I have 3 nerites 2 in a 65 gal that have maybe grown a bit but stayed relatively small very close to the size they were when i got them about 3 months later I got a third nerite smaller then the first 2 currently living in a 25 gal and it’s grown 5 times the size of the other 2 in only a few months. so i’m just wondering how big to they normally get cause i think i have a giant nerite.
I have a black one that's really big, like 3 inches across, similar in size to my mystery snails. The striped one and the spotted ones are much smaller, maybe an inch or so. Not sure if they're fully grown though. Only had them like 6 months. I also have a horned nerite that's like a half inch, presumably a baby.
Hi is your largest neritid a marine neritid? Please attach a pic in reply if you can.
It's a black racer nerite
Neritina pulligera All wild caught, mostly from Philippines/Indonesia. Aka “Black Racer Nerite, Dusky Nerite, Military Helmet Nerite”. Would need morning or on spotted/striped ones to tell you. The other is a Clithon sp.
3 inches is insane for N. Pulligera so if you have pics please post him! I’ve seen them get around two and I have heard people say theirs are bigger but I’ve never seen one. They’re just about the largest of the 300 species. That little Clithon sp is unlikely to get much bigger, they’re about the smallest genus in the family on average.
Yeah I might have been exaggerating with the 3 inch thing but it was definitely 2 or 2.5, unfortunately I can't find it in the tank atm. It's heavily planted, so it might be alive just mia. I found a few blurry pics that don't really show the scale of it.
Edit- I tracked it down and measured it. It's like, exactly an inch long. lmao whoops. Why did I think you were so big little snail??
There’s a calculation you can do to determine size by volume! Looking at things through a tank can be tricky.
Volume = 1/3🥧* (Shell width/2)2 * Shell height
