South African food hits differently.
Foodie AdventuresNothing like a braai. Read a post somewhere of a vegan complaining that when he goes out for a run, non-vegans should close their windows when they’re cooking meat because he finds it offensive. Bro should come to SA where every Saturday and Sunday (and some days in between) you smell the braais going in the neighbourhood.
I too am offended when someone is having a braai without me.
nou gaan ons braai
I won't lie. You get that braai smell it hits the hunger zone.
I drive through khayelitsha in the evenings. At that time they set up the Tshishi Nyama you get that smell of braai vleis and sausage. It makes you lus for a lekker plate of braai food.
Sausage? They braaiing Escort viennas over there? It’s called WORS my brother
More frequently thanks to load shedding. I often smell the charcoal in the evenings if the power is out
The smell of the meat is so good it makes him want to rethink his choices 🤣
You mos know
I'm surprised that no one has commented "That's not South African food"
Lol, came here looking for that comment
I always see it on Twitter whenever someone shares "South African" food lol
They're always hating on us, lol.
Roasted corn that all of us eat o. It's gotten to Southy and they are trying to "colonise" it
Does your plate look like that though? Do you have chakalaka as well? We can remove the corn and add pap which is a staple food in most of Southern Africa.
Pap is a staple in West Africa. Chakalaka is beans with veggies, onions, pepper and tomatoes. Take the veggies out and that's a West African staple
Chakalaka is a South African term, what do you call it? Chakalaka is purely a South African recipe in my opinion.
Edit: I thought people in West Africa eat Fufu which isn't the same as pap but I just learned something today.
The recipe may be South African but the combo isn't. I will try to get the name for the beans meal. As for pap, it's called "ogi" by the Yorubas in Nigeria. Made from corn. Fufu is from Cassava and I believe is not as widespread as Garri
I'm not trying to be petty or anything but I just checked the recipe for West African pap or "ogi" and it looks entirely different from what we eat here in the South.
Here is the process to making Ogi and here is the process to making Southern African pap. To avoid being biased I looked at another video on how to make Ogi and it still looks entirely different.
Check the end products and let me know if you think it's the same thing.
Lol! That's Semo or Poundo for us. You use maize flour (starch) for that. We use Yam flour (for Poundo) or wheat flour (Semo). Maize flour we use to make Ogi which we call Pap in English
Lekker
I'm suddenly craving chakalaka and braai meat lol.
EAT 10 VORSE SAUSAGES AND YOU WILL BE SATISFIED
This combo with pap and chakalaka is a solid 10/10
Southern African food.. that's nothing special when we all eat it .. shoutout from zambia
It's Ramadan, bruh 💀
YOUR religious choices do not affect others
Mouth was watering ne 😂
And?
lekker braai meat
Yes cause barbecue is now South African food, wings is South African food.
Call it a “barbecue” in South Africa and get ready to run for your life…. It’s a “braai”.
I just did. It's just facts sorry
Sorry, but comparing a “barbecue” to a braai is like comparing a McDonalds chicken nugget to a NY steak with all the frills. It’s an absolute Nono! 🤬
You’re just lucky this is online and nobody can get their hands on you… 😂
Getting your hands on me? Lol hope you like getting shot.
Careful. A regular diet of real braai makes you immune to mere bullets… 🙃
(unlike barbecues, that just make you fat)
It's braai broskie, not what you call it, ayingajwayelani
Dude brai isn't a food. It's just a barbecue party.
Are you American ?
This is braai, much better than barbecue
Literally the same thing. Just different names.
Barbecue is generally charcoal or gas whereas braai is hardwood open coals
Isn't chakalaka South African?
That's coleslaw
There's nothing special on this plate. SA 'cuisine' is not very interesting
This is not our officials cuisine. We have many tribes and it differs.
You're missing the most important part, the braai broodjies
