting promoted.
Travel
Happy that other people are getting to experience it, not happy more often than not places are swarmed with tourists that didn’t bother to learn even just a LITTLE BIT about the culture and what is/is not acceptable to do in whatever country they are in.
If you have the resources to book and buy a plane ticket and accommodations - you have the resources to search no-no’s to avoid.
Ang elitista ng ibang comments
Some people derive value from rarity and exclusiveness, even if it is manufactured. Some people need to feel above other people for their sense of self-worth.
Explains a lot in our screwed up country.
SMAC, used to be a status symbol back then na you can afford to consistently shop at SM to actually take advantage of the SMAC rewards.
Something like that. And I was like, “hala ani yan? Di ko alam”. Tapos ayun pinaalis ako bushet hahaha
there's SMAC Prestige naman na now
I find it weird and stupid to see comments na travelling or more pinoys being able to go to Japan lost its luxury. I mean are you gatekeeping? Since when did Japan or any other country become some packaged luxury product or service? Nakapag aral ka ba dun? Can you speak their language?
If you just went there, visited this and that, took some pics and ate some food, you're like any other person in the local's view: a fucking tourist. It doesn't make you anymore special.
I'm actually happier that more pinoys get to do this para mainspire sila sa mga makikita nila sa ibang bansa and dalhin nila dito sa pinas ang mga natutunan nila. The previous generations failed at this. I'm hoping the newer generations are able to learn this time and are well-behaved when travelling abroad.
Right. They are gatekeeping because they cannot fathom the (lower) middle-class now affording trips to Japan. Dapat exclusive lang sakanila? Mas OK for us all na mas maraming Pinoy ang nakakapasyal abroad. (at umuuwi pagkatapos, hindi nag t-TNT)
being able to travel haha
It somehow became more ‘affordable’ . and ik people that earn close to min wage but are able to travel (nearby countries lang tho but still)
Well known luxury brands
dapat i-ban yung mga vloggers/influencers diyan e
Star Magic!
diplomas; *cough* diploma mills *ubo*

Academic honors
Adults always did they say that it's not about your grades in the end... I guess a lot more of the Reddit generation has gotten to that age where they understand this not-so-recent bit of wisdom.
Guinness book of world records..
Some experiences are meant to be experienced with exclusivity...that's what is being paid for (e.g. shopping in luxury stores should be a luxurious and exclusive experience, not cramped with noisy and unruly OFWs like it's the neighborhood karinderya or Puregold).
Otherwise, the term and branding of being "prestige" or "exclusive" would not have existed in the first place.
Also, "gatekeeping" brands and experiences makes people aspire for more and to really, really be better, and not just a "low-hanging fruit" of their labor.
You're being downvoted by people who don't know the meaning of prestige LOL
Ikr! Oh well, I definitely won't be losing sleep over those types of people haha
They better get a dictionary first or go to marketing classes to understand how prestige / exclusivity branding works 🤷🏻♀️
Your comment just proves that people with money are the “sheeps” in society. You like paying for things because it’s “exclusive”, not because it’s high-quality. I hope more Pinoys make more money, to annoy people like you who gatekeep experiences. If they can pay for it, then they deserve to experience it.
Who says exclusive and high-quality are ALWAYS mutually exclusive? LOL! 🫢
If di ka marunong pumili ng high quality items, wag mo kami idamay. 🤷🏻♀️
Sure, you tell yourself that. People like you are willing to pay obscene prices to create an illusion that you're better than everyone else, lol.
I would assume a question was asked, a question was answered. Unless people are complaining that more people can now travel.
1K pesos 🥲
PBA
I think it depends on the country, if may required na visa I think it’s still seen as luxurious, but yeah
Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Prada.
These 3 brands have always targeted the middle class
I don’t think middle class target nila especially if an item from there could cost up to 100k php, I think it’s mostly because of counterfeits kaya it doesn’t seem as luxurious. If anything probs longchamp because of one of their bag lines that is relatively cheaper.
100k is too cheap for the rich yet achievable for the middle class granted they skip out on good meals for a couple of months. Like an iPhone.
Research the psychology behind Gucci, LV, and Prada, and you’d see that these brands are not trying to market the rich, but they’re trying to make the middle class believe that they’re the status symbol of the rich. There’s a reason why Gucci and modern day LVs have big ass logos all over the place. There’s a reason why they’re nouveau riche’s top choices.
The brands that truly target the upper class are the ones you won’t recognize without seeing the tag or the ones you’ve prolly never heard of — Moynat, Joseph Duclos, The Row. Also think of Zuckerberg’s iconic Brunello Cuccinelli shirt and Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label.
Edit: lots of typo
Yes it is seen as tacky for some, but 100k is by no means “achievable” for a middle income individual, the top 1% of filipino earners earn that in a month, you can’t say that they’re targeting the middle class now can you?
I’m a business major in europe and we did multiple case studies on these na. Kaya I said na longchamp could be argued na pang middle class, but the rest could not, their price range and history prevent them from being so. If they really wanted to target the middle class they would risk their brand image and their customer base might not like them as much anymore.
And yes while there are less well known brands that some “rich” people tend to favor. Even in the Philippines some people would ask who your tailor is instead of what brand you’re wearing. There are still some “rich” filipinos” that want those well known brands.
First we must define upper and middle class. Is it monetary or humility/classiness that we’re measuring. Personally I’d were talking about target audience it would be a combination of these two; however, for simplicity’s sake I would only tackle the monetary side as it would be easier to quantify. If a single item in a shop is worth the monthly salary of the top 1% of the country’s earners I’d say they are targeting the upper class. Well known brands — Gucci, LV, and Prada — fall in to that category. The upper class is not a single market that wants all the same things, that’s why there are flashier brands like the ones mentioned above and more silent brands like the ones that you mentioned.
Tldr: if 1 item = top1% of earner’s monthly salary it doesn’t target middle income consumers. And the upper class is not a unitary market, there are submarkets that might want flashier items, and some that might want quieter ones.
Quite convenient to skip the “granted they skip out on meals” line. Haven’t you seen the news about the guy who barely eat for months just to get an iPhone? That sums up the PH middle income’s spending habits, that’s why middle income is a hard purgatory to escape as this is where lifestyle inflation creeps the hardest.
PH middle income bracket earns between P29,194 to P131,484 (floor of lower middle to ceiling of upper middle). How is a P100,000 purse unachievable? You might be getting confused between income brackets and wealth distribution. Just because the 6-figure earners only compose the 1% of the country doesn’t mean they’re upper class already. And this is just PH’s standards, what more on the global scale? US middle income earns between $52,000 and $155,000, surely a $3000 purse is an occasional guilty splurge.
Sometimes business folks don’t know their true market, and this is where marketing folks enter. Give pop stars and celebrities LV sponsorships and suddenly their fans who live in a small studio want it. Late Virgil Abloh’s rebranding of LV from boring leather goods to loud fashion accessories ain’t a coincidence as it’s intended for a market shift. Same goes for Gucci. FOMO culture is the strongest way to make the middle class spend on 6-figure purses when the product material ain’t even worth the tag. These brands don’t target the C suites, the old money, the bankers — they target the newly-promoted analyst and the sons and daughters of the mid-managers who have supplementary Platinum credit cards.
I stand by my statement and this is backed by first hand perspective from within. They don’t target the rich, they target the middle income folks who want to feel rich.
Ok if you really think that someone that earns 100k per month is considered middle class or someone that earn 100k+ usd annually, 8000+ usd or 400k+ php monthly, is also middle class then your perception of the class divide is extremely flawed and I can’t fix that here. If you also think that someone skipping meals that would cost at most 1000 php or 20 usd could lead to them having enough extra money to buy those items then so be it; if they’re spending more that 20usd even in a first world country they’d be considered rich or upper class ksi a pizza could cost around 11 euros, and burgers around 8, you could get a rice bowl or ramen in madrid for around 15-18 euros, even a serving of conchinillo would only go a bit over 20 euros, pero you need to make a reservation pa.
But a 2000 usd or 100k php bag is unachievable because of the expenses that these people have upper middle class people would have relatively larger homes thus bigger bills, their commute to work, and not to mention if they have kids they might want to send them to a good school that would cost a lot of money. They have a lot of expenses ren. As a business major and according to what my professors, that worked as executives in multinationals, told us these are still considered luxury brands that target the upper class consumers.
Anyways this’ll be my last reply as I don’t really want to explain micro-economics’ income based classes here, plus summer here rn and I’m dying kasi walang ac most appartments in europe.
Edit: I have a few friends ren that have those brands, and I’d say their rich, nasa ayala alabang bahay nila eh. And personally I only own 2 well known branded items 1 Burberry watch, and 1 pair of timberlands. The rest would be from those less known brands — Aigle, Pedro del Hiero, Daniel Hechter, etc. — they are all around the same price range probably a bit more expensive but nonetheless. If the parents can afford to buy those for their kids I doubt they’d skip a meal or two para lang to get an extremely expensive item that the kid would barely use or even grow out of. They buy those items because they’re investment pieces, especially watches and shoes, some might even last you a couple generations like one leather jacket that was owned by my lolo pa.
In my opinion, it's definitely better that a lot more people can travel abroad nowadays compared to before.
Better for our passport! As long as all the tourists come home and do not end up as illegal aliens, OK tayo dapat jan.
With honors
Lahat naman kasi "with honors", "with highest honors". Wala na 1st to 3rd honor.

being an engineer here sa ph, sobrang underpaid 🤡
Huy totoo to! Sobrang underpaid tapos ang demanding pa ng work. Kaya shift to another career nalang or work abroad
Using this logic, drug dealers and pushers hold a higher prestige compared to licensed professionals.
Being underpaid does not diminish the prestige of a profession. Business owners who underpay its employees should be the one to lose its prestige. .
Being a licensed professional teacher (LPT).
May I know why po??
The teaching profession in our country is oversaturated where a chuck of the new generation LPTs don't practice their teaching license at all, but instead they are in the BPO industry or have already left the country for good.
Tsk tsk tsk.
This is so true, being a teacher is more of a volunteer work at this point
Thank you for your insight. I think malaking factor dito yung hirap magka-item sa DepEd kaya no choice, they chose different paths nalang. And in reality, mas maganda talaga mag work as teacher sa ibang bansa (based sa mga co-teachers ko).

Totoo. Like, seriously? Mas mataas pa mga kita nila kaysa saga Doctor, Lawyers, Engineers?
Looks like any two-bit moron with a fuzzy camera phone, sub-zero IQ, and an internet connection can be an "influencer" now. Nakaka-depress na you're working your ass off for pocket change while these "influencers" are earning lots of moolah.
With minimal effort pa. Unboxing.. sayaw sayaw. Hay
And most of them are not a great "influence" for the youth.
Quite sad kasi these people are the ones that are the cornerstone of society, and are very much undervalued.
I don't want to undermine their efforts din, but most influencers are pretty useless and only serve to corrupt the minds of their followers.
Ilan lang talaga sa kanila ang ginagamit ang kanilang privilege, platform, and power as forces to do good.
