What ‘90s movie got panned by the critics…but you still loved?
DiscussionAdulthood is knowing that Brendan, Adam and Steve were the bad guys.
The Lone Rangers
How can you pluralize the Lone Ranger?
Have never showed this to one person who didn't love it. Have no idea why it's not more of a classic
Robin Hood: Prince of Theives
Saw this three times in the theater I loved it so much.
Every year since the line, "why a spoon, cousin?" goes through my head.
I find myself to be a bit of film buff so I’m not sure if it was my age when it came out but I love that movie. I also like Armageddon so….
Armageddon is a seriously flawed movie but man it's such a great one too.
There’s so many ridiculous parts and plot holes in it but damn it’s so entertaining. And gives me major nostalgia
Ahh this movie is so good. Also has a great theme song.
I’ve loved this movie since I saw it in theaters when it first came out.
Jawbreaker
Watched this a couple of nights ago for the first time in like 15 years. Love Rose McGowan and Judy Greer
I just watched that today. It's still good!
Office Space
This is a cult classic that all of my software devs loved since day one. We still hit each other with quotes from that movie.
One if the best movies of the 90s.
I was working for Experian when this movie came out. Hated it, soul sucking misery. I watched Office Space while I was on acid and immediately quit my job the next day. I was especially upset about Milton being moved to the basement. The fact that the opening scene was filmed just down the road from where I lived at the time only solidified for me that this shit was too real and I had to do something about it. Lolll. But for real, fuck Experian.
I remember not realizing I was burnt out, watching this movie with a bunch of whiskey and weed and immediately sent out a bunch of applications and got a new job that I forgot I applied to in like a month. Best accident I ever made.
I used to pass the old IRS building everyday on my way to work in Austin, the building where the office scenes were filmed. Love that movie
We're gonna need you to come in on sunday... we lost some people and need to catch up, mmmmkay
The Bobs
This movie gets better every time I watch it
For the love… please fill out your TPS reports, people!!
TOYS, Tank Girl, Drop Dead Fred
Man I totally crushed on Lori Petty hard in the 90’s…
Me too. I loved that movie.
I totally crushed hard on Rik Mayall. RIP.
Here to say Tank Girl
Soooo good!! Wished it has been a series.
I was thinking about Tank Girl the other day, while out on a run: I would have loved to see Tank Girl as a season or two mini series
Tommy Boy
Can’t Hardly Wait
Oh man I love this movie! One of the few movies I can rewatch over and over again.
Take me down to the Paradise City.
I DON’T HAVE ANY LEGS!!!! <rocks out>
I can’t feel my legs!!
This movie is so packed with people that would later become famous.
“Why you gotta be wastin’ my flavah?!” - a weekly quote for me.
The beer has gone bad!
Classic!
So rewatchable!
Fun fact - the Blu-ray of the 20 year Edition is like $60-$90 right now.
Last Action Hero
Soundtrack kills
Had the soundtrack. The score itself was good too with those riffs
It’s got my favorite Alice In Chains riff of all time on what the hell have I
“SLLAAAAATTEEEER!!”
90s just didn’t get meta humor
Watched that movie over and over again when I was a kid.
Glad it’s finally getting the respect it deserves.
That movie was ahead of its time.
Honestly! Love thos movie the soundtrack. I buy every version of it that comes out. Still need to get it on laser disc.
People just didn't appreciate it at the time, and the kid was kind of annoying, Benedict was one of my favorite bad guys!
"I just shot a man in cold blood and I want to confess!"
Billy Madison!
Hook!
Rufio, rufio!
RU! FI! OOOHHHHHHH!
“Oh that is so dangerous”
You lewd, crude, rude, bag of pre-chewed food, dude!
You man! You stupid man!!!
BANGARANG!
I love that the posts have Toys and Hook next to each other.
The Cable Guy
Stay Tuned
I love Stay Tuned. I never realized it was panned by critics.
Newsies
So crazy Disney made one of the best pro worker movies ever.
A Night at the Roxbury, Office Space, and Super Mario Bros. Especially, Super Mario Bros which is the most interesting and creative take I've ever seen in a game adaptation.
Omg A Night At The Roxbury... I can't tell you how many times I quote this movie day to day!
Demolition Man
Empire Records
Every day is Rex Manning Day!
The Net is awesome and perfect for anyone who remembers that short time where the internet wasn’t ready yet but there was all this imagination for what it could do in the future.
The Net! With the girl from the bus!
Such a provocative film!
Sandra Bullock. :)
Not sure if these even got mentioned by critics but I feel like they're underrated
Judgment Night
The People Under the Stairs
Judgment Night! I've been looking for this movie for forever! I don't ever see it streaming anywhere.
I actually found the DVD in a bin for 5 bucks.
Looks like it's on youtube for free right now
Hell yeah! You're a legend.. I run a Cyberpunk table top rpg and I've always wanted to run an adventure based on this flick!
That would be really fun! Do it bro!
Has a killer soundtrack too
Absolutely. They matched up odd pairings like Cyprus Hill and Pearl Jam. Or Ice T and Slayer. Loved the movie and the soundtrack.
Watched it on Tubi just the other night, should still be on there.
People Under the Stairs was fucking terrifying
So scary, especially as a kid since it's something that could really be happening.
People Under the Stairs was awesome. Never met anyone who saw that besides my brother and I. We watched it so many times. Same with Judgement Night. Even had the soundtrack
Waterworld is a decent movie.
Critics weren't wrong, but the movie is fun as hell.
Decent and entertaining as hell.
Same with The Postman.
Expensive too.
Drop dead gorgeous. I used to be the only reason that tape was checked out at family video. So glad I have it on dvd
Peter's gay... GAY!
I’ve made my friend watch this movie like 4 times and that’s one of our to quotes, the other is “she’s skinny Amber, not deaf”
A buddy of mine of 25 years and I still do the “I can be any kind of tree you want! Just give me a second to warm up! HHUUIUEEEEEHHHH!” Also, saying “Oh God, Oh Crap!” in a deep midwestern accent is what solidified my coworker as my work bestie.
This movie is Holy Grail to my group of friends. I asked them to be in my wedding party with stickers I found on Etsy.. Jesus Loves Winners! And Most Smartest. SO glad I own a physical copy.. it's so fickle with availability. This is NAZI GERMANY.
"Can I? Amer-I can!"
I love this Movie, it's been way to long.
Cruel Intentions
Hook
Street Fighter
Encino man
Happy Gilmore

Dead Man on Campus
Dumb and Dumber
Ace Ventura Pet Detective
My Blue Heaven
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Watching “That Thing You Do!” right now!
The postman
Last Action Hero!
We frequented a mall with one of those Second Run $1.50 movie theaters. I must’ve seen this one there 10 times
Showgirls
On the Ver Hoeven angle, Starship troopers as well
Also a fantastic movie. Diz was/is hotter!!!
“It’s kind of like all the nipples in Showgirls. After a while you just stop noticing them and just get caught up in the narrative.”
Super Mario Bros. Still love it to this day!
This and tmnt 3.
30-ish years later and this is the first time I’ve ever seen a positive comment about TMNT 3.
Haha I was born in 90 so I was only 3 years old when the movie came out. My mom was hella into TMNT (and all Saturday cartoons) so I was pretty much born a fan. I had probably watched all the movies 10x before I could even understand them... by the time I was able to understand them it was just another movie I liked.
I get it for kids who were older and went in with anticipation for it to be a good follow up for 1 and 2. I had no concept of let down since I watched them all interchangeably. It wasn't my favorite of the 3 but I did enjoy it.
The Shadow.
I'd never heard of the character, but my parents had grown up with the radio show and took me to the movie. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Years later someone namedropped it in a bad movies discussion and that's when I learned about its reputation. Still no idea why. Movie is cool as hell.
My dad saw it theaters and I remember him telling me that he had to had been one of the youngest people in the theater the day he went. And he was in mid 30s at the time. I saw the movie on HBO sometime later and I still love it.
Event Horizon
Scared the shit out of me!
Mallrats
PCU
Can you blow me where the pampers is?
Mortal Kombat.
It was only critically panned by Billy in 4C, but I’ll have to say “Dumb and Dumber.”
The blind kid?!
Captain Ron.
Dirty Work (1998)
That movie is brilliant!
"Hey, maybe you'll feel better after some dirty sex!"
North (1994) and Batman Forever (1995).
I hated Batman Forever..... forever. Watched it again some years ago and I gotta say, now I get it. Is it an all around well executed movie... not really, but I really now get the director's intent behind the mindset and psychology of Bruce Wayne. In that respect, it was very well done.
Tommy Lee Jones absolutely hated working with jim Carey
Correct. 90s Jim was full blast..... oof. Talented but he couldn't turn off the "Carey-isms". I can only imagine working with a fellow like that.
Mallrats
Wild Wild West
Dragonheart
Jawbreaker.
The 13th Warrior
Go!!
Little rascals
Warriors of virtue
Showgirls
Tank girl

Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore
PCU
PCU
The Rock. Nic Cage and Sean Connery. Love it.
Johnny Mnemonic
Hackers is my go to nostalgia movie. I understand why it was panned by critics but it is the epitome of a "so bad it's good" movie. The characters were so cool that I tried to be a little hacker myself so I downloaded scripts to spam AOL chat rooms. I thought I was the shit. Hack the planet!
A poor critic review for me is often a key indicator that a film is going to be good.
The amount of Oscar winning yawn fests I have endured is phenomenal.
How the Goonies doesn’t have a 100% score in every review is one of life’s mysteries.
Most of them probably. I never understood why people look to critics for anything. What does someone else’s opinion of a subjective thing have to do with me?
It helps decide how much you might want to see something when someone with similar tastes to yours can articulate the good & bad about it.
The Cable Guy. For nostalgic reasons and because I genuinely enjoy it.
Most of them
Center Stage!!
Bio Dome
Judge Dredd... "I am the LAW!"
Hudson Hawk
Lost In Space
Coneheads!
Clerks, I used to work at a neighborhood video club almost next door to a blockbuster (which I latter applied and worked at). For us, it was like our Office Space.
A Night at the Roxbury, one of my favorite comedies that hits the nostalgia button hard.
Don’t care how stupid it is, it still makes me laugh to this day
Snake Eyes
Ernest Goes to Jail
Spice World
Wild Wild West
Last Action Hero
Waterworld
Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead.
Last action hero, Mystery men, Baseketball, Orgasmo, Mario brothers, Anything Troma, I know it's from the 80's but Howard the Duck.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.
