My daughter kept asking for a cat. The answer was ‘absolutely not’. I didn’t expect to have one adopt us. Her name is Luna.
Look at that mischievous little face.
Hahaha it’s too cute 🥺
Welcome to the world of cat ownership. To be clear, the cat owns you. But the cuteness softens the blow!
Sounds like the r/catdistributionsystem is still hard at work
I love her big ol' forehead! I wanna smooch it.
Kittens have a way of doing that. My daughter's cat of 24 years, passed recently. She wasn't sure if she was ready yet for another cat. And low and behold ...... A kitten was outside last week in the cold. Now it's inside ❣️
She knows what she’s about.
I'm guessing you accidentally triggered the r/CatDistributionSystem at some point.
The cats very much like , 'look, I dunno how I got here either so how about we just make it work?'
Ah like two college kids who had a baby after a one night stand.
The password is absolutely not
’I'm guessing you accidentally triggered the r/CatDistributionSystem…’
‘We need a distribution!’ ~
there’s a voice we kittens hear
a kind of ‘resolution’
when we magically appear
a wishing child’s hopeful heart,
a parent who says ’NO!’
we know they need a brand new start,
so that’s where we will go ;}
n when we find the human there,
no matter mom or dad
the small one makes them well aware
we cats are not so bad…
n soon we hold them in our paws,
a love they never felt!
we know that we are Home, because
We made their sad heart
melt
❤️
deep breath through the nose
Ahhh, fresh Schnoodle!
The freshest Schnoodle!
Oh Schnoodle, you never fail to make me cry
🥹🥰 Now I'm melting over here.
Oh my. Two schnoodles in two days! Jackpot!
Oh, Schnoodle, that’s it exactly!
I love the cat distribution system, but actually it looks like OP got her from a pet store based on their comment about originally just going to get fish food, and also the fact that the lil kitten looks like a chocolate british short hair
No, that's just the store infiltration branch of the CDS.
It’s very effective. Nothing like a casual box full of kittens in an aisle when you took your kid to the country store to look at baby chicks.
I was wondering, perhaps, if her daughter was a witch and conjured the cat out of thin air .... above her little cauldron in the back ...
Yes Pet store. 100% not the intention we went in there for.
My sister and I went with my dad to Petsmart for lizard crickets. We saw a cat and begged and cried for my dad to let us get her. He said no, and told my mom about it. Did the ol' "we'll let mom go meet her and she'll decide." He wanted her to be the one to say no haha, but also didn't want to rule it out because he loves cats.. My mom fell in love too. She passed away last year at 18 years old. I loved that stinker.
They just do not understand how it is activated.
I saw this comment and had no idea what the “catdistribitionsystem” was as I am very unfamiliar with Reddit. But now it makes sense! Lmao Yes holy shit I did. Thank you for this comment 🤣
r/suddenlyskyrim lmao
My family lost our dog earlier this year and my parents were adamant about never getting another pet. This little one showed up on their back patio a few months ago and the rest is history. Hoomanz plan, kittehs laugh
I guess it’s true. Cats really do adopt YOU.
When I went to pick out one of my cats from the litter of all black kittens I was drawn to the one fluffy long haired one. But he wasn’t particularly interested in people or other cats and ran off to play by himself. Then one of the little short haired ones, one that wasn’t playing with any of his siblings, came up to me and sat looking at me with a proper blep. I picked him up for a cuddle and he gazed into my eyes and I knew right there I’d found my kitten.
Max definitely picked me and I’m so glad he did. He adores me and is so chatty and incredibly playful and gentle.
That is such a great picture.
Last time I went to go adopt a cat, the first one I picked up climbed up on my shoulders and perched himself there. The quickest adoption ever.
How’d your new kitten show up, OP?
I like to think your dog sent the kitten your way.
“Go on little one, these are good people.”
I absolutely think the same! He was the best boy and we were so lucky to have him for as long as we did
♥️😭♥️
These stories make me feel so good. It's precious and meant to be. What a beautiful cat too.
So sleek!!
Black kittens can get “lost” in the most unexpected places. They are impossible to see in the corners of closets, cupboards, drawers, etc. Congrats on your new baby!!!
lol I’ll look out for that!
And washing machines! Always check your washing machine before loading, it‘s quite easy to overlook a little dark kitten sleeping in there.
AND DRYER!!
My 12.5lb dumbass loves to sleep in the dryer.
There's not even clothes in it. How is a concave steel surface even comfortable?
They're cats. Expecting them to act logically is your failing, not theirs.
It's because it's a small and secluded space which makes it safe from predators :D Same reason why they seem to be obsessed with boxes
And dishwasher
My friend was visiting and my big chonker of a tuxedo cat loved to climb in with the wet clothes. It took fifteen minutes for my friend to realize that what he heard was not an unbalanced load.
Kitty survived but ended up with bad burns and liver damage. He eventually made a full recovery, but it was very close. So always always check your dryer!
Yes! I don't even have a black cat but mine jumped in when it was open and we were searching for clothes. She's fine, and it's now funny and we have a top loader now instead of front loader.
Be careful with closing closet or pantry or any doors. They tend to sneak by, especially in the dark lol. Also if you can’t find your void, most likely hiding under blankets or some dark corner. Don’t panic. Just shake the treat bag. Congrats on your void
Weirdly it's harder to see my gray cat in the dark than my black cat. The gray one blends with the flooring but the black one is a void so if u see a dark shadow i l ow it's the black cat but I can't see the gray one in the dark at all!
Oh, and don't think she'll always get "lost" in those weird places. The first time I really "lost" my black kitten, she was sitting in the middle of the bedroom, in plain sight. But she was on a black chair in the shadows and basically invisible. She was having a great time watching us digging around uh boxes and under furniture for her!
Can confirm. Half of the times when I lose my void he's just staring at me from the black carpet while I search the whole house. He also tends to teleport around.
Be extra aware of going down the stairs at night in the dark.
Our hearth is black. I’ve spent fifteen minutes looking for my void girl while she just casually watched me search all her favorite napping spots.
my sister constantly talks to garbage bags and piles of clothes in dim lighting because she mistakes them for her black cat. excellent camouflage skills
I have spent many a day thinking a throw pillow or shadow was my cat.
Esp at night in the dark lol, they just blend in to the shadows and dark spots
My ex had a black kitten and he had arranged to go out with friends while he had lost him in the house. He called me to go in and look for him, and all I had to do was putting mama kitten sounds on YouTube. He meowed too and came out fast, he was hiding in a sofa/bed 😭
SHE IS ANGELIC
She's beautiful! If you can afford it (more food, litter, vet care) you should really think about getting a 2nd kitten. Two kittens is easier than one. And you will never be so entertained as you are when watching 2 kittens play.
Ohh nooo How did this happen!? 😩 We were just supposed to be getting fish food for my mom!
Having raised a solo kitten, a kitten with an older cat, and two sibling kittens together - raising these two kittens at once has been awesome. They get their high-intensity play out with each other and I don't have to chase them around, they're super gentle because they teach each other what's too rough, they'll always be there to keep each other company, and they're a lot less likely to be enemies with other cats if they're introduced really young!
If you can afford more kitten, get more kitten. 10/10 experience.
😂🙌🏽
Totally second this, they do much better in pairs, and two is almost the same as having one!
Also agree, a pair is perfect.
Totally agree!! It's so worth it.
Kittens this age learn a lot from playing with each other and really do better with companionship. Really need a 2nd similarly aged kitten. They will both be better off for it.
Could she be any more perfect?!
I know!!!!!!
She is gorgeous. Also Brown cat are rare i think.
Thank you! I couldn't even pretend I was going to say no lol. It's so interesting to think that being super cute is part of their evolution to guarantee survival.
My friend once said, "You know how they think cuteness is an evolutionary thing to make humans want to take care of you? Why do kittens need that more than other animals?"
Because kittens are monsters. Adorable monsters, but monsters. They cause chaos, wreak havoc everywhere they go, and then they will climb up to you, will do a tiny little squeak and you will forgive them everything.
they are the best monsters... given they are well socialized and not suffering from some sort of malady, I find they put just the right amount of chaos and companionship into my otherwise introverted life.
Their sounds have got to be calculated to create the most sympathetic response. Mine, when begging for her wet food, pitches her yells in a way that sounds like a crying baby. It's both cute and exasperating. lol
My senior lady used to have a pathetic meow. After I had a baby, she now sounds even more like a crying baby.
I think it is calculated; apparently naturally cats don’t really meow, but ours do because they’re copying the noises we make. So they’re masters of manipulation.
Cats only meow to kittens normally iirc. But since cats meow to us, we're like... Giant hairless kittens to them?
I read that cats quite literally think we’re just giant cats that are really bad at cat things. That’s why they bring us the mouses they catch and stuff!
Nah, they know we aren’t cats. I have a cat that’s so stupid she took nine months to learn her name and swatted cat #2 when cat #3 sniffed her butt. She actually doesn’t like the other cats, but she likes us humans. If she can tell we’re not the same as another cat, any cat can. That doesn’t mean she thinks we’re competent at basic living (she’ll groom my son’s hair until it’s actually wet), but she knows we’re not cats.
Yeah, take a look at newborn human babies. They got the short end of that stick, for sure!
That's absolutely true.
If humans genetically engineered kittens to stay kittens forever. Bro, everyone with a cat would have maybe five 😂. It’s stupid how cute they are
When I brought a boyfriends two cats into the vets at the same appt with my two cats the vets all called us a “four pack” and said owning 4 cats is very common! Any other vets wanna weigh in? We had ours split between two households with no intention to ever move in together it’s too nice having two different places and plenty of personal space!
I don't think that's true.
Evidence: wild cat species already have adorable babies.
In this case, it's a failsafe survival tactic. If there's not enough food around, they'll just lure someone like me in. I've come to terms with the fact that I'll likely die trying to pet something I shouldn't.
I mean, other species than humans find cat babies adorably cute. So it can work in the wild, too.
Cats are sort of predesignates to be irresistible to humans. Their faces look enough like ours, but they are way cuter IMO <3
I'll wager she'll grow into more of a black fur with age. All my black cats in sunlight appear brown, they're also extremely soft
In think so too. I’m more than ok with it.
All mine had brown/red highlights in the summer, and turned more black in the winter.
Other than rare breeds like Havanas, there aren’t really solid brown cats. However, black cats that sun themselves a lot can fade to brown.
Grumpy!
It's possible for a random bred cat to end up with a brown coat. That genetic mutation happened naturally and those cats were selectively bred to form the breed. No reason that they couldn't have cousins out there with those same genes. It's just incredibly unlikely. But with the millions and millions of cats in the world, even a very very small chance would mean many cats like that exist.
But I agree, this is just a black kitten in the sun.
Brown cats are very rare. This is just a black kitten in the sun, though. They get that cherry cola color! So cool.
That’s definitely a black cat lol
😑 Ugh. That’s the way cats do it.
I didn’t want one at all. Then darling daughter adopted a flea bag off of Craigslist (it literally had fleas).
Then next thing I know she’s curling up next to me and growing in my heart like a little fungus.
Ooooh nooo hahaha that sounds like a happy ending tho.
Yep! I call my cats tumors because they grew on me even though I didn't want them to lol (I have 5 now...)
Cat Distribution System at work. It knows and delivers. No questions asked.
My black female stray is also called Luna. She is lying next to me now.
You should raise her to always tell the truth.
Luna is the single most common pet name I've ever heard in my life. In 35yrs I've met 5 of them and know of 2 others.
I've even been at a party where two dogs named Luna were both out of control and both owners are standing there like chumps calling them "Luna! Luna!" Yea, that's gonna do it.
Roughly half of all cats are named Luna
The name Luna is an epidemic. Literally over half of female black cats being adopted get named Luna. Pumpkin spice, Starbucks, and Uggs bow to the basic bitch-ness of 'Luna'
How are veterinarians supposed to keep track of their clients when 80% of the female cats coming in now are named Luna???!
Blame Sailor Moon for that
Can confirm. I almost named my black cat Luna because of Sailor Moon. We went with Potion instead ☺️
So... many... Lunas...
Our stray void kitty is also a Luna, though there’s household debate whether she’s Luna Moonlight or Luna Moonlight Taylor Allison Swift.
Happens every time. That’s how we got ours. She just strolled up to my daughter outside and she’s still with us 12 years later.
"I wasn't talking to you!" ;-)
For a second there, I thought you named her 'Absolutely Not'.
A friend of mine (lived on a farm) told her mom that she wanted goats.
Her mom said the chances of them getting goats were slim to none.
My friend named the goats Slim & None.
Why every black cat in the world is Luna?
Pop-culture reference (after the black cat in Sailor Moon). Same reason every calico cat in the world who isn't named Callie is Gizmo (Gremlins).
I suspect this little criminal colluded with your daughter r/illegallysmolcats
LOL yes they most certainly did!
Are there any cats nowadays not named Luna?
What a darling little soot sprite
Luna, no way. How original
EVERYONE NAMES THEIR PET LUNA. WE NEED A NEW NAME GUYSS
Whatever Luna want...Luna get...🎶🎶🎶
Oh, wow, been a long time since I've heard anyone make that reference.
Bad news: Your daughter is Sailor Moon.
very cute but undeserving of such a generic name
Sooo cute.
God damn, she's so cuteee
She will bring you absolute Joy! Please keep tinsel, Easter grass, and such away from the sweet baby. Definitely yarn and strings as well...
Omg, I’m in love ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️
Beautiful
The V O I D heard you and wasn't about to let that go unchallenged
I bet her fur gets those beautiful rich shades of brown and dark red when she's in the sunlight.
Of course her name is Luna.
STOP NAMING ANIMALS LUNA (OR BEAR)
Sorted by controversial to see if I was alone in that opinion. So overused and unoriginal
A. You don't get to tell me how to have a good time and 2) It's only a cliché when in a group environment.
It's not like the little beasties are going to school and some poor teacher has to clarify WHICH Luna she's talking to.
who fucking cares lol
I couldn't decide if I should be the grouch, but since you're on that topic, dude... roughly 87% of women get pets and name them Luna. Its insane.
another luna….? not judging, but just saying there’s enough time to change her name if you don’t want to deal with every other cat owner you meet saying “oh my cat’s name is luna too!” she’s adorable tho 🥰
Naming an adopted animal "Luna" or "Loki" has officially replaced pumpkin spice as the absolute most basic bitch thing possible
Of course her name is Luna 🙄
Looks line onle of those cats that you see in photos from the 1800s
Haha..aaannd now you have a cat! 😁😁 It's ok. I said the same thing to my wife starting 2 cats ago. Now I have 4! Your Luna is a cutie.
What an original choice of name!
Luna is the "live love laugh" of cat names. Lol jk. She is cute tho
How foolish of you to let a pygmy panther into your home. The next 15-20 years of your life are doomed to toe bites and zoomies!
Here’s my Luna - she says hi to yours!
This is my black cat, also named Luna, when she was a kitten 🥹 twins!
It's because you put that "absolutely not" out into the universe and the void heard you.
You should have called her "absolutely not"
You have learned a valuable life lesson.
BABEE
🤣
When you see a cute kitten or puppy right in front of you, it makes it much harder to say no.
Lovely baby girl!
So, did the cat show up at your house or...?
She's magic.
That forehead omg
Oldest trick in the book. Parents say no. Kitten then just shows up needing a home. Mission complete.
Of all the pets I’ve had (cats, dogs, rats, bunnies, Guinea pigs, chinchilla, geckos, etc), cats are the easiest AND most rewarding. I suggest you adopt another so they can play together :) two are always better than one.
Luna is adorable 🥰
Oh. My. Goddddd! She is so stinking cute 😍 I bet she's gonna be long haired and gorgeous
That is just too much cuteness for me to handle. 🥹
No one expects... The adorableness of this kitty
The universe works in mysterious ways. Your daughter kept attracting the energy of "i want cat" and the universe provided the energy with a tiny ktiten that adopted you. That's amazing
My name is Luna,
I lived on the second floor,
Now I live on top of you,
Guess I think you've seen me before...
Fighting evil by moonlight
single kitten syndrome in coming.
OMG I love little Luna!
Why are kittens ALWAYS named Luna
A little soot fairy
Black kitties are so damn sweet. They love hugs and talking.
You're toast when they show up as babies. You know their mother weaned them or somehow they wandered off, they're JUST BABIES and their little meows stab at your heart, that note of desperation that just makes you want to smother them with kisses. then when they're feeling safe and comfortable they're like drunk pandas playing all around your house and up the curtains. Adorable in photographs that will soon make you forget how crazy the next few months (a few years from now, when you agree to a second kitten, and will say "OMG I FORGOT HOW MUCH WORK" but you don't remember, because all the while you know it's just a baby that needs you and OMG THAT FACE
That is the cat distribution system at work. We got our last one Freyja this way.
She's beautiful! My grandson also has a black cat named Luna. Or Lunatic when the zoomies hit.
Your daughter has a friend for life.
Cute void
Dude. That's just how it works. Cat's have been training us for 2000 yrs. W/ minimul effort they can live like royalty.
I wasn't ever gonna have a cay...then someone dumped my asshole. He decided I was his mama (he was 10 weeks old.). I wasn't gonna keep him...that was over a year ago
Congrats what a beauty. Black cats are the sweetest.
Luna - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Luna, glide down from the moon :3
Same name as my pet bat. Great choice!
Aww that looks like my little black Luna did as a kitten, I had her for almost 14 years before she passed in April 🥹 miss her so much
Cute and looking for trouble
I love black cats and now you do too.
This is the way.
(My cats have always done this.)
(I had one looked similar, except for the tuxedo. The feral look was what grabbed me!)I named him Pippin. Still miss him to this day. Even tho he lost his battle with feline leukemia at age 11 in 1987. He now runs with my Rainbow Bridge Pack.)
Cat distribution system.
Obviously, the universe disagreed with you....
I strongly recommend having two kittens and not just one. They are happier and better behaved. A lot of their energy gets focused on each other and not your ankles!
