We're celebrating 1814 >:(
Had soft ice and hot dogs been invented back then?
Actually yes, by us.
Least arrogant norwegian
Ah, yes, 1814 was when the Danes surrendered Glรผckstadt to glorious Sweden and the shaft of the Danish appendicitis, Holstein, fell in Swedish hands
It's difficult to call the country that contains Malmรถ "glorious"
Well we are containing it arenโt we? Imagine it came crawling over to you guys
Common Swedish L. They celebrate what happened in 1814, not 1905. You know when the Norwegians, on the encouragement of the Danish crown prince, wrote their own constitution, to avoid Norway falling under a personal union with Sweden. It didn't work, but it did give Norway a surprisingly solid constitution considering how much of a rush job it was.
Our rush jobs is what the rest of the world would called perfectly planned and precise operation.
It was an intense constitutional convention, and the northerners didn't even get representation, as they used too much time to get down south.
In the end we fell under Sweden a bit quicker than needed, because the prince-regent turned king decided to surrender instead of letting a battle go ahead. The whole campaign had lead up to that battle, but the king, having seen men lay down their lives for him in previous battles decided to surrender. (after the death of an officer, he said: "too much blood for my sake!". The response from an officer next to him, who was there to report that they were ready to advance was: "rather too little, your majesty")
Having family in northern Norway I feel that not much was lost on that account.
If it's a Swedish L, well It's even bigger L for Denmark, it was swaped for Saxe-Lauenburg that was lost a few decades later . But who cares, Norway is Norway and I'm glad they did the cut. I would feel strange to say that I'm from Sweden-Norway if asked.
Whatever it is, it's always a Norway W.
Well, you can call it W, but it took until the 20th century to get totally free, I call it a huge L.
Who cares about the past? People who used to be great that is who, we live in the present where we are the best and have all the money, no need to escape into the past for us!
But you are not. You find something you didn't create, let other do the work for you. So a huge L.
It hurts me to see that you don't seem to know your own history. It is not some number on a screen, it is this https://youtu.be/FOwWCsP3zh8?t=150
Oh thats not history, thats a live count of our money.
Tomorrow that number could be zero, but a Norwegian commentator orgasming while chanting "we are best in the world" and taunting Thatcher after beating a very mediocre English team in a world cup qualifier, that my level ground challenged friend, is forever!
You know what they say about money? Toilet paper.
You can count on a Sweden to fight with a dane on norway's constitutional day. Get lost Sven.
And choosed a Danish Prince as their new king.
Common nordic win.
Actually we're celebrating Norway being given as a gift to Sweden from Denmark
Bruh they got it handed from the british after the british destroyed our fleet and bombed the shit out of pur capital, no gifts here
how norwegian was even this union
Thanks Denmark! ๐ฅฐ
Its the signing of the constitution we celebrate, not independence itself.
Also 1905 was essentially sweden giving in after Norway screamed "I want this candy bar, mom" for 50 years
Sweden had a choice between war or peace in 1905, and let Norway go. The Consul affair, and the Swedish political response to it (shoutout to Bostrรถm), was beyond atrocious and had incensed the entire Norwegian population into an irreversible frenzy.
Given the Swedish experiences with invasions of Norway (1716 and 1718), and the unilateral support for independence in the Norwegian population, Sweden saw the writing on the wall and did the only sensible thing.
This is tru, but the Norwegian government had spent the last couple decades finding ways to bypass sweden in trade and international affairs
Flair up, you coward. only pussies hides from where they're from.
