My landlord returned (some) of my deposit from my 3-year rental in October of 2023, within the 21 days of the return period. He kinda nickel and dimed and charged $1100 to replace the carpet in one of the bedrooms under "unusual wear and tear" (which tbh looked pretty usual to me at move out, and I'm pretty sure this company gives bogus invoices for a kickback).

He just emailed me today and said that he caught an error in the form and listed the deposit as too high and wants me to Zelle him $500 back. He's legit a lawyer, so I would assume he knows the rights. But this seems kinda crazy?
