Google is automatically enrolling accounts in their "Find My" network unless you avail yourself of the time-limited opt-out:

You’ll get a notification on your Android devices when this feature is turned on in 3 days. Until then, you can opt out of the network through Find My Device on the web. Your choice will apply to all Android devices linked to [google account redacted].

The opt-out link goes to the Find My Device page on web at https://www.google.com/android/find/settings/fmdn , but if you click "no thanks" to the modal pop-up asking to enable "Find My Device", it dumps you on an irrelevant support page. There are several highly-upvoted questions on the support forum about this, such as:

https://support.google.com/android/thread/273700650/web-link-to-opt-out-of-find-my-device-not-working

I can say that clicking "accept" on the web Find My Device page is the wrong move; it seems to have irrevocably enabled the spyware.

Anyone have any suggestions here? I'm sick of this sort of paternalism.
